Ethology has shown that animal groups or colonies can perform complex calculation distributing simple decision-making processes to the group members. For example ant colonies can optimize the trajectories towards the food by performing both a reinforcement (or a cancellation) of the pheromone traces and a switch from one path to another with stronger pheromone. Such ant's processes can be implemented in a photonic hardware to reproduce stigmergic signal processing. We present innovative, completely integrated X-junctions realized using solitonic waveguides which can provide both ant's decision-making processes. The proposed X-junctions can switch from symmetric (50/50) to asymmetric behaviors (80/20) using optical feedbacks, vanishing unused output channels or reinforcing the used ones

Estos resultados obtenidos a corto plazo pueda que ofrezcan un nuevo enfoque a la hora de elegir estrategias dirigida a sujetos con TDAH.[Abstract] Learning problems presented by children and adolescents with ADHD among others are the syntax loosely organized and less grammatical complexity, and a low capacity in reading comprehension due to poor attentional capacity, so it is essential intervention in all processes involved. In this context, the main objective of this work has been to design a strategy based on syntactic and semantic comprehension strategies and learning from sentences and texts, in this last way we will focus on organizational strategies, selection and integration structuring program. In a single case study involved a man of 13 years with ADHD. As instruments we used Reading Span Test (PAL), the Conners Scales (parents and teachers) and the Stroop Test to measure the executive processes. For the evaluation of the processes readers PROLEC-SE was administered. To assess reading comprehension was used PIRLS. The analysis tests showed a slight improvement in the syntactic-semantic structure also showed an improvement in reading comprehension, following the internalization of syntactic / semantic strategies using macrorules and superstructures according to the text. These short-term results that may offer a new approach to choosing directed to subjects with ADHD strategies.Traballo fin de mestrado (UDC.FCS). Discapacidade e dependencia. Curso 2015/201

Formats of Winning Strategies for Six Types of Pushdown Games

The solution of parity games over pushdown graphs (Walukiewicz '96) was the first step towards an effective theory of infinite-state games. It was shown that winning strategies for pushdown games can be implemented again as pushdown automata. We continue this study and investigate the connection between game presentations and winning strategies in altogether six cases of game arenas, among them realtime pushdown systems, visibly pushdown systems, and counter systems. In four cases we show by a uniform proof method that we obtain strategies implementable by the same type of pushdown machine as given in the game arena. We prove that for the two remaining cases this correspondence fails. In the conclusion we address the question of an abstract criterion that explains the results

D-term Uplifts in Non-Supersymmetric Heterotic String Models

Recently, we proposed that the one-loop tadpole diagram in perturbative non-supersymmetric heterotic string vacua that contain an anomalous U(1)U(1) symmetry, leads to an analog of the Fayet-Iliopoulos DD-term in N=1\mathcal{N}=1 supersymmetric models, and may uplift the vacuum energy from negative to positive value. In this paper, we extend this analysis to new types of vacua, including those with Stringy Scherk-Schwarz (SSS) spontaneous supersymmetry breaking versus those with explicit breaking. We develop a criteria that facilitates the extraction of vacua with Scherk-Schwarz breaking. We develop systematic tools to analyse the T-duality property of some of the vacua and demonstrate them in several examples. The extraction of the anomalous U(1)U(1) DD-terms is obtained in two ways. The first utilises the calculation of the U(1)U(1)-charges from the partition function, whereas the second utilises the free fermionic classification methodology to classify large spaces of vacua and analyse the properties of the massless spectrum. The systematic classification method also ensures that the models are free from physical tachyons. We provide a systematic tool to relate the free fermionic basis vectors and one-loop Generalised GSO phases that define the string models, to the one-loop partition function in the orbifold representation. We argue that a DD-term uplift, while rare, is possible for both the SSS class of models, as well as in those with explicit breaking. We discuss the steps needed to further develop the arguments presented here.Comment: 38 pages, 15 figure
