A systematic analysis method to calculate the frequency characteristics of E- and H-plane circular bends of any bend angle and curvature for a rectangular waveguide is proposed. The wide band frequency characteristics of a 90° bend angle are calculated for a wide range of bend curvature including a sharp bend by this metho

We propose a new single-mode and polarization-maintaining three-dimensional optical waveguide. The structure of the optical waveguide proposed here consists of lamination of very thin-films of two optical materials with different refractive indices and the rib-type waveguide for the confinement of the optical field in the vertical and horizontal direction respectively. The method of analysis is fundamentally based on the equivalent multi-mode transmission line model and thetransverse resonance condition. By this method, the propagation properties of the guided wave for various structure parametersare investigated. Some new numerical and useful results are obtained.1991 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium Digest, June 10-14, 1991, Hynes Convention Center, Boston, Massachusett

We propose and analyze a new optical three-dimensional waveguide having the function of a single-mode polarization-maintaining waveguide or TE/TM mode splitter. The structure of a dielectric optical waveguide proposed here consists of very thin multilayer films of optical materials with two different refractive indices for the confinement of the height direction and the strong mode separation between TE and TM and the rib-type waveguide for the confinement of the lateral direction. The method of analysis is based on the "mode-matching method using the planar circuitequations" and a familiar microwave equivalent circuit for 3-D waveguide-structures has been presented. This equivalent circuit derives the complete set of hybrid modes included mode conversion effects. In this paper, we also discuss onseveral fundamental properties of the guided mode for various structure parameters in the optical 3-D waveguide.24th European Microwave Conference 94, Palais des Festivals et des Congres, Cannes, France, 5-8 September 199

In order to calculate the wide-band frequency characteristics of the H-plane circular bend of a rectangular waveguide with an arbitrary bend curvature including sharp bend and any bend angle, a systematic method based on planar circuit theory is proposed; an equivalent multi-transmission line model is formulated and successfully applied to the practical structure, as well as to the E-plane circular bend cas

A synthesis method for a stripline-type branch-line 3-dB hybrid which is based on an equivalent circuit derived by the planar circuit approach is presented. The equivalent circuit of an ideal 3-dB hybrid is derived first from those of the segmented circuit elements, i.e., four three-port junctions and four quarter-wave transmission lines. A systematic synthesis process is then developed upon the basis of the equivalent circuit. Practical hybrid circuit having optimized circuit patterns which were constructed for center frequencies of 3, 5, and 7 GHz are discussed. Their measured characteristics are described. The results are shown to agree well with the theor
