Optimizing qubit Hamiltonian parameter estimation algorithms using PSO
We develop qubit Hamiltonian single parameter estimation techniques using a
Bayesian approach. The algorithms considered are restricted to projective
measurements in a fixed basis, and are derived under the assumption that the
qubit measurement is much slower than the characteristic qubit evolution. We
optimize a non-adaptive algorithm using particle swarm optimization (PSO) and
compare with a previously-developed locally-optimal scheme.Comment: 3 pages, 2 figures, presented at 2012 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary

Characterization of a qubit Hamiltonian using adaptive measurements in a fixed basis
We investigate schemes for Hamiltonian parameter estimation of a two-level
system using repeated measurements in a fixed basis. The simplest (Fourier
based) schemes yield an estimate with a mean square error (MSE) that decreases
at best as a power law ~N^{-2} in the number of measurements N. By contrast, we
present numerical simulations indicating that an adaptive Bayesian algorithm,
where the time between measurements can be adjusted based on prior measurement
results, yields a MSE which appears to scale close to \exp(-0.3 N). That is,
measurements in a single fixed basis are sufficient to achieve exponential
scaling in N.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, 1 table. Published versio
Scaling Separability Criterion: Application To Gaussian States
We introduce examples of three- and four-mode entangled Gaussian mixed states
that are not detected by the scaling and Peres-Horodecki separability criteria.
The presented modification of the scaling criterion resolves this problem. Also
it is shown that the new criterion reproduces the main features of the scaling
pictures for different cases of entangled states, while the previous versions
lead to completely different outcomes. This property of the presented scheme is
evidence of its higher generality.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figure
Frank-Condon principle and adjustment of optical waveguides with nonhomogeneous refractive indices
The adjustment of two different selfocs is considered using both exact
formulas for the mode-connection coefficients expressed in terms of Hermite
polynomials of several variables and a qualitative approach based on the
Frank-Condon principle. Several examples of the refractive-index dependence are
studied and illustrative plots for these examples are presented. The connection
with the tomographic approach to quantum states of a two-dimensional oscillator
and the Frank-Condon factors is established.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, published version (layout of figures changed,

Prospects for the management of diabetic neuropathy
Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is one of the most common chronic complications of diabetes mellitus leading to deterioration of the patientsquality of life. Effective methods for the treatment of DPN and improvement of both quality of life and long-term prognosis of the disease remain tobe developed. To review pathogenetic mechanisms of DPN, the known methods of DPN treatment and the influence of activation of PPAR-alpha receptors onpathogenesis and outcome of DPN

STRENGTH OF NANOMODIFIED HIGH-STRENGTH LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETES
The paper presents the results of research aimed at development of nanomodified high-strength lightweight concrete for construction. The developed concretes are of low average density and high ultimate compressive strength. It is shown that to produce this type of concrete one need to use hollow glass and aluminosilicate microspheres. To increase the durability of adhesion between cement stone and fine filler the authors offer to use complex nanodimensinal modifier based on iron hydroxide sol and silica sol as a surface nanomodifier for hollow microspheres. It is hypothesized that the proposed modifier has complex effect on the activity of the cement hydration and, at the same time increases bond strength between filler and cement-mineral matrix. The compositions for energy-efficient nanomodified high-strength lightweight concrete which density is 1300…1500 kg/m³ and compressive strength is 40…65 MPa have been developed. The approaches to the design of high-strength lightweight concrete with density of less than 2000 kg/m³ are formulated. It is noted that the proposed concretes possess dense homogeneous structure and moderate mobility. Thus, they allow processing by vibration during production. The economic and practical implications for realization of high-strength lightweight concrete in industrial production have been justified
Complex Processing of Phosphogypsum - a Way of Recycling Dumps with Reception of Commodity Production of Wide Application
The article analyzes the information on modern developments in the utilization of phosphogypsum. Only a few directions give the prospect of large-scale use of both freshly formed phosphogypsum and phosphogypsum accumulated in dumps. Under the conditions of the Russian Federation, it is promising to use phosphogypsum for the production of building materials, as well as for agriculture, for reclamation of soil and the creation of mounds of a certain type. The possibility of using phosphogypsum as a raw material for obtaining rare-earth elements is shown
Methodology of History
