INTEGRATING DEVOPS INTO NAVY COMBAT SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT
This thesis seeks to answer three questions concerning the Navy's adoption of DevOps and its practices. Those questions are: What is DevOps in a naval context? What stands in the way of that adoption? What are some ways that the Navy can overcome those obstacles? By drawing upon both an extensive review of literature on the topic, as well as interviews with subject-matter experts, this work provides a comprehensive understanding of the breadth and complexity of the change needed in order for the Navy to adopt a culture of DevOps as well as its attendant practices. Improving the Convergence of an Iterative Algorithm Proposed By Waxman
In the iterative algorithm recently proposed by Waxman for solving eigenvalue
problems, we point out that the convergence rate may be improved. For many
non-singular symmetric potentials which vanish asymptotically, a simple
analytical relationship between the coupling constant of the potential and the
ground state eigenvalue is obtained which can be used to make the algorithm
more efficient
A Modified Version of the Waxman Algorithm
The iterative algorithm recently proposed by Waxman for solving eigenvalue
problems, which relies on the method of moments, has been modified to improve
its convergence considerably without sacrificing its benefits or elegance. The
suggested modification is based on methods to calculate low-lying eigenpairs of
large bounded hermitian operators or matrices
Elastic constants of 3-, 4- and 6-connected chiral and anti-chiral honeycombs subject to uniaxial in-plane loading
Finite Element models are developed for the in-plane linear elastic constants of a family of honeycombs comprising arrays of cylinders connected by ligaments. Honeycombs having cylinders with 3, 4 and 6 ligaments attached to them are considered, with two possible configurations explored for each of the 3- (trichiral and anti-trichiral) and 4- (tetrachiral and anti-tetrachiral) connected systems. Honeycombs for each configuration have been manufactured using rapid prototyping and subsequently characterised for mechanical properties through in-plane uniaxial loading to verify the models. An interesting consequence of the family of 'chiral' honeycombs presented here is the ability to produce negative Poisson's ratio (auxetic) response. The deformation mechanisms responsible for auxetic functionality in such honeycombs are discussed
Statistical Computations with AstroGrid and the Grid
We outline our first steps towards marrying two new and emerging
technologies; the Virtual Observatory (e.g, AstroGrid) and the computational
grid. We discuss the construction of VOTechBroker, which is a modular software
tool designed to abstract the tasks of submission and management of a large
number of computational jobs to a distributed computer system. The broker will
also interact with the AstroGrid workflow and MySpace environments. We present
our planned usage of the VOTechBroker in computing a huge number of n-point
correlation functions from the SDSS, as well as fitting over a million CMBfast
