Emerging trends and drivers for knowledge-intensive economy
Innovation and knowledge-intensive economy are considered crucial for addressing challenges and opportunities currently faced by Europe. The present paper aims to provide inputs for building a long-term vision aiming to promote innovation and knowledge economy for fostering smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. We analyze microdata from the 2016 Innobarometer "EU Business Innovation Trends" (Flash Eurobarometer 433), covering 14,112 companies from 30 countries in order to shed light on main drivers and results of business investments in innovation. We focus our analysis on high-tech industries and knowledge-intensive services. Additionally, expected positive impacts of innovation in knowledge-intensive sectors are explored in terms of job creation, digital economy, environment protection, health, transport, food quantity and quality, development of smart cities, etc. Our results are useful for designing an improved support for the emergence and impact of knowledge-intensive economy
Studying the cyclicality of the economy and prediction of new high risk of economic crises: a case study on the European countries from 1995 to 2018
From ancient time the economies had periods of expansion followed
by recession, each crisis was determined by various internal
or external factors. With globalization, economic interconnection
and the liberalization of resource exchange between states, high
risk of economic crises have sprung up. The main purpose of the
article is to determine a data model, using specific data analysis
techniques, and based on it to study the economic cyclicality in
Europe and the prediction of a possible economic crisis. The
study was conducted on a number of 37 indicators selected from
11 categories, a set of 29 countries in Europe and over a period
of 24 years (19952018) using the K-Means algorithm. Grouping
the data for each country in three classes and describing each
class by taking into account the variables with the highest discriminative
power, leads to the main conclusion that in the next
several years, an economic crisis in Europe has a high probability
to be a reality
Key Drivers and Skills Needed for Innovative Companies Focused on Sustainability
Sustainable innovation at a company level drives economic, environmental and social improvement at a national level. Recent evidence has shown that businesses have increased the managerial attention and investments dedicated to sustainability. This paper aims to identify the most important drivers supporting companies to develop innovation activities oriented towards making the business models more sustainable. We explore microdata from the 2016 Innobarometer "EU Business Innovation Trends" (Flash Eurobarometer 433), covering 8635 companies from 29 countries. Using statistical classification methods, we identify the most important factors that are related to innovation activities that have the potential to shape the efficiency of raw material usage and environmental protection. The most relevant factors emphasized by our analysis are: innovation performance of the country (innovation), percentage of the company turnover invested in innovation activities, percentage of total turnover invested in acquisition of machines, equipment, software or licenses, percentage of total turnover invested in company reputation and branding, including web design, percentage of total turnover invested in software development. Also, our analysis highlights the skills that are needed the most by companies in order to support their innovation activities targeting sustainability. Our results are useful for better understanding the attention that is given to sustainability by innovative companies, and what the main factors that boost innovation dedicated to sustainability are
Investigation on the Incidence, Diagnostic, Possibilities and Design of Prophylactic Treatment in an Outbreak of Bacterial Haemorrhagic Septicemia of Carp
The investigations carried out on a sample of 53 breeders (31 females and 22 males), in a fishing farm of Suatu village, County of Cluj, concerning the incidence of hemorrhagic bacterial septicaemia, diagnosis and profilactico-therapeutic possibilities. Results highlights a incidence of bacteriosis differentiated according to the category of breeders, 54.8% in females and 36.3% in males. Necropsy examination carried out on 3 specimen of suspected bacteriosis, highlights the presence of hemorrhagic skin lesions, which are dotted or diffuse, respectively musculo-cutaneous necrosis and ulcers. Regarding the internal injuries, opening of the body cavity, revealed consistency changes and septicemy form in major internal organs, as well as the presence of a liquid hollow looking sanguinolent. The bacterioscopic examination of smears from the pathologic material (skin surface end internal samples) and colored with the Gram method, reveled bacterial microflora, represented by coccobacillus and straight bacilli or slightly curved, both Gram negative. Furthermore, the bacteriological (culture) exam performed on usual and selective culture mediae, distinguishes the isolation of pure culture bacteriae belonging to the genus Aeromonas. The exam of biochemical traits, with the aid of API 20 E multitest determines that the isolated strains of Aeromonas spp. belong to the species Aeromonas hydrophila, indicted in the emergence and evolution of the bacterial of haemorrhagic septicaemia. Testing strains sensitivity to antibiotics and chemotherapy (through antibiograma level), reflects the isolated bacteria’s values of sensitivity in decreasing order: amoxicillin, oxytetracycline, florfenicol and enrofloxacilin. However, reduced sensitivity was recorded to tetracycline and ampicillin and resistance to erythromycin.Â
Entrepreneurship among higher education graduates in 13 European countries
Our paper investigates the school-to-work transition of higher education
graduates from European countries. Exploring REFLEX data set which includes
information on first jobs held by the ISCED 5 graduates, we study the incidence and
characteristics of youth entrepreneurship. Also, we find the educational, institutional and
personal factors influencing entrepreneurship along the 13 European countries. Our
results are important for designing future policies and programs for encouraging youth
entrepreneurship, especially among those with higher education
Characterization of hybrid chondroitin/dermatan sulfate octasaccharide domains in human brain by ion mobility tandem mass spectrometry
We report here on the introduction of a rapid, highly sensitive and reliable approach in a single run, based on ion mobility separation (IMS), high resolution and tandem MS (MS/MS) by collision-induced dissociation (CID) for compositional and structural elucidation of neural chondroitin sulfate (CS) and dermatan sulfate (DS) domains, which implies the determination of the epimerization and the sulfation code of regular and irregular structures. By IMS MS and CID MS/MS, we were able to characterize in details CS/DS octasaccharides from brain obtained after CS/DS chain depolymerization by chondroitin B lyase and to detect sequences that were never found before in the octasaccharide domains of the investigated CS/DS brain fraction
