Mini Max Wallpaper
Mini Max company formulated a problem for the automatic calculation of the number of wallpaper rolls necessary for decorating a room with wallpaper. The final goal is the development of a web-based calculator open for use to both Mini Max staff and the general public. We propose an approach for reducing the studied problem to the one-dimensional cutting-stock problem. We show this in details for the case of plain wallpapers as well as for the case of patterned wallpapers with straight match. The one-dimensional cutting-stock problem can be formulated as a linear integer programming problem. We develop an approach for calculating the needed number of wallpapers for relatively small problems, create an algorithm in a suitable graphical interface and make different tests. The tests show the efficiency of the proposed approach compared with the existent (available) wallpapers’ calculators
Traditional Eastern European diet and mortality: prospective evidence from the HAPIEE study
PURPOSE: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cancer mortality rates in Eastern Europe are among the highest in the world. Although diet is an important risk factor, traditional eating habits in this region have not yet been explored. This analysis assessed the relationship between traditional dietary pattern and mortality from all-causes, CVD and cancer in Eastern European cohorts. METHODS: Data from the Health, Alcohol and Psychosocial factors in Eastern Europe prospective cohort were used, including participants from Russia, Poland and the Czech Republic. Based on food frequency questionnaire data, we constructed an Eastern European diet score (EEDS) from nine food groups which can be considered as traditional in this region. The relationship between categorical (low, moderate, high) and continuous (range 0-18) EEDS and mortality was estimated with Cox-regression. RESULTS: From 18,852 eligible participants, 2234 died during follow-up. In multivariable adjusted models, participants with high adherence to the traditional Eastern European diet had significantly higher risk of all-cause (HR 1.23; 95% CI 1.08-1.42) and CVD (1.34; 1.08-1.66) deaths compared to those with low adherence. The association with cancer mortality was only significant in Poland (high vs. low EEDS: 1.41; 1.00-1.98). From the specific EEDS components, high consumption of lard was significantly positively related to all three mortality outcomes, while preserved fruit and vegetable consumption showed consistent inverse associations. CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that traditional eating habits may contribute to the poor health status, particularly the high CVD mortality rates, of populations in Eastern Europe. Infarct size following loading with ticagrelor/prasugrel versus clopidogrel in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction
Abstract
Background
Treatment with newer direct-acting anti-platelet drugs (Ticagrelor and Prasugrel) prior to primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is associated with improved clinical outcome in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) when compared with Clopidogrel.
Purpose
We retrospectively compared infarct size following non-randomized treatment with
Ticagrelor/Prasugrel versus Clopidogrel in a population of STEMI patients treated with primary PCI.
Methods
Patients were loaded with Clopidogrel, Ticagrelor or Prasugrel in the ambulance before primary PCI. Infarct size and myocardial salvage index were calculated using cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) during index admission and at three-month follow-up.
Results
693 patients were included in this analysis. Clopidogrel was given to 351 patients and Ticagrelor/Prasugrel to 342 patients. The groups were generally comparable in terms of baseline and procedural characteristics. Median infarct size at three-month follow-up was 12.9% vs 10.0%, in patients treated with Clopidogrel and Ticagrelor/ Prasugrel respectively (p&lt;0.001), and myocardial salvage index was 66% vs 71% (p&lt;0.001). Results remained significant in a multiple regression model (p&lt;0.001).
Conclusion
Pre-hospital loading with Ticagrelor or Prasugrel compared to Clopidogrel, was associated with smaller infarct size and larger myocardial salvage index at three-month follow-up in patients with STEMI treated with primary PCI.

XEN® Gel Stent compared to PRESERFLO™ MicroShunt implantation for primary open-angle glaucoma:two-year results
Purpose To evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of two minimally invasive glaucoma surgery implants with a subconjunctival drainage approach: the XEN45 Gel Stent® (Xen) implant and the PRESERFLO™ MicroShunt (MicroShunt). Methods Retrospective comparative case series of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) patients with at least 6 months of follow-up after a MicroShunt or Xen implantation augmented with mitomycin C. Results Forty-one eyes of 31 patients underwent Xen implantation, and 41 eyes of 33 patients, MicroShunt implantation. Baseline characteristics were similar, except for more combined surgeries with phacoemulsification in the Xen group (37% vs. 2%). Mean baseline IOP ± standard deviation dropped from 19.2 ± 4.4 to 13.8 ± 3.8 mmHg (n = 26) in the Xen group and from 20.1 ± 5.0 to 12.1 ± 3.5 (n = 14) in the MicroShunt group at 24 months of follow-up (p = 0.19, t-test). The number of IOP-lowering medications dropped from 2.5 ± 1.4 to 0.9 ± 1.2 in the Xen group and from 2.3 ± 1.5 to 0.7 ± 1.1 in the MicroShunt group. The probability of qualified success was 73% and 79% at 24 months of follow-up for the Xen and MicroShunt groups, respectively. Postoperative complications were usually mild and self-limiting. The number of bleb needling and secondary glaucoma surgery procedures was similar in both groups; however, in the Xen group more additional MicroPulse® transscleral cyclophotocoagulation procedures were performed. Conclusion Xen Gel Stent and PreserFlo MicroShunt implantations achieved comparable results in POAG eyes in terms of IOP-lowering and surgical success, with a similar high safety profile
