Simple function form for n+208Pb total cross section between 5 and 600 MeV
The total cross section for neutron scattering from 208Pb with energies
between 5 and 600 MeV has been analyzed extending a previously defined simple
function of three parameters to reveal a Ramsauer-like effect throughout the
whole energy range. This effect can be parametrized in a simple way so that it
may be anticipated that the complete function prescription will apply for total
cross sections from other nuclei.Comment: 9 pages, 4 firgure
Simple function forms and nucleon-nucleus total cross sections
Total cross sections for neutron scattering with energies between 10 and 600
MeV and from nine nuclei spanning the mass range from 6Li to 238U have been
analyzed using a simple function of three parameters. The values of those
parameters with which neutron total cross section data are replicated vary
smoothly with energy and target mass and may themselves be represented by
functions of energy and mass.Comment: 15 pages, 9 figure
Coupled-channel calculation of bound and resonant spectra of Lambda-9Be and Lambda-13C hypernuclei
A Multi-Channel Algebraic Scattering (MCAS) approach has been used to analyze
the spectra of two hyper-nuclear systems, Lambda-9Be and Lambda-13C. The
splitting of the two odd-parity excited levels (1/2^- and 3/2^-) at 11 MeV
excitation in Lambda-13C is driven mainly by the weak Lambda-nucleus spin-orbit
force, but the splittings of the 3/2^+ and 5/2^+ levels in both Lambda-9Be and
Lambda-13C have a different origin. These cases appear to be dominated by
coupling to the collective 2+ states of the core nuclei. Using simple
phenomenological potentials as input to the MCAS method, the observed splitting
and level ordering in Lambda-9Be is reproduced with the addition of a weak
spin-spin interaction acting between the hyperon and the spin of the excited
target. With no such spin-spin interaction, the level ordering in Lambda-9Be is
inverted with respect to that currently observed. In both hyper-nuclei, our
calculations suggest that there are additional low-lying resonant states in the
Lambda-nucleus continua.Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures, 6 tables. To be published in International

A simple functional form for proton-Pb total reaction cross sections
A simple functional form has been found that gives a good representation of
the total reaction cross sections for the scattering from Pb of
protons with energies in the range 30 to 300 MeV.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure
A Hot Channel
This paper studies on-chip communication with non-ideal heat sinks. A channel
model is proposed where the variance of the additive noise depends on the
weighted sum of the past channel input powers. It is shown that, depending on
the weights, the capacity can be either bounded or unbounded in the input
power. A necessary condition and a sufficient condition for the capacity to be
bounded are presented.Comment: to be presented at 2007 IEEE Information Theory Workshop (ITW),

Holographic Fermi arcs and a d-wave gap
We study fermion correlators in a holographic superfluid with a d-wave (spin
two) order parameter. We find that, with a suitable bulk Majorana coupling, the
Fermi surface is anisotropically gapped. At low temperatures the gap shrinks to
four nodal points. At high temperatures the Fermi surface is partially gapped
generating four Fermi arcs.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
