On this President's Day, I am reminded of something that President Lincoln is reported to have said. "Common-looking people are the best in the world; that is the reason the Lord makes so many of them. " Lord, as I look out over this room, I am convinced that we must be the best in the world! Well, we may be common-looking, but the tasks before us are anything but common. Please grant us the wisdom, patience, unity, and love to get it done. I pray in the Name of the Savior we need. AMEN. As always, we first give thanks. Thank You for giving us a way to speak for those who elected us to act on their behalf. Thank You for the gift of passion as well as compassion. We thank You today, not only for our ability to advocate, but we also thank You for our ability to listen. I’m often reminded that God saw fit to give us one mouth to speak. However, He gave us not one, but two ears so that we might listen twice as much as we speak. Lord, we pray that Your divine wisdom in Proverbs 11:14 resonates with us on this 100th day of the legislative session—wherein You tell us—“Where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is victory.” Our God, bless us that we might use the tools You have given us to seek wisdom with our hearts and minds, but also to seek wisdom by listening to wise guidance. Lord, when we complete this task, we pray for Victory, not for our own sake but for our great State, and for Your Glory. In the name of all that is good, we pray. AMEN.
