Was geschieht bei Systemaufstellungen?

Perceived competence and credit access of SMEs: can trust change the rules of the game?
Banks play an essential role in financing firms and especially small and medium en-terprises (SMEs). The process used by banks to decide whether and how much to lend is complex and banks rely on different lending techniques. Relationship lending, by leveraging a variety of private information gathered through contact with the firm, its owner, and the local community, has a peculiar role and can benefit SMEs by providing them with easier access to credit. No previous research focuses specifically on the perceived competence of the entrepreneur or the owner/manager of the firm as well as on competence as a substitute of trust. The present paper tries to fill this gap.
The research is based on a panel of 535 entrepreneurial SMEs which operate in the widely studied and economically successful North East of Italy. The data were collected by administering a survey to bank managers of local community banks and of two national banks. The regressions show that competence is positively related to overall credit gained and negatively related to interest rate. In addition, in low trusted SMEs, credit gained is positively related to competence while the interest rate is negatively linked to competence. In highly trusted firms, these relationships are not significant.
Our findings support the point that competence is an important factor irrespective of the quality of the firm and that it is a substitute for trust in low-trusted SMEs. The findings have two major implications: banks should develop tools that are capable to catch the competence of the entrepreneurs irrespective of the performance of the firm depicted in the firms' data; the entrepreneurs need to effectively communicate their competences to the relevant stakeholders such as the bank managers. Thus, perceived competence can play an important role during economic downturns when the performance of the firm is affected by hostile eco-nomic environment
The Effects of Sex Role Stereotype Endorsement and Work-Family Conflict on Emerging Adult Aspirations
Workplace and household inequality remain prevalent in the United States and sex role (e.g. breadwinner and caregiver) stereotypes affect the roles that individuals seek out. This research used a mixed-methods approach to investigate the effects of sex role stereotypes and expected work-family conflict on the work and family aspirations of emerging adults. A racially diverse sample wrote freely about their future selves for ten minutes then completed measures to evaluate their sex-role stereotype endorsement, expected work-family conflict, and personal preferences for career and family roles. Results indicate that endorsement of stereotypes predicts increased expectations of work-family conflict, for both men and women, possibly because sex-role stereotypes do not allow for a harmonious unification of both roles. Multiple mediator analyses revealed complex relationships, including findings that time-based and stress-based work-family conflict partially explain the link between stereotype endorsement and value of familial and occupational roles. The narratives produced by participants demonstrate how caregiver and breadwinner stereotypes are conceptualized by individuals and integrated into their descriptions of their future lives. The narratives suggest that women who reject sex role stereotypes may also reject traditional family compositions and may not feel that assuming traditional roles and behaving in nurturing, “feminine” ways are mutually exclusive
Extracting Firm Information from Administrative Records: The ASSD Firm Panel
This paper demonstrates how firm information can be extracted from administrative social security records. We use the Austrian Social Security Database (ASSD) and derive firms from employer identifiers in the universe of private sector workers. To correctly pin down entry end exits we use a worker flow approach which follows clusters of workers as they move across administrative entities. This procedure enables us to define different types of entry and exit such as start-ups, spinoffs, closures, or take-overs. We show that our firm definition results in a demography which is comparable to official statistics of firm registers. The resulting database, covering the period of 1976 to 2006, is a valuable resource for future research on industry evolution in Austria.administrative data, definition of firms, entry and exit types, worker flows
Expression of plasma prekallikrein mRNA in human nonhepatic tissues and cell lineages suggests special local functions of the enzyme
At present it is generally accepted that plasma prekallikrein (PPK) is synthesized in the liver and secreted into the bloodstream. Surprisingly, it has recently been shown that PPK mRNA is present also in RNA from the kidney, adrenal gland and placenta. In spite of its novelty and possible important physiological implications this finding has been neglected. Here we report that PPK mRNA is expressed also in the human brain, heart, lung, trachea, endothelial cells and leukocytes as well as in a variety of fibroblast and epithelial cell lines. Expression of PPK mRNA in fibroblasts, endothelial cells and leukocytes suggests that PPK mRNA detected in RNA preparations from whole tissue may originate solely from these ubiquitously occurring cells. However, PPK mRNA expression in various epithelial cell lines demonstrates that tissue-specific cells also transcribe the PPK gene. The presence of PPK mRNA in nonhepatic tissues and cells indicates that they have the capacity to synthesize the protein. The physiological role of PPK synthesized in extrahepatic tissue is unknown. It may participate in local actions within tissues as well as contributing to the PPK pool in blood plasma. Cultured cells will provide a valuable model for exploring the physiological significance of extrahepatic PPK expression
Corporate governance regulation, legal origin and small business access to credit: a cross-european comparison
In this cross-European study, we investigate the impact of two specific corporate governance
mechanisms (shareholder rights and regulations on related-party transactions) on firms’
decision to apply for credit and the banks’ lending decision. We argue that this impact is
contingent upon the legal origin that shapes the regulatory institutional setting in which the
corporate governance mechanisms are embedded. We perform a cross-European comparison
based on 45,596 firm-level observations from 13 countries. Logit regression reveals that
corporate governance does not directly influence the banks' lending decision or the firms'
decision to apply for credit. Rather, the impact of corporate governance on firms’ credit
access unfolds through regulatory institutional contexts that are shaped only by specific legal
origins. Our findings help to explain why firms in different countries are financed so
differently by highlighting the relevance of the embeddedness of corporate governance
mechanisms in regulatory institutional settings. For research, our findings call for more multi-
level work. For business practice, our findings imply that a well-designed governance regime
regarding shareholder protection can foster firms’ access to bank finance, and thus innovation
and economic growth. For legislators, we highlight the importance of ensuring a fit between
corporate governance mechanisms and the specifics of the national regulatory environment
The project has been designed to investigate potential effects of systemic constellations in agricultural contexts. The project invited farmers and rural extension workers to experiment with systemic constellations during three workshops. Specific situations have been set up, such as conversions to organic agriculture, farm transfer from generation to generation (including gender issues), risky investments, farm “survival” and family crises. The constellations proved to contribute to rapid and deep insights. Hidden potentials, which may lead to new solutions, became evident.
After the constellations, the participants showed stronger self-esteem, higher decision-making power, enhanced creativity and activity. Several weeks after the workshops, selected participants reported on tangible impacts on their farms. Constellations provide an opportunity for a felt experience of systemic relations and their effective potentials. This may contribute in strengthening organic farming and ecological agriculture in general. New projects and new strategic alliances will emerge. Essential conditions for positive results are the participants’ disposition to confront themselves with deeper experiences, and the professional competence of the guides
