The databases of the inventory of cultural heritage in France, which are often formatted according to the logic of scientific expertise of tangible heritage, do little to integrate the discourse logics of the “popular” expertise generated by intangible heritage. However, the open science movement, notably through open source software, open data and citizen science, opens up perspectives for the participatory writing of cultural heritage. With the example of the database of the Regional Inventory Service of Reunion Island, we will see how the logic of open science leads interdisciplinary communities to question the knowledge modelling of the cultural heritage of a post-colonial French society, in order to overcome the conflicts involved in writing the memory of an Indiaoceanic territory

This article develops a discursive analysis of the naming process of the “Islamic scarf affair” through the literature of scientific journals in Social and Human Science (SHS). By means of a semiotic approach centered on the argumentative, rhetorical and sociopolitical dimensions of  naming processes, this study examines socio-discursive and metalinguistic disputes related to possible namings and legitimated meanings of the public debate on the veil. By setting the scientific literature about the “Islamic scarf affair” at the center of our research, our analysis procedure consists in highlighting not only the namings studied by researchers, but also the argumentative dimension of their own analysis. We treat the arena of scientific reviews as a discursive space of polemical interactions in which SHS researchers propose, refute and negotiate the legitimate  namings of this public debate.

This article focuses on the transnational mediatic war between the Portuguese TV channel Televisão Independente (TVI), national audience leader, and the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (IURD), the most important Brazilian neo-Pentecostal evangelical institution in Portugal. By taking the videos produced by these institutions as our object of study, we develop a dialectical analysis of words and images that have configured this audio-visual war of information. More precisely, we study the journalistic forms and logics of IURD’s crisis communication, which raises questions about the manipulation of the concept of fake news and conspiracy/complot theories

International audienceThis essay proposes to study veiled women's bodies taken, in the French Republic, as a space for political and symbolical actions. From a social semiotic approach, focusing the social and symbolical dimension of the speech, this work goes through the analysis of discourses about the veil taken by the Muslim women in France, inscribed in media debates of the headscarf affair (1989-2004) and the integral veil affair (2009-2010), according they were (re)presented by Le Parisien, Le Figaro and LibĂ©ration newspapers. Our aim is to make intelligible the wearing of this religious sign as a practice of feminine, social and cultural emancipation reconfiguring the relation between the private and public space, between religion and modernity, between transparence and opacity regimes. It is important for us to understand the way such bodies in minority state are claimed as militants and emancipated bodies, therefore, political and overall utopian.
