    Irrationality Results for Values of Generalized Tschakaloff Series

    AbstractArithmetical properties of values of the entire functionTq(x)=∑∞n=0xn/q(1/2)n(n+1), whereqis a parameter, |q|>1, were first studied by L. Tschakaloff (1921,Math. Ann.80, 62–74;84, 100–114). In this paper we introduce a generalization ofTq(x), given by (1.3), and prove the irrationality results for the values of (1.3) at rational points (see Theorem and Corollaries at the end of Section 1). One of the essential tools in the proof is a variant of Mahler's transcendence method, due to J. H. Loxton and A. J. van der Poorten (1977,in“Transcendence Theory: Advances and Applications,” pp. 211–226, Academic Press, San Diego)

    本研究は,常時微動観測を地震時応答解析の評価法として利用しようと考え,検討した結果をまと めたものである. 常時微動観測の妥当性については,解析手法の1つであるH/Vスペクトル比を強震記録に対して求め, 解析結果を比較し,検討した.まず,徳島県内のK-NET観測地点5地点を対象に強震記録解析を行い, 地盤震動特性を求めた.次に同一地点において常時微動観測を実施し,地盤震動特性を求めた.そし て,それぞれを比較検討した結果,両者に整合性があることを見出した.このことから,常時微動観 測が地震時応答解析の評価法として利用可能であることを検証した.This paper presents a study on accuracy verification of microtemor measurement technique itself and possibility to be used as a verification index of dynamic analysis, because no verification system on dynamic analyses is prepared yet, though it may be not recognized. As the first step, microtemor measurement technique was verified using indexes of H/V spectrum, here H stands for horizontal acceleration observed, and V stands for vertical acceleration observed. In order to compare the ratio from data observed by the microtemor adjacent a measurement house of K-Net in Tokushima prefecture for strong motion seismograph to that observed by the K-Net system (accuracy of strong motion seismograph is proved; Over 2G of magnitude of acceleration is recorded), microtemor were observed near measurement houses of K-Net. As predominant period of ground and amplification ratio are found from a H/V spectrum diagram, index parameters of predominant period and amplification ratio are compared between data obtained by the microtemor and records of strong motion. Sufficient accurate coincidence of indexes between two data is found. This result concludes that the microtemor measurement technique can be used to obtain dynamic indexes instead of installation of strong motion seismograph, as ground dynamic indexes obtained by the microtemor is assured to observe them with the same accuracy as that observed by a strong motion seismograph

    Zero Order Estimates for Analytic Functions

    The primary goal of this paper is to provide a general multiplicity estimate. Our main theorem allows to reduce a proof of multiplicity lemma to the study of ideals stable under some appropriate transformation of a polynomial ring. In particular, this result leads to a new link between the theory of polarized algebraic dynamical systems and transcendental number theory. On the other hand, it allows to establish an improvement of Nesterenko's conditional result on solutions of systems of differential equations. We also deduce, under some condition on stable varieties, the optimal multiplicity estimate in the case of generalized Mahler's functional equations, previously studied by Mahler, Nishioka, Topfer and others. Further, analyzing stable ideals we prove the unconditional optimal result in the case of linear functional systems of generalized Mahler's type. The latter result generalizes a famous theorem of Nishioka (1986) previously conjectured by Mahler (1969), and simultaneously it gives a counterpart in the case of functional systems for an important unconditional result of Nesterenko (1977) concerning linear differential systems. In summary, we provide a new universal tool for transcendental number theory, applicable with fields of any characteristic. It opens the way to new results on algebraic independence, as shown in Zorin (2010).Comment: 42 page

    Glycolysis Inhibition Inactivates ABC Transporters to Restore Drug Sensitivity in Malignant Cells

    Cancer cells eventually acquire drug resistance largely via the aberrant expression of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters, ATP-dependent efflux pumps. Because cancer cells produce ATP mostly through glycolysis, in the present study we explored the effects of inhibiting glycolysis on the ABC transporter function and drug sensitivity of malignant cells. Inhibition of glycolysis by 3-bromopyruvate (3BrPA) suppressed ATP production in malignant cells, and restored the retention of daunorubicin or mitoxantrone in ABC transporter-expressing, RPMI8226 (ABCG2), KG-1 (ABCB1) and HepG2 cells (ABCB1 and ABCG2). Interestingly, although side population (SP) cells isolated from RPMI8226 cells exhibited higher levels of glycolysis with an increased expression of genes involved in the glycolytic pathway, 3BrPA abolished Hoechst 33342 exclusion in SP cells. 3BrPA also disrupted clonogenic capacity in malignant cell lines including RPMI8226, KG-1, and HepG2. Furthermore, 3BrPA restored cytotoxic effects of daunorubicin and doxorubicin on KG-1 and RPMI8226 cells, and markedly suppressed subcutaneous tumor growth in combination with doxorubicin in RPMI8226-implanted mice. These results collectively suggest that the inhibition of glycolysis is able to overcome drug resistance in ABC transporter-expressing malignant cells through the inactivation of ABC transporters and impairment of SP cells with enhanced glycolysis as well as clonogenic cells
