The use of probiotic is one of alternatives to solve disease problem in aquaculture. This research aimed to examine tolerance of three lactic acid bacteria (KP1, KP2, and KP3) isolated from kakap putih (Lates calcarifer) toward pH and bile salt at different consentration. The bacterial isolates were enriched on MRS agar medium. Tolerance to pH was conducted in MRS broth at pH 3, 5 and 8. While, tolerance to bile salt were performed on MRS agar at consentration of 0, 0,1, 0,2, 0,3, and 0,4 %. Isolate KP3 at pH and incubated for 48 hours showed the highest tolerance, but the highest tolerance to bile salt was indicated by isolated KP2 at bile salt consentration of 0,3 %

Investigating the antioxidant properties and rutin content of Sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.) leaves and branches

    Get PDF
The present study focused on the antioxidant properties and rutin content of leaves and branches of Hippophae rhamnoides L. (Sea buckthorn) in Turkey. Dried leaves (leaf tea), processed (PB) and unprocessed branches (UB) of Sea buckthorn (SBT) were extracted with ethanol and prepared in forms of aqueous extract (AE). All samples were analyzed for their contents of rutin, total phenolics (TPC), total flavonoids (TFC) and total antioxidant capacity by using DPPH and CUPRAC methods. TPC of leaves from ethanolic extracts (EE) were significantly higher than UB and PB extracts. The DPPH scavenging activity of extracts ranged from 41.93 ± 3.57 and 132.43 ± 6.57 mg trolox equivalent (TE)/g, and the antioxidant capacity measured with CUPRAC method were in between 129.4 ± 18.1 and 538.5 ± 34.8 mg TE/g. Both EE and AE of leaf samples had significantly higher rutin content compared to the UB and PB samples. Taking the high antioxidant and rutin content of leaves into account and with respect to their positive health effects, consumption of SBT as a herbal tea should be investigated. Keywords: Sea buckthorn, Hippophae rhamnoides, leaves, antioxidant, phenolic profile, rutin conten

Development of Portable Air Conditioning System Using Peltier and Seebeck Effect

    Get PDF
The society bustle factor in this day and age, most people want to find equipment that is often used in everyday life in a small and light weight design. The purpose of this project is to develop portable air conditioning system without using any gas. The system used thermoelectric heat pump as main device for producing cool air known as Peltier Effect. The generating system theoretically can recycle the heat loss to produce additional electricity for other usage. The efficacy of this system tested using two types of experimental using Peltier and Seebeck Effect. Both experimental are conducted using 3 specific volumes; 1) 1000cm3; 2) 4000cm3; and 3) 9000cm3. As a result, temperature for heating and cooling systems achieve around 16 – 40 degree Celcius (oC) while the voltage generated around 12V in 30 minutes

Background: The aim of the study was to investigate the impact of nutritional status, comorbidity, and performance status on patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 112 DLBCL patients who were diagnosed at our center between 2009 and 2018. Demographic and disease characteristics and laboratory test results were recorded. Assessments were made using the age-adjusted Charlson comorbidity index (CCI-A) for comorbidity, albumin level for nutritional status, and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) score for performance status. Results: The mean age of the patients was found to be 62.63 ± 15.16 years. The ECOG score of 65 patients (69.1%) was in the range of 0-1. The mean follow-up time of the patients was determined to be 25.24 ± 25.11 months, and at the end of the follow-up period, 64 patients (57.1%) were survivors. The progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and 5-year OS rates of those with CCI-A > 4 were found to be significantly lower than those with CCI-A score ≤4 (P < 0.05). As a result of the Cox-Regression (Backward: LR method) analysis, ECOG and albumin levels were found to be independent risk factors for both OS and PFS (P < 0.05). Conclusion: This study demonstrated that CCI-A, ECOG, and nutritional status are independent prognostic markers for DLBCL patients. Initial evaluation of these patients should include all these parameters, which are easily available at the time of diagnosis

Reconfigurable multi-legs robot for pipe inspection: Design and gait movement

1132-1144This paper focuses on studies on reconfigurable multi-legs robotic system. The aim of this paper is to identify and acquire findings on how multi-legs robot can walk, climb vertical pipe and walk along the horizontal pipe after climbing. Three degrees of freedom (3DOF) multi-legs robot is designed and built to replace human involvement either at hazardous pipeline or to check on vertical and horizontal pipes. The robot system is tested to climb the vertical pipe and then move along horizontal pipe for inspection or other purposes. This can reduce the cost and percentage of human risk exposure during inspection on outer pipe. This multi-legs robot has more movement gaits compared to wheeled robot, but in terms of speed, wheeled robot possesses greater advantages. Therefore, this system design has combination of both wheel and multiple legs ensure that the to system has higher stability, more gait movement, and higher speed manoeuvrability. The gaits analysis for the system movement includes angle of the legs to move and selection of certain legs to perform a given operation, either walking, climbing or hanging. The target result is the system able to climb 500 mm height with 85 mm radius pipe. The potential applications for the system are: (i) to move along either on surface or underwater pipe and (ii) to be equipped with ultrasonic sensor to inspect the pipe.</em
