    Chiral Breit-Wigner

    Chiral symmetry and unitarization are combined into generalized Breit-Wigner expressions describing scalar resonances, which contain free parameters and allow flexible descriptions of masses, widths and pole positions.     Surface magnetization in non-doped ZnO nanostructures

    We have investigated the magnetic properties of non-doped ZnO nanostructures by using {\it ab initio} total energy calculations. Contrary to many proposals that ferromagnetism in non-doped semiconductors should be induced by intrinsic point defects, we show that ferromagnetism in nanostructured materials should be mediated by extended defects such as surfaces and grain boundaries. This kind of defects create delocalized, spin polarized states that should be able to warrant long-range magnetic interactions.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure

    Microrganismos da rizosfera sofrem influência direta de exsudados de raízes das plantas. Plantas transgênicas podem exsudar novas proteínas produzidas a partir de respostas de genes instalados nessas plantas, o que poderia gerar impactos à microbiota do solo. Este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar a dinâmica de crescimento de um microrganismo isolado em meio mínimo, a partir de solo rizosférico de algodão Bt, em dois pH e na presença e ausência de tampão carbonato (tampão de ativação). Estas respostas são essenciais para a etapa futura do trabalho de estudo da degradação da proteína Cry. O crescimento foi realizado em meio mínimo líquido mineral, a pH 7,0 e 8,0 na presença e ausência de tampão ativador da proteína, a 180 rpm, 28º C por 72 horas. Verificou-se o crescimento bacteriano, em nutriente ágar, após 48 horas de incubação a 28º C, sendo expresso em unidades formadoras de colônias por mL (UFC/mL). Observou-se que não houve diferença significativa entre os crescimentos a diferentes pH e na presença ou ausência do tampão

    Food Quality and Nutritional Profile of Students from a Public School in Brazil

    Feeding is directly related to nutritional status and alterations as obesity and malnutrition, affecting human body and increasing the risk of morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to evaluate the nutritional status of children and adolescents in a public school located in Uberaba MG Brazil by comparing macro and micronutrients on the school menu with PNAE (Brazilian government program) recommendations. A descriptive cross-sectional study including 547 individuals was carried out. Nutritional assessment was done based on anthropometric Z-score analysis. Only the food ingestion made at the school was considered, in order to verify if the meals offered by the school meet the percentage of nutrients recommended by PNAE. With regard to the nutritional status, there was a small proportion of students (0.18%) with low weight (-3 ? Z < -2). There was 15% prevalence of overweight (overweight, obesity, and severe obesity) among students. Menus composition revealed that macronutrients, fiber, and energy intake was lower than that recommended by PNAE for all age groups studied. The prevalence of a considerable number of overweight students is a warning for interventions to prevent obesity. A small percentage of students classified as low weight represents a nutritional transition trend in recent years
