Probing Unified Origin of Dark Matter and Baryon Asymmetry at PAMELA/Fermi
We propose an unified model of dark matter and baryon asymmetry in a
lepto-philic world above the electroweak scale. We provide an example where the
inflaton decay products subsequently generate a lepton asymmetry and a dark
matter abundance with an unique coupling in the early universe, while the
present day decay of the dark matter through the same coupling gives rise the
observed cosmic ray anomalies at PAMELA and Fermi Large Area Telescope.Comment: 6 pages (minor revision), revtex, 3 figure
Towards an efficient computational mining approach to identify EST-SSR markers
Microsatellites are the markers of choice due to their high abundance reproducibility, degree of polymorphism and co-dominant
nature. These are mainly used for studying the genetic variability in different species and Marker assisted selection. Expressed
Sequence Tags (ESTs) serve as the main resource for Simple Sequence Repeats (SSRs). The computational approach for detecting
SSRs and developing SSR markers from EST-SSRs is preferred over the conventional methods as it reduces time and cost to a great
extent. The available EST sequence databases, various web interfaces and standalone tools provide the platform for an easy
analysis of the EST sequences leading to the development of potential EST-SSR Markers. This paper is an overview of in silico
approach to develop SSR Markers from the EST sequence using some of the most efficient tools that are available freely for
academic purpose
Adverse events related to blood transfusion
The acute blood transfusion reactions are responsible for causing most serious adverse events. Awareness about various clinical features of acute and delayed transfusion reactions with an ability to assess the serious reactions on time can lead to a better prognosis. Evidence-based medicine has changed today′ s scenario of clinical practice to decrease adverse transfusion reactions. New evidence-based algorithms of transfusion and improved haemovigilance lead to avoidance of unnecessary transfusions perioperatively. The recognition of adverse events under anaesthesia is always challenging. The unnecessary blood transfusions can be avoided with better blood conservation techniques during surgery and with anaesthesia techniques that reduce blood loss. Better and newer blood screening methods have decreased the infectious complications to almost negligible levels. With universal leukoreduction of red blood cells (RBCs), selection of potential donors such as use of male donors only plasma and restriction of RBC storage, most of the non-infectious complications can be avoided
Inflation, baryogenesis and gravitino dark matter at ultra low reheat temperatures.
It is quite possible that the reheat temperature of the Universe is extremely low close to the scale of big bang nucleosynthesis, i.e. TR∼1–10 MeV. At such low reheat temperatures generating matter, antimatter asymmetry and synthesizing dark matter particles are challenging issues which need to be addressed within a framework of beyond the standard model physics. In this paper we point out that a successful cosmology can emerge naturally provided the R-parity violating interactions are responsible for the excess in baryons over antibaryons and at the same time they can explain the longevity of dark matter with the right abundance
Life cycle costing of MRI machine at a tertiary care teaching hospital
Background: Life cycle costing (LCC) is an excellent decision-making tool that can assist a hospital administrator in seeking more cost-effective decisions to select the best course of action. LCC can be defined as “an economic assessment of competing design alternatives, considering all significant costs of ownership over the economic life of each alternative, expressed in equivalent rupees. Aim: To determine the LCC of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine at a tertiary care teaching hospital. Settings and Design: A descriptive, observational study in MRI scan center of a tertiary care teaching hospital. Materials and Methods: LCC analysis (LCCA) was performed to ensure total cost visibility for the entire life span of the MRI scan equipment, which was assumed to be 10 years. Statistical Analysis: Data were analyzed using MS Excel. Results and Conclusions: The total cost per MRI scan was calculated to be Rs. 2944. It was estimated that the MRI scan center would reach the break-even point by the end of the third year
Genetic divergence study in advanced breeding lines of mungbean in tarai region
The present investigation was conducted with an objective to study genetic diversity available in 35 advanced breeding lines of mungbean for the identification of genetically diverse and agronomical superior breeding lines. Different morphological and economic traits like plant height, pods per plant, hundred seed weight, biological yield, seed yield and harvest index exhibited considerable genetic variability. Metroglyph analysis distributed mungbean genotypes into 14 and 12 clusters in kharif, 2011 and kharif, 2012, respectively. Cluster I evolved as a major cluster in kharif, 2011 and II as a largest cluster in kharif, 2012 with 19 genotypes each. Nodule volume contributed maximum towards genetic divergence 2011, whereas Nitrogen fixation in 2012. These characters were considered to be most important for the genetic diversity. Distribution of genotypes into different clusters, suggested the presence of substantial genetic divergence among the germplasm. The crosses between diverse parents are generally the most responsive for genetic improvement in mungbean
Comparison of levosimendan and nitroglycerine in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery
Background: Levosimendan a calcium ion sensitizer improves both systolic and diastolic functions. This novel lusitropic drug has predictable antiischemic properties which are mediated via the opening of mitochondrial adenosine triphosphate-sensitive potassium channels. This action of levosimendan is beneficial in cardiac surgical patients as it improves myocardial contractility, decreases systemic vascular resistance (SVR), and increases cardiac index (CI) and is thought to be cardioprotective. We decided to study whether levosimendan has any impact on the outcomes such as the duration of ventilation, the length of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) stay, and the hospital stay when compared with the nitroglycerine (NTG), which is the current standard of care at our center. Materials and Methods: Forty-seven patients undergoing elective coronary artery bypass surgery were randomly assigned to two groups receiving either levosimendan or NTG. The medications were started before starting surgery and continued until 24 h in the postoperative period. Baseline hemodynamic parameters were evaluated before beginning of the operation and then postoperatively at 3 different time intervals. N-terminal fragment of pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels were also measured in both groups. Results: In comparison to the NTG group, the duration of ventilation and length of ICU stay were significantly less in levosimendan group (P < 0.05, P = 0.02). NT-proBNP level analysis showed a slow rising pattern in both groups and a statistically significant rise in the levels was observed in NTG group (P = 0.03, P = 0.02) in postoperative period when compared to levosimendan group of patients. Conclusion: Levosimendan treatment in patients undergoing surgical revascularization resulted in improved CI, decreased SVR and lower heart rate. And, thereby the duration of ventilation and length of ICU stay were significantly less in this group of patients when compared with NTG group
