Hybrid Method for Numerical Implementation of Segmented Power Cable Conductors in Finite-element Based Ampacity Calculation
This paper addresses challenges with modelling of segmented power cable conductors using finite element analysis (FEA) for ampacity calculation. Segmented conductors improve current distribution by minimizing skin and proximity effects, thus reducing conductor losses. 2D FEA simulation offers high flexibility and accuracy beyond IEC 60287 for complex laying geometries, but the modelling of losses in segmented constructions using FEA has proven difficult due to the big difference in wire size and twisting pitch, requiring great amounts of computational power. In this paper a hybrid method is proposed, in which the IEC 60287 empirical formulae for segmented conductors are included in a 2D FEA model. The proposed method shows a good correspondence to IEC standard calculations, with deviations in conductor AC resistance of less than 1 %.Hybrid Method for Numerical Implementation of Segmented Power Cable Conductors in Finite-element Based Ampacity CalculationpublishedVersio
Land cover in Norway based on an area frame survey of vegetation types
The Norwegian area frame survey of land cover and outfield land resources (AR18X18), completed in 2014, provided unbiased statistics of land cover in Norway. The article reports the new statistics, discusses implications of the data set, and provides potential value in terms of research, management, and monitoring. A gridded sampling design for 1081 primary statistical units of 0.9 km2 at 18 km intervals was implemented in the survey. The plots were mapped in situ, aided by aerial photos, and all areas were coded following a vegetation type system. The results provide new insights into the cover and distribution of vegetation and land cover types. The statistic for mire and wetlands, which previously covered 5.8%, has since been corrected to 8.9%. The survey results can be used for environmental and agricultural management, and the data can be stratified for regional analyses. The survey data can also serve as training data for remote sensing and distribution modelling. Finally, the survey data can be used to calibrate vegetation perturbations in climate change research that focuses on atmosphericâvegetation feedback. The survey documented novel land cover statistics and revealed that the national cover of wetlands had previously been underestimated.publishedVersio
Decryption phase in Norwegian electronic voting
We describe an efficient and secure decryption protocol to the Norwegian Internet voting project. We first adapt Grothâs shuffle-decryption from 2010 to our purpose, and we prove all security properties in the random oracle model. We then describe the complete decryption algorithm, and prove that it maintains the security of the rest of the protocol
Can Electronic Tools Help Improve Nursing Home Quality?
Background. Nursing homes face challenges in the coming years due to the increased number of elderly. Quality will be under pressure, expectations of the services will rise, and clinical complexity will grow. New strategies are needed to meet this situation. Modern clinical information systems with decision support may be part of that. Objectives. To study the impact of introducing an electronic patient record system with decision support on the use of warfarin, neuroleptics and weighing of patients, in nursing homes. Methods. A prevalence study was performed in seven nursing homes with 513 subjects. A before-after study with internal controls was performed. Results. The prevalence of atrial fibrillation in the seven nursing homes was 18.8%. After intervention, the proportion of all patients taking warfarin increased from 3.0% to 9.8% (P = 0.0086), neuroleptics decreased from 33.0% to 21.5% (P = 0.0121), and the proportion not weighed decreased from 72.6% to 16.0% (P < 0.0001). The internal controls did not change significantly. Conclusion. Statistics and management data can be continuously produced to monitor the quality of work processes. The electronic health record system and its system for decision support can improve drug therapy and monitoring of treatment policy
