On the lumped damage modelling of reinforced concrete beams and arches

The analysis of reinforced concrete structures can be performed by means of experiments or numerical studies. The first way is usually quite expensive, so the second one sometimes is a good option to understand the physical behaviour of actual structures. Lumped damage mechanics appears as one of the latest nonlinear theories and presents itself as an interesting alternative to analyse the mechanical behaviour of reinforced concrete structures. The lumped damage mechanic applies concepts of the classic fracture and damage mechanics in plastic hinges for nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete structures. Therefore, this paper deals with a novel physical definition of the correction factor γ for cracking evolution that ensures the presented lumped damage model depicts accuracy when it is compared to experimental observations of reinforced concrete beams and arches. Based on such experiments, the numerical analysis showed that γ value has upper and lower thresholds, depending on the physical and geometric properties of the reinforced concrete element. Notwithstanding, for γ values inside of the proposed interval, there is a best value of γ

Establishment of Sorghum bicolor L. plants under different water regimes

The present study aim to evaluate the effect of water availability on initial growth of sorghum plants, also, identify the tolerance strategy to drought and excess of water. The study was carried out in a greenhouse covered with transparent plastic and shade cloth on the sides that intercept 50% of radiation at the State University of Goiás, Southeast Campus, Ipameri Unit. The Sorghum bicolor seeds were sown in 5 liters pots containing a mix of soil, sand and manure 3:1:1, respectively. The experimental design used was completely randomized, with six treatments and six replications. After 20 days of emergence, the plants was irrigated with water volumes according to 0%, 25%, 50%, 100%, 200% and 400% of daily evapotranspiration. The analysis was carried out 40 days after emergence (DAE). The water restriction limit growth of sorghum plants, however, to tolerate stress, the plants increase the root system and decrease the transpiration through the efficient stomatal control and maintain hydrated to support growth, besides that, decrease the concentration of leaf photosynthetic pigments as a photoprotection mechanism. The excess of water between 100% and 400% of evapotranspiration (ET) did not limit growth of Sorghum bicolor plants, because the high transpiration rate eliminated to atmosphere the excess of water, however, above 230% of ET, the plants showed smooth signs of decreased leaf initiation and water relative content

As finanças do BNDES: evolução recente e tendências

Mostra-se que os resultados do BNDES têm sido associados ao retorno da renda variável e que os recursos líquidos do FAT estão escasseando. O artigo discute as incertezas associadas à continuidade do financiamento por parte do Tesouro na próxima década e conclui que, se o BNDES quiser continuar sua expansão, terá de se engajar em um intenso programa de novas captações, na década de 2010.This article analyzes the evolution of the BNDES finances during the current decade and discusses its prospects for the following years. It is shown that the BNDES results have been related to the stock market returns and that the net resources of FAT (Worker´s Assistance Fund) are diminishing. The paper discusses the uncertainties associated with the continuity of Treasury fi nancing in the next decade and concludes that BNDES will have to engage in a strong fundraising program in the 2010 decade, if it wants to continue expanding its budget

Evidence from Cochrane systematic reviews for the dissemination control of the COVID-19 infection

Introduction: The COVID-19 infection has high transmissibility and several measures have been adopted for dissemination control. Objective: To identify and summarize the evidence from the Cochrane systematic reviews (SR) on measures to control the dissemination of the COVID-19 infection. Study design: This review of Cochrane SR has carried out in the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and in the Division of Emergency Medicine and Evidence-Based Medicine of the Universidade Federal de São Paulo, Brazil. Methods: A comprehensive search in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews retrieved all Cochrane SR directly related to control measures for the COVID-19 dissemination. The main characteristics and results of all included SR were summarized and discussed. Results: Three Cochrane SRs were included in the qualitative synthesis and they evaluated populational and individual measures to control the dissemination of COVID-19. Conclusion: Low-certainty evidence show that quarantine of people exposed to those confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases prevented 44% - 81% of incident cases and 31% - 63% of deaths compared to no measures and as sooner the quarantine measures are implemented, greater costs are saved. High-confidence evidence showed that clear communication about infection control and prevention guidelines was vital to its implementation. Low-certainty evidence showed that people with a long gown had less contamination than those with a coverall, and the coverall was more difficult to doff. Other SRs are desirable for controlling the dissemination of the COVID-19 infection

Monogamy: Winnicottian interpretations

O objetivo deste artigo é desenvolver hipóteses sobre as relações entre o desenvolvimento psíquico e emocional tal como descrito por Winnicott e a monogamia. A monogamia pode ser interpretada como uma tentativa de retorno à situação originária, na qual a segurança proporcionada pela relação de dependência com a mãe é reencontrada. Nesse tipo de arranjo amoroso, tenta-se restabelecer sentimentos de segurança, exclusividade e necessidade do outro. Assim, propõe-se pensar a constituição de um casal como uma tentativa de fixarem-se como indispensáveis, recusando a transitoriedade e a transicionalidade do vínculo. Essa relação seria uma tentativa de nos poupar da angústia de não sermos amados e apaziguaria o excesso de excitação pulsional herdado dos carinhos iniciais dos primeiros cuidadores. É ainda possível pensar que a monogamia, por ser um modelo social impositivo, também facilite a instalação e a manutenção de falsos selves.Palavras-chave: monogamia, Winnicott , dependência materna.The aim of this article is to develop hypothesis about the relations between psychic and emotional development as described by Winnicott and the monogamy. We conclude that monogamy can be interpreted as an attempt to return to the original state in which the security provided by the dependent relationship with the mother is rediscovered. In this type of loving arrangement, there are attempts to restore feelings of security, exclusivity and need of others. Thus, it is proposed to think the constitution of a couple as an attempt to establish themselves as indispensable, refusing the transience and the transitioning of the affectionate bond. This relationship would be an attempt to spare us the anguish of not being loved and appease excess of drive excitement inherited from the initial affection of the first caregivers. It is still possible to think that monogamy, as a forceful social model, also facilitates the installation and maintenance of false selves.Keywords: monogamy, Winnicott, Maternal dependence

ESTRUTURA ACADÊMICA E A PRÁTICA EM SALA DE AULA EM UMA GRANDE UNIVERSIDADE PRIVADA DA CIDADE DE SÃO PAULO/SP: EXISTE CONVERGÊNCIA?

Este artigo apresenta um estudo a respeito das práticas de ensino-aprendizagem e sua adequação com o projeto político pedagógico (PPP) de em uma grande universidade privada na cidade de São Paulo/SP. O objetivo desse trabalho é verificar a dinâmica da sala de aula do professor, os recursos utilizados, a discussão na construção da aprendizagem, o planejamento do curso de administração de empresas, as conexões com o mercado no processo de aprendizagem e a avaliação do estudante. Na primeira parte desse estudo serão considerados como pilares teóricos os principais conceitos referentes aos elementos pedagógicos, tais como: planejamento do curso, metodologias, a necessidade do saber e avalição. A metodologia utilizada é qualitativa de caráter descritiva e como estratégia de análise de dados adota-se a análise de conteúdo. Neste estudo foram utilizadas duas fontes de informações: as observações do ambiente de aula e documentos da universidade a respeito de suas práticas pedagógicas coletando-se a mais completa sequência possível de dados pertinentes ao processo estudado. Na conclusão indicaram-se como fatores críticos a busca de uma identidade própria por parte dos professores e alunos na construção, integração e aplicação de teorias e práticas, buscando a uma consistência no aprendizado
