Notoungulates were a diverse group of South American ungulates that included the rodent-like typotherians. However, they are typically compared with other ungulates and interpreted as grazers. Here we present the first detailed reconstruction of the masticatory muscles of the pachyrukhine typotherians Paedotherium and Tremacyllus. An outstanding feature is the presence of a true sciuromorph condition, defined by an anterior portion of the deep masseter muscle originating from a wide zygomatic plate that reaches the rostrum, a trait traceable since the Oligocene pachyrukhines. Consequently, pachyrukhines are the first case of sciuromorph non-rodent mammals. This morphology would have allowed them to explore ecological niches unavailable for the exclusively hystricomorph coexisting rodents. This innovative acquisition seems to be synchronous in Pachyrukhinae and sciuromorph rodents and related to hard-food consumption. We postulate the expansion of nut and cone trees during the major environmental changes at Eocene−Oligocene transition as a potential trigger for this convergence.Fil: Ercoli, Marcos Darío. This research work is done with the purpose of describing the elements of the organizational development in the executive transport service. The development of the executive transport service is an important part of Ecuadorian economics and it needs some change parameters, quality negotiation, process reengineering, competitivity, and control. There are many categories of transport, but the executive transport is the unique service and it must maintain an efficient, effective and appropriate system, for that reason it has been detected as a problem the necessity of adjusting and doing research of the activities and procedures through an internal control system that will produce more requirements in the workers of each department of the Euromoving Fast enterprise on the base of objectives and actions of internal organizational development. The methodology used in this work was “workable project”, it means, a research of documentalbibliographic type, an intense analysis from the source (survey) and an original proposal in which it is described through the Procedure Manual every 21 departmental procedures. The sample applied to the diagnostic-situational process was of 252 people who are divided into workers, financial managers and enterprise dealers. Its objective was to find a relation of the service offer and the demand satisfaction. Therefore, it was made a questionnaire to each diagnostic groups before mentioned, with closed questions and the same that has relation among segments to check the answer level. The favored people of this research are who form part of the enterprise. Finally, it was described to the proposal Manual of Administrative Procedure to the Euromoving Fast Enterprise pointing the process for every department. The relationship between the hygienic habits of children who had typhoid fever (TF) who had recently begun attending school and their family group, is assessed. It is supposed that children, independently of their SES, acquired TF because of inadequate habits which facilitated the oral-fecal cycle. The sample was formed of 40 child-mother dyads: 20 of low SES (group A) and 20 of high SES (group B), the child of each of which had had TF. Results showed that the hygienic habits of children with respect to the oral-fecal cycle, their perception of school toilet cleanliness as well as the mothers' explanation of their children's hygienic habits is very similar in the two groups. The importance of these results is that the SES is seem to be irrelevant in the case of TF but that the hygienic habits of the children are of importance.

Tracing the Paleobiology of Paedotherium and Tremacyllus (Pachyrukhinae, Notoungulata), the Latest Sciuromorph South American Native Ungulates – Part II: Orbital, Auditory, and Occipito-Cervical Regions

The caudal cranium and occipito-cervical region, although usually overlooked, are informative about the paleobiology of fossil mammals, allowing inquiry into vision and hearing abilities, as well as head and neck postures. Particularly for Pachyrukhinae, some related features remain unexplored. In this contribution, 22 specimens of Paedotherium and Tremacyllus were analyzed in a mainly qualitative and comparative framework. Pachyrukhines are characterized by having large orbits and hearing cavities, moderate to short necks with generalized morphologies, and S-shape postures. These features allow rejecting some types of specialized digging habits, and support the preference of open or low-humidity environments. Paedotherium typicum is distinguished by the presence of laterally oriented eyes, marked vaulted cranium and predominant short extensor and stabilizing neck muscles, and cervico-occipital-hyoid configurations suitable for ventro-flexed resting posture. These features indicate accentuated frontation and panoramic-vision, upward head postures enhancing substrate perception, and the resistance of impacts during leaping-cursorial locomotion. Conversely, P. bonaerense, and to lesser degree Tremacyllus spp., show less frontation and probably adopted more horizontal head postures. More particularly, stronger ventral and lateral neck and head flexors and extrinsic arm musculature are reconstructed for P. bonaerense, compatible with generalist or scratch-digging habits. Its smaller auditory cavities and stronger ear musculature, compared to the contemporary P. typicum and especially Tremacyllus spp., would indicate larger ears and microhabitat segregation. The integrative analysis proposed here and in the accompanying contribution aims to shed light on convergences with extant models, paleobiology, niche partitioning, and external appearance of the latest rodent-like ungulates.Fil: Ercoli, Marcos Darío. Photochemically driven tandem process in the construction of a biscyclopropylcage from 2,5-dimethoxy-p-benzoquinone and terminal acetylenes

    Get PDF
A photochemical two-step one-pot synthesis of novel biscyclopropyl-box-shaped compounds via the reaction of 2,5-dimethoxy-para-benzoquinone and monosubstituted alkynes is reported. The reaction mechanism for a process in which six new C–C bonds are formed is explored by means of experimental and computational techniques. The whole process occurs with complete selectivity, and only one densely decorated diastereomer is obtained; such a degree of control and substitution makes for a rather powerful and complexity-building process.Agencia Estatal de Investigación | Ref. Deciphering the degree of proton-transfer in pyrido-cyclophanes by chiroptical outcomes in non-aqueous solvents

Proton transfer equilibria are of pivotal importance due to the role they play in a plethora of biological and phamaceutical processes. With the aim of explaining the relative position of the hydrogen to be transferred, we investigated the behavior of chiral pyrido-cyclophanes with different morphologies using circular dichroism in the presence of different acids in acetonitrile. The results showed that all three compounds underwent double protonation and formation of cascade ion-pairs, leading to the appearance of diagnostic signals in their ECD spectra. The presence of water fosters the crystallization of several intermediates that do not correspond to those in solution. By using Brønsted correlations, it was found that proton transfer from the acid to the pyridine occurred regardless of the acid's p K a .Agencia Estatal de Investigación | Ref.
