The colour of the narrow line Sy1-blazar 0324+3410
Aims. We investigate the properties of the host galaxy of the blazar
J0324+3410 (B2 0321+33) by the analysis of B and R images obtained with the NOT
under good photometric conditions. Methods: The galaxy was studied using
different methods: Sersic model fitting, unsharp-masked images, B-R image and
B-R profile analysis. Results: The images show that the host galaxy has a
ring-like morphology. The B-R colour image reveals two bluish zones: one that
coincides with the nuclear region, interpreted as the signature of emission
related to the active nucleus, the other zone is extended and is located in the
host ring-structure. We discuss the hypothesis that the later is thermal
emission from a burst of star formation triggered by an interacting/merging
process
Pauli-Limited Superconductivity with Classical Magnetic Fluctuations
We examine the effect of classical magnetic fluctuations on the phase diagram
of paramagneticallylimited two-dimensional superconductors under a Zeeman
magnetic field. We derive the free energy expansion in powers of the
superconducting order parameter and analyze the character of the
normalsuperconducting transition. While the transition is of the second order
for all temperatures in the absence of magnetic fluctuations, we find that
proximity to magnetism drives both the transition into the uniform state and
that into the modulated (Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov, FFLO) state to first
order at intermediate temperatures. We compute the thermodynamic signatures of
the normal-superconducting transition along the upper critical field.Comment: 16 pages, 9 figure
Liva 1 – The First Medieval Sámi Site with Rectangular Hearths in Murmansk Oblast (Russia)
In 2017–2018, the Kola Archaeological Expedition of the Institute of the History of Material Culture (IHMC) RAS carried out excavations at the medieval site of Liva 1 (a hearth-row site)in the Kovdor District of Murmansk Oblast. Sites of this type are fairly well studied in the western part of Sapmi – the area inhabited by the Sámi – but until now they have not beenknown in Russia. The site was found by local residents in 2010. Some of the structures there were destroyed or damaged when searching for artefacts with a metal detector. A total ofnine archaeological structures have been discovered (7 rectangular stone hearths, 1 mound, 1 large pit). Four hearths were excavated. They are of rectangular shape, varying in size from 2.0 x 1.15 to 2.5 x 1.7 metres. The fireplaces are lined with large stone blocks in one course, and the central part is filled with small stones in 2–3 layers. Animal bones, occasionallyforming concentrations, were found near the hearths. Throughout the area of the settlement, numerous iron objects (tools or their fragments) and bronzes were collected includingornaments made in manufacturing centres of Old Rus’, Scandinavia and the Baltic countries. The settlement is dated with radiocarbon analysis and the typology of the ornaments to the11th – 14th centuries
On the Privacy Practices of Just Plain Sites
In addition to visiting high profile sites such as Facebook and Google, web
users often visit more modest sites, such as those operated by bloggers, or by
local organizations such as schools. Such sites, which we call "Just Plain
Sites" (JPSs) are likely to inadvertently represent greater privacy risks than
high profile sites by virtue of being unable to afford privacy expertise. To
assess the prevalence of the privacy risks to which JPSs may inadvertently be
exposing their visitors, we analyzed a number of easily observed privacy
practices of such sites. We found that many JPSs collect a great deal of
information from their visitors, share a great deal of information about their
visitors with third parties, permit a great deal of tracking of their visitors,
and use deprecated or unsafe security practices. Our goal in this work is not
to scold JPS operators, but to raise awareness of these facts among both JPS
operators and visitors, possibly encouraging the operators of such sites to
take greater care in their implementations, and visitors to take greater care
in how, when, and what they share.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures, 6 tables, 5 authors, and a partridge in a pear

Homotopy Relations for Topological VOA
We consider a parameter-dependent version of the homotopy associative part of
the Lian-Zuckerman homotopy algebra and provide the interpretation of
multilinear operations of this algebra in terms of integrals over certain
polytopes. We explicitly prove the pentagon relation up to homotopy and propose
a construction of higher operations.Comment: 15 pages, 1 figure, typos correcte
Imaginary chemical potential and finite fermion density on the lattice
Standard lattice fermion algorithms run into the well-known sign problem at
real chemical potential. In this paper we investigate the possibility of using
imaginary chemical potential, and argue that it has advantages over other
methods, particularly for probing the physics at finite temperature as well as
density. As a feasibility study, we present numerical results for the partition
function of the two-dimensional Hubbard model with imaginary chemical
potential.
We also note that systems with a net imbalance of isospin may be simulated
using a real chemical potential that couples to I_3 without suffering from the
sign problem.Comment: 9 pages, LaTe
Report on the radiometric analysis of the Ghar Dalam fossil specimens prepared for the Ghar Dalam Museum
Uranium is a radioactive element
emitting mainly alpha rays, but its daughter
elements Th and Ra are gamma ray
emitters. A high resolution gamma ray
spectrometry system can be used to determine
gamma-emitting radionuclides with energies
ranging from 1 keV to 10 MeV depending on
the type of detector in a large variety of sample
matrices. The simultaneous detection of
several gamma radionuclide emitters in the
sample material was carried out with a coaxial
germanium detector of high resolution
connected to a multichannel analyser.
Automatic processing of the collected spectral
data was controlled by a computer system with
selected software. Sources of error in the
technique may be caused by improper spectral
identities, changes in background, errors in
calibration and/or geometry, and lack of
homogeneity in samples. Since the samples
tested were not in a standardised geometry,
some variation in the readings could be
expected due to the difference in sample
homogeneity. The results obtained for the
various samples were standardised as a ratio
of 40K, on the assumption that the high
solubility of potassium salts would result in a
steady equilibrium in all samples.
Several fossil specimens kept in the Ghar
Dalam Museum were borrowed by courtesy of
Dr. G. Zammit Maempel. The specimens had
unfortunately no information as to the level
they were excavated from, and their
providence could not be reliably confirmed.peer-reviewe
