An archaeology of historical reality?: A case study of the recent past
An Aboriginal elder, an archaeologist and a geographer report on an interdisciplinary project about colonial-era settlement in the Murchison and Davenport ranges in the Northern Territory. Oral history, physical evidence and historical records reveal a distinct central Australian cultural landscape and show that archaeology can do more than merely exhume material to support historical \u27realities\u27. This project provides new or improved understandings of (1) colonial technology in pastoral ventures, (2) continuity and change in Aboriginal life following European arrival, (3) social behaviour in colonial settings, and (4) alternatives to Eurocentric Australian histories

Comparison of rheological models for determining dark chocolate viscosity
Summary Parameters in chocolate rheology, namely shear viscosity and yield stress, are important in manufacture and directly influenced by product particle size distribution (PSD) and composition. The Casson model was the standard confectionery industry strategy to quantify rheological properties of molten chocolate until in 2000, the International Confectionery Association recommended the use of interpolation data to describe viscosity. The two strategies are compared and correlated in defining rheological properties of molten dark chocolates prepared using different PSD, fat and lecithin content. Rheological parameters were determined using a shear rate-controlled rheometer and data examined using correlation, regression and principal component analyses to establish their inter-relationships. Correlation and regression analyses showed high correlation (r = 0.89-1.00) and regression coefficients (R 2 = 0.84-1.00). The newer International Confectionery Association technique gave higher correlation and regression coefficients than the Casson model, but multivariate principal component analysis showed that the two models were highly related and either could effectively quantify dark chocolate viscosity parameters
Depression and anxiety in an Early Rheumatoid Arthritis inception cohort. Associations with demographic, socioeconomic and disease features
Objective: Depression and anxiety are not uncommon in Rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It is increasingly recognised that they are associated with high disease activity and worse disease outcomes. We aimed to examine the frequency of depression and anxiety in an early RA inception cohort and to explore associations with disease-related measures.
Methods: The Scottish Early Rheumatoid Arthritis inception cohort recruited newly diagnosed RA patients followed-up 6-monthly. Anxiety and depression were assessed using the hospital anxiety and depression scale. Associations with demographic characteristics and disease-related measures were examined at baseline, 6 months and 12 months.
Results: 848 RA patients were included. The prevalence of anxiety and depression at baseline was 19.0% and 12.2%, respectively. Depression and anxiety scores correlated with DAS28 at all time-points (all p<0.0001). In multivariable linear regression, anxiety score at baseline was associated with younger age and Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ) score. Anxiety scores at 6 months and 12 months were associated with low body mass index (BMI), baseline anxiety score and current patient global score and HAQ. Depression score at baseline was associated with younger age, being single and HAQ, while depression scores at 6 months and 12 months were associated with male gender (only at 6 months), baseline anxiety and depression scores and current patient global score, HAQ and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels.
Conclusion: Depression and anxiety are associated with disease activity, worse functional status and other variables in early RA. There is a close relationship between CRP and depression but not anxiety

Kajian rekabentuk dan susun atur perabot dan peralatan makmal perpaipan - satu cadangan
Kajian ini bertujuan untuk merekabentuk ruang dalaman dan susunatur perabot dan peralatan Makmal Perpaipan agar dapat digunakan secara efektif untuk menampung pelbagai aktiviti pelajar serta memenuhi keperluan keija dan flzikal mereka. Aspek-aspek yang diambilkira dalam kajian ini adalah keluasan ruang, kapasiti pelajar, jumlah perabot dan kelengkapan makmal serta aktiviti-aktiviti yang akan dilakukan di makmal tersebut. Garispanduan dan Peraturan bagi Perancangan Bangunan oleh Jawatankuasa Kecil Piawaian dan Kos bagi JPPN, Jabatan Perdana Menteri digunakan untuk mengenalpasti masalah dan panduan dalam proses merekabentuk makmal perpaipan. Pemerhatian juga telah dibuat terhadap tiga (3) buah Makmal Perpaipan iaitu di Makmal Teknologi Perpaipan , KUiTTHO, Makmal Perpaipan Akademi Binaan Malaysia, Johor Bahru dan Makmal Perpaipan Politeknik Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, Jitra. Seterusnya, penilaian rekabentuk dengan menggunakan borang soalselidik dilakukan terhadap sampel terpilih iaitu 5 orang responden yang mahir dalam bidang rekabentuk dan susunatur perabot dan peralatan makmal. Hasil dapatan dianalisis menggunakan kaedah peratusan, skor min dan sisihan piawai. Daripada hasil kajian dan perbincangan, dapatan yang diperolehi menunjukkan bahawa majoriti responden bersetuju bahawa rekabentuk ruang dan susunatur perabot dan peralatan makmal tersebut telah disediakan dengan baik bagi memboleh aktiviti pengajaran dan pembelajaran dilaksanakan dengan berkesan, fleksibel dan selesa. Diharapkan hasil kajian ini dapat diguna pakai dalam ruang makmal perpaipan pada masa akan datang
Aligning intact and damage stability in a multi-level-assessment framework
Against the background of using the Index of Subdivision as a reference to address the safety level of ships when damaged, following primarily collision incidents, the EC-funded FLARE project is making inroads towards a direct assessment of flooding risk, which is ship, operating environment, and accident-type specific by addressing all the underlying elements, using a two-level approach; level 1 being semi-empirical with risk models informed through a newly composed accident database and level 2 with flooding risk, in the form of Potential Loss of Life, calculated from first principles, using time-domain flooding simulation tools and evacuation analyses in pertinent emergencies. In addition to addressing all accident types and modes of loss, the FLARE framework and methodology target active and passive measures of risk prevention and control, hence with application potential to both newbuildings and existing ships as well as facilitate real-time flooding risk evaluation for risk monitoring and effective control in emergencies. A key objective of the FLARE project is to provide the technical basis and a proposal for the revision of relevant IMO regulations towards a risk-based approach to contain and control flooding emergencies. The paper provides a complete example of one cruise ship and one RoPax where levels 1 and 2 of flooding risk evaluation are presented and discussed, and a summary of results for a further 8 sample ships from Project FLARE, leading to conclusions on the progress made and recommendations for the way forward
Rare familial 16q21 microdeletions under a linkage peak implicate cadherin 8 (CDH8) in susceptibility to autism and learning disability
Background: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterised by impairments in social communication and by a pattern of repetitive behaviours, with learning disability (LD) typically seen in up to 70% of cases. A recent study using the PPL statistical framework identified a novel region of genetic linkage on chromosome 16q21 that is limited to ASD families with LD. Methods: In this study, two families with autism and/or LD are described which harbour rare >1.6 Mb microdeletions located within this linkage region. The deletion breakpoints are mapped at base-pair resolution and segregation analysis is performed using a combination of 1M single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) technology, array comparative genomic hybridisation (CGH), long-range PCR, and Sanger sequencing. The frequency of similar genomic variants in control subjects is determined through analysis of published SNP array data. Expression of CDH8, the only gene disrupted by these microdeletions, is assessed using reverse transcriptase PCR and in situ hybridisation analysis of 9 week human embryos. Results: The deletion of chr16: 60 025 584-61 667 839 was transmitted to three of three boys with autism and LD and none of four unaffected siblings, from their unaffected mother. In a second family, an overlapping deletion of chr16: 58 724 527-60 547 472 was transmitted to an individual with severe LD from his father with moderate LD. No copy number variations (CNVs) disrupting CDH8 were observed in 5023 controls. Expression analysis indicates that the two CDH8 isoforms are present in the developing human cortex.
