Financial market development, global financial crisis and economic growth : evidence from developing nations

Emerging and frontier markets in Africa have witnessed various economic and financial reforms aimed at integrating the domestic markets into the global financial market to attract investment. Whether these reforms promote high economic growth remains inconclusive. The paper applies the pooled mean group estimation technique to empirically re-investigate the link between financial market development, global financial crisis, and economic growth in selected African economies. The results strongly support our hypotheses that stock market and banking sector development promotes economic growth in the selected countries. Moreover, financial crisis reduce the positive effects of both the stock market and banking sector developments on economic growth. The study suggests that both the banking sector and stock market are important to deliver the long-run economic growth that the African region desired. International audienceIdentification and knowledge sharing on crop weeds of the Western Indian Ocean is now facilitated by a set of Web 2.0 tools developed as part of the European project Wikwio. These tools can be used in different ways, at the office connected to the Internet or not, or in the field, and with different kind of devices (mobile phone, tablet, PC). Thus, it allows the collection and sharing of observations of weeds whether they are identified or not; it helps in the plant identification, even for non-specialised users, and facilitates the synthesis and dissemination of knowledge on more than 400 species; it also provides control methods for different cropping systems in the region. A network of over 500 stakeholders, including farmers, extension people, distributors, agronomists, weed scientists, teachers, students, has built up around this collaborative portal, but effective contributors are still in need.L'identification et le partage de connaissances ou de questionnements sur les adventices des cultures de l'Ouest de l'Océan Indien est maintenant facilité par l’ensemble d'outils Web 2.0 développé le projet Européen Wikwio.
