Efficient Computation of CMB anisotropies in closed FRW models

    Get PDF
We implement the efficient line of sight method to calculate the anisotropy and polarization of the cosmic microwave background for scalar and tensor modes in almost-Friedmann-Robertson-Walker models with positive spatial curvature. We present new results for the polarization power spectra in such models.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure. Corrected/updated references. Accepted by ApJ. P Wave Meson Spectrum in a Relativistic Model with Instanton Induced Interaction

On the basis of the phenomenological relativistic harmonic models for quarks we have obtained the masses of P wave mesons. The full Hamiltonian used in the investigation has Lorentz scalar + vector confinement potential, along with one gluon exchange potential (OGEP) and the instanton-induced quark-antiquark interaction (III). A good agreement is obtained with the experimental masses. The respective role of III and OGEP for the determination of the meson masses is discussed.Comment: Corrected typo

Maternal and fetal outcome of febrile morbidity in pregnancy at tertiary care level

Background: Fever in pregnancy is a common clinical problem worldwide. Effects of hyperthermia depends on the extent and duration of temperature elevation, timing of exposure in pregnancy and possibly on maternal nutritional status, comorbidities, medications, socio-economic background and several other factors. The exposure of maternal temperature has been reported to lead to cell disruptions, vascular disturbance and placental infarction which can lead to the risk of structural and functional defects in progeny. The underlying maternal cytokine polymorphism is strongly associated with both intrapartum fever and neonatal outcome. Hence there is a need to detect the various life-threatening medical complications of febrile morbidity leading to severe maternal morbidity and its impact on fetal outcome. Aim of study were to study the etiology of fever in pregnancy during the study period and to know the effect of fever on both the mother and the fetus. Methods: A prospective observational study. Results: Out of the 60 cases of fever in pregnancy, most common cause of fever was urinary tract infection (30%), followed by dengue fever (25%) and upper respiratory tract infection (23.3%). Fever was associated with complications as such PROM, PPROM, preterm labour, PPH, thrombocytopenia, anemia and abortions. Fetal outcome were preterm birth (25%), low birth weight (36%), neonatal sepsis (20%) and perinatal death (13.8%). Conclusions: Febrile morbidity in pregnancy leads to numerous maternal and fetal complications can occur due to fever in pregnancy from various causes. The most common cause of fever was UTI followed by dengue fever. The maternal and fetal complications can be avoidable if the cause for the fever is diagnosed and treated early

The present marine fish production in India is ahout 1.5 million tonnes of which the lion's share is from the nearshore waters, wi tbin less than 50 m depth and probably from an area of about 100,000 sq km which is only 25% of the area of the continental shelf and 5% that of the economic zone

Plans for a 10-m Submillimeter-wave Telescope at the South Pole

    Get PDF
A 10 meter diameter submillimeter-wave telescope has been proposed for the NSF Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. Current evidence indicates that the South Pole is the best submillimeter-wave telescope site among all existing or proposed ground-based observatories. Proposed scientific programs place stringent requirements on the optical quality of the telescope design. In particular, reduction of the thermal background and offsets requires an off-axis, unblocked aperture, and the large field of view needed for survey observations requires shaped optics. This mix of design elements is well-suited for large scale (square degree) mapping of line and continuum radiation from submillimeter-wave sources at moderate spatial resolutions (4 to 60 arcsecond beam size) and high sensitivity (milliJansky flux density levels). the telescope will make arcminute angular scale, high frequency Cosmic Microwave Background measurements from the best possible ground-based site, using an aperture which is larger than is currently possible on orbital or airborne platforms. Effective use of this telescope will require development of large (1000 element) arrays of submillimeter detectors which are background-limited when illuminated by antenna temperatures near 50 K.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figure

A framework for the systematic implementation of Green-Lean and sustainability in SMEs

    Get PDF
Evidence suggests that smaller organisations find the implementation of combined operations- and environmental Sustainability improvement initiatives such as Green-Lean and Sustainability (GLS) challenging. This paper, therefore, develops a framework for the systematic implementation of Green-Lean and Sustainability in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to achieve long-term improvement of environmental, social and economic processes and performance. A literature assessment of theories, frameworks, and concepts was employed in the study to better comprehend the difficulties confronting the modern business world. In addition, the research employed expert perspectives from the lean, green-lean, and sustainability fields to propose, develop, test, and validate a framework for addressing business concerns. The research uncovers considerable implementation problems, such as employee motivation and integration, responsibilities, and measurements. It also underlines the success factors for the implementation process, such as management, firm- goals and strategy, reviews and audits, vision, and guidance by lean, green and sustainability frameworks. The novelty in this research lies in the approach where Green-Lean and Sustainability are combined and applied in an SME context. The presented framework offers the potential to be implemented in SMEs that operate in different sectors and contexts and are affected by different environmental and social considerations
