    Investigation of Influential Variables to Predict Passing Rate at Short Passing Zones on Two-Lane Rural Highways

    The passing zone (PZ) is that part of two-lane highways in which drivers can safely overtake slower vehicles. Several studies have presented passing rate models in the PZ. However, there is no model to predict the passing rate in PZs shorter than 350 m. Furthermore, the effect of variables such as lane width and the proportion of motorcycles on the passing rate were not investigated in previous works. This study assessed the effects of these variables on the passing rate and presents a prediction passing model for short PZs. Data were collected from seven PZs using a drone on three different two-lane rural highway segments in Iran. The results showed that the passing rate depends on the lane width, the absolute vertical grade, the flow rate in both directions, the directional split, the proportion of heavy vehicles in the subject direction, and the proportion of motorcycles in the subject direction. Short PZ length values did not have a significant effect on the passing rate. The passing capacity occurred at a flow rate of 680vehicle/h in both directions irrespective of the directional split

    Alat ini dibuat dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui informasi tentang kondisi baik dan buruk keadaan telur ayam kampung. Selama ini, banyak metode manual yang tersedia yang dimanfaatkan untuk mengetahui kualitas telur ayam misalnya memanfaatkan sinar matahari atau senter untuk menyinari telur di tempat yang gelap kemudian melihat isi dari telur ayam yang akan diurutkan. Proses yang sama juga telah dilakukan peternak atau penjual untuk memilah kulitas telur ayamnya. Memanfaatkan metode manual untuk mendeteksi kualitas telur memerlukan waktu yang cukup lama karena waktu mendeteksi telur ayam satu demi satu akan mendapatkan resiko telur lepas dari tangan dan tentunya perlu waktu begitu lama. Maka dari itu dibuatlah alat pendeteksi telur dengan memanfaatkan sensor LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) sebagai pendeteksinya, LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) sebagai output keluaran tentang informasi kondisi telur dan Mikrokontroler ATMega8535 sebagai prosesor serta motor servo sebagai penanda apabila telur dalam keadaan buruk. Dari penelitian yang diadapatkan masih terdapat nilai error saat pendeteksian namun dapat disimpulkan bahwa sistem alat dapat bekerja dengan baik

    Seed Quality of Greengram Stored in Different Storage Environment

    A laboratory experiment was conducted with mungbean seeds kept in three different containers. Three containers were tin pot, poly bag and jute bag and stored at room temperature and RH for three months (23 June-23 September) in the Laboratory of Agronomy Department, Sher-e- Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh to study their storage behavior, germination percentage and quality. The seed of jute bag came to the contact with air and their moisture contents was decreased from initial moisture content and remained near to their Equilibrium Moisture content (EMC), moisture content of the seeds of jute bag was found decreased from 7.50% to 16.70% within 6 weeks of storage. But moisture contents of seeds of tin pot and poly bag remained approximate constant throughout 7 weeks period. As tin pot and poly bag was more or less air tight so the seeds of these container could not come to the contact with ambient room air, resulting no significant change of their moisture content. Germination capacity of the seeds of tin pot was found decreased from 78% to 68% and 77% to 58% in the seeds of poly bag. Germination capacity of the seeds of jute bag was found decreased from 73% to 48%t in 5th week of storage. So, the germination capacity was also found a little bit higher than the seeds of other containers. Considering three different container, tin pot container has been proved much more safe and secured than jute bag or poly bag container

    Indonesia-Malaysia boundary has disturbed of dispute national territorial. It is because Indonesia-Malaysia government put the boundary pole that can be lost or displacement. For instance, a case of pole coordinate changing in Kalimantan area that makes Indonesia has losing area threaten for 6.480 million m2. For one of solutions, the purposes of this program are design and produce a prototype of boundary pole detection tool with GPS which connect to security-guard. In the tool making, the methods are: needs analysis; design tool form and tool ways of working; tool prototype making; and functional test and evaluation. By fusing technology GPS tracker, SMS Gateway, and limit switch which produce a tool of national boundary pole detection with SMS gateway can operate 3 principal functions which are: status check, monitoring, and warning alarm. So that, the using of the tool of boundary pole detection can more easier to monitor the border, everytime, everywhere, and faster information conveyed

    Role of Corporate Social Responsibility in Corporate Reputation via Organizational Trust and Commitment

    Purpose: The conceptual framework based on a comprehensive literature review hypothesized that the perceived CSR of an organization may lead to the development of trust and commitment among the employees, which in turn may lead to the building of the corporate reputation of the organization. Along with that, the moderating effects of HRM practices and organizational justice have also been investigated in the given relationship of corporate social responsibility (CSR) with its given mediators i.e., “organizational trust” and “organizational commitment”. Methodology: The target population of the study was comprised of the management and teaching faculty of educational institutions. The random sampling technique was employed to carry out an empirical study of 380 samples of employees. The data collected were analyzed by using the Smart PLS 3 software. The model was tested, and all the hypotheses were accepted. Findings: A positive relationship has been observed between CSR investments and corporate reputation. Furthermore, empirical results show that the employee’s commitment and the level of trust towards the organization serve as partial mediators between CSR practices and corporate reputation. The results showed that all of the hypotheses were accepted. Conclusion: This study is intuitive and empirically substantiates the selection of organizational justice and HRM practices as moderating variables between the observed CSR activities and its given mediators

    Characterization and Optimization of Integrated Silicon-Photonic Neural Networks under Fabrication-Process Variations

    Silicon-photonic neural networks (SPNNs) have emerged as promising successors to electronic artificial intelligence (AI) accelerators by offering orders of magnitude lower latency and higher energy efficiency. Nevertheless, the underlying silicon photonic devices in SPNNs are sensitive to inevitable fabrication-process variations (FPVs) stemming from optical lithography imperfections. Consequently, the inferencing accuracy in an SPNN can be highly impacted by FPVs -- e.g., can drop to below 10% -- the impact of which is yet to be fully studied. In this paper, we, for the first time, model and explore the impact of FPVs in the waveguide width and silicon-on-insulator (SOI) thickness in coherent SPNNs that use Mach-Zehnder Interferometers (MZIs). Leveraging such models, we propose a novel variation-aware, design-time optimization solution to improve MZI tolerance to different FPVs in SPNNs. Simulation results for two example SPNNs of different scales under realistic and correlated FPVs indicate that the optimized MZIs can improve the inferencing accuracy by up to 93.95% for the MNIST handwritten digit dataset -- considered as an example in this paper -- which corresponds to a <0.5% accuracy loss compared to the variation-free case. The proposed one-time optimization method imposes low area overhead, and hence is applicable even to resource-constrained design
