Impact of Finger Rings on the Presence of Bacteria on Healthcare Providers\u27 Hands

    Get PDF
Despite some evidence that suggest that finger ring use is associated with higher bacterial colonization, healthcare providers continue to wear finger rings in a healthcare setting. The aim of this systematic review was to synthesize the evidence to date regarding whether finger ring use increases bacterial colonization of healthcare providers\u27 hands. Articles that studied the association finger ring use with hand hygiene and bacterial colonization were searched using PubMed, Google Scholar, and Georgia State University\u27s online library systems. The overall results of this review suggest that finger ring use does increase the bacterial colonization on the hands of HCPs but not with significant difference when compared to no finger ring use; therefore, further research needs to be conducted to decide whether finger rings should be used in a healthcare setting or not

Introduction: The Future of Global Health Governance

CONFERENCE: The Future of Global Health Governance Hosted by the Dean Rusk International Law Center and the Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law on January 25, 2021 in Athens, Georgia When we began developing this topic last winter and early spring, the global pandemic in which we still find ourselves deeply entrenched, a year later, was just emerging. For many in the United States, including our former President, the threat seemed distant, even hypothetical.\u27 Few imagined the devastating loss of life, health, economic security, home, family, companionship, and normal ways of life that we would come to experience over the next year. As we near the one-year anniversary of the first lockdown orders in the United States, three broad themes emerge from the COVID-19 landscape that inform the topic of this symposium on The Future of Global Health Governance. First, comparison of the public health infrastructure in the United States to other developed countries. Second, comparison of the social safety nets and other measures that the United States took to alleviate the effects of the virus to the rest of the world. Finally, the impacts of partisan polarization and distrust of government and science on pandemic response and management

Aims: A prospective cross-sectional survey to evaluate the psychosocial impact of the presence of an anterior open bite in adults. To evaluate whether other factors such as gender, age, ethnicity and depth of open bite have an influence on the oral health related quality of life (OHRQoL). Method: A total of 71 participants (39 female and 32 male) with an anterior open bite aged from 18-25 years were recruited from Birmingham Dental Hospital and the University Hospitals North Midlands, United Kingdom. The control group consisted of 68 participants (35 female and 33 male) and aged 23-25.5 years. All participants completed an Oral Health Impact Profile – 49 (OHIP-49) Questionnaire which was used as the OHRQoL measurement tool. Results: Those with an anterior open bite had a consistently higher impact profile score in all seven domains of the OHIP-49 compared to the control group showing a negative impact on the OHRQoL. These differences were statistically significant (p<0.001) for both overall Impact Profile score and each of the seven domains. Gender did influence the OHIP-49 scores with females scoring consistently higher than males, which was found to be statistically significant in all of the domains of the OHIP-49 apart from physical disability. The impact on the OHRQoL was found to be independent of ethnicity, depth of anterior open bite and age. Conclusions: The presence of an anterior open bite can negatively effect the psychosocial well being of adults when compared to a control group. This study furthers our understanding of adult patients with an anterior open bite and supports the need for treatment and further resources for this group

Reinforcement Learning for Predicting the US GDP Output Gap

If a bank can successfully predict the economic fundamentals of the country they operate in, they have a significant advantage when determining interest rate risk against their competitors. This in turn is advantageous when determining investment risk against their competitors. This paper explores using Reinforcement Learning (RL) as a method for predicting The United States\u27 Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on a quarterly basis. Various RL algorithms are compared based on how accurately they predict the GDP output gap for the following quarter. This research was unable to accurately predict the GDP output gap on a quarterly basis, but further research could be done by including additional features and reward functions. Limitations for these findings are likely due to the small quantity of data on economics in the United States

Heart Beat Monitoring And Wireless Data Logging Using Arm Cortex A8

Increasing importance in monitoring and logging the real time patient’s related data has led to the development of a new wireless data acquisition system. The basic concept presented in this paper is that we have made one type of wireless data logger[1] system using arm platform which is logging the real time heartbeat[2] data in one text file it is give the heartbeat rate with respect to time. Here we use UDOO[8] development board, UDOO is a single-board computer development platform that merges a dual or quad core ARM Free scale Cortex-A9 i.MX.6 CPU and an Arduino[4] compatible board embedded with a dedicated ARM Atmel SAM3X8E CPU. Physical data is converted in to the electrical form using Arduino UNO R3 and after processing these data it will be transmitted by the RFM. Same way at receiver side one RFM device is required to receive the data which was transmitted by the transmitter. Once the data is received, these data will be given to UDOO board. In UDOO board the data is processed and the data will be monitored on LCD or DVI Monitor

Technology has evolved over the years and revolutionized our lives that have enabled the evolution of fields such as monitoring systems. This paper describes the development of a wireless heartbeat and monitoring system based on a Arduino at a reasonable cost with great effect. This paper describes a technique of measuring the heart rate through a fingertip and Arduino. Most monitoring system that are used today is a system must be designed so that patient can be monitored remotely in real time. The paper consists of sensors which measures heartbeat of a patient which is controlled by the Arduino. Both the readings are displayed in Application. The heartbeat sensor counts the heartbeat for specific interval of time and estimates Beats per Minute. Finally, the data are displayed in the Application at the receiving end
