    The Excitement of Multiple Noradrenergic Cell Groups in the Rat Brain Related to Hyperbaric Oxygen Seizure

    The mechanism of oxygen toxicity for central nervous system and hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) seizure has not been clarified. Noradrenergic cells in the brain may contribute to HBO seizure. In this study, we defined the activation of noradrenergic cells during HBO exposure by c-fos immunohistochemistry. Electroencephalogram electrodes were pre-implanted in all animals under general anesthesia. In HBO seizure animals, HBO was induced with 5 atm of 100% oxygen until manifestation of general tonic convulsion. HBO non-seizure animals were exposed to 25 min of HBO. Control animals were put in the chamber for 120 min without pressurization. All animals were processed for c-fos immunohistochemical staining. All animals in the HBO seizure group showed electrical discharge on EEG. In the immunohistochemistry, c-fos was increased in the A1, A2 and A6 cells of the HBO seizure group, and in the A2 and A6 cells of the HBO non-seizure group, yet was extremely low in all three cell types in the control group. These results suggest the participation of noradrenaline in HBO seizure, which can be explained by the early excitement of A1 cells due to their higher sensitivity to high blood pressure, hyperoxia, or by the post-seizure activation of all noradrenergic cells

    全身性強皮膚線維化モデルを用いたMCP-1、フラクタルカインと受容体の役割

    金沢大学附属病院TGF-βを投与すると線維化部位にMCP-1とCCR2のmRNA発現が増加した。CCR2欠損マウスのコラーゲン量はTGF-β投与では増加しなかったが,その後CTGFを投与すると野生型と同等に増加した。また,線維化部位のマクロファージ浸潤数は野生型マウスに比べ,4日目,8日目ともに著明に減少していた。TGF-βによる線維化の誘導はCCR2欠損により完全に消失したが,CTGFでは正常に誘導されたことから,CCR2/MCP-1系を使うマクロファージはTGF-βの段階で主要な役割をもっていると考えられた。一方で,TGF-βを投与すると線維化部位にfractalkine,CX3CR1のmRNA発現が増加した。CX3CR1欠損マウスのコラーゲン量はTGF-βと,CTGF投与のどちらの場合も野生型マウスと比べて約50%低下していた。また,線維化部位のマクロファージ浸潤数は,野生型マウスに比べて8日目に有意な減少がみられた。CX3CR1/fractalkine系は,TFG-βによる線維化の誘導,CTGFによる線維化の維持の両方に関与していると考えられた。CCR2とCX3CR1の一方の欠損により,他方の発現も低下していたことから,両者は独立して働くのではなく,相互に制御する作用があると思われた。以上からTGF-βによる線維化の誘導には,CCR2/MCP1系とCX3CR1/Fractalkine系の両方が関与しており,両者の働きは異なるが,どちらを阻害しても線維化の初期の段階において有益であると考えられた。研究課題/領域番号:18890073, 研究期間(年度):2006-2007出典:「全身性強皮膚線維化モデルを用いたMCP-1、フラクタルカインと受容体の役割」研究成果報告書 課題番号18890073(KAKEN:科学研究費助成事業データベース(国立情報学研究所))(https://kaken.nii.ac.jp/grant/KAKENHI-PROJECT-18890073/)を加工して作

    Effects of gender and body weight on fibroblast growth factor 23 responsiveness to estimated dietary phosphorus

    Fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) is a molecule involved in regulating phosphorus homeostasis. Although some studies indicated an association between serum FGF23 levels and sex, the association has not been fully investigated. The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether sex could influence FGF23 responsiveness to dietary phosphorus intake in healthy individuals. Thirty two healthy subjects between 21 and 28 years were recruited for this study. Subjects performed 24-hour urine collection and blood samples were collected. We estimated phosphorus intake (UC-P) from the urine collection (UC), and evaluated any association between UC-P and serum FGF23 levels. Subsequently, we compared serum FGF23 levels between males and females. Positive correlation was observed between UC-P and serum FGF23 levels. Serum FGF23 levels were significantly higher in males than in females. Serum FGF23 levels/UC-P was significantly higher in females than in males. There was no significant difference in serum FGF23 levels/UC-P/BW between the male and female groups. Our results indicate that there was no gender difference between FGF23 responsiveness to phosphorus intake per body weight

    Epithelioid sarcoma with muscle metastasis detected by positron emission tomography

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Epithelioid sarcoma is an uncommon high-grade sarcoma, mostly involving the extremities.</p> <p>Case presentation</p> <p>A 33-year-old man was referred to our institute with a diagnosis of Volkmann's contracture with the symptom of flexion contracture of the fingers associated with swelling in his left forearm. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed abnormal signal intensity, comprising iso-signal intensity on T1- and high-signal intensity on T2-weighted images surrounding the flexor tendons in the forearm. Diagnosis of epithelioid sarcoma was made by open biopsy, and amputation at the upper arm was then undertaken. [<sup>18</sup>F]-2-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose-positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) detected multiple lesions with an increased uptake in the right neck, the bilateral upper arms and the right thigh, as well as in the left axillary lymph nodes, with maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) ranging from 2.0 to 5.5 g/ml. Magnetic resonance imaging confirmed that there was a lesion within the right thigh muscle which was suggestive of metastasis, even though the lesion was occult clinically.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Increased uptake on FDG-PET might be representative of epithelioid sarcoma, and for this reason FDG-PET may be useful for detecting metastasis. Muscle metastasis is not well documented in epithelioid sarcoma. Accordingly, the frequency of muscle metastasis, including occult metastasis, needs to be further analyzed.</p

    Allergic Reactions to Local Anesthetics in Dental Patients: Analysis of Intracutaneous and Challenge Tests

    Some dental patients have histories of adverse reactions to local anesthesia. The aim of the present study was to investigate the frequency of allergy to local anesthetics of dental patients who had histories of adverse reactions to local anesthesia based on the results of allergy tests in our institute over a period of 5 years. We investigated the past medical records of dental patients retrospectively, and twenty patients were studied. Three of the 20 showed a positive or false-positive reaction in the intracutaneous test, and one patient showed a false-positive reaction in the challenge test. Our results suggest that the frequency of allergy to local anesthetics is low even if patients have histories of adverse reactions to local anesthesia. However, allergy tests of local anesthetics should be performed in patients in whom it is uncertain whether they are allergic
