Alaska’s Judicial Retention Elections: A Comparative Analysis
The results of recent judicial retention elections in Alaska, and the recent increase in political activities related to judicial selection in Alaska and many other states, have given rise to concerns about the fates of future Alaska retention candidates. This Article analyzes the results of retention elections nationwide and suggests that there may be good reason for Alaska judges to be worried. Baseline levels of voter support for retention candidates in most of Alaska are among the lowest in the country, and have gradually been declining over time. In addition, Alaskan voters have targeted individual judges for removal more frequently than voters in most other states. This Article’s analysis indicates that ensuring the retention of competent Alaska judges in the future requires more than simply improving the effectiveness of pro-retention campaigns for individual candidates, and that understanding and addressing deeply held voter attitudes must be part of a more comprehensive effort

Results from MAGIC Observations of Extragalactic Relativistic Sources
The Major Atmospheric Gamma-ray Imaging Cherenkov (MAGIC) experiment is an
array of two 17-meter telescopes located in the Canary Island of La Palma that
observes the very-high energy (VHE) gamma-ray sky in stereoscopic mode since
2009. MAGIC is distinguished by its low-energy threshold of approximately 50
GeV, which grants the system a unique potential in the study of distant
extragalactic sources whose gamma-ray emission is significantly attenuated due
to absorption by the extragalactic background light (EBL). The observation of
non-thermal gamma rays in the GeV-TeV range from extragalactic sources is a
characteristic signature of their relativistic nature and therefore
fundamentally important for our understanding of the physics of these objects.
Since the beginning of its stereo operation, MAGIC has observed a large number
of active galactic nuclei (AGN) of different classes, including several blazars
and distant quasars. In this paper we will review some of the most important
results of these observations.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, Observational Review talk given at HEPRO-III

The Unconstitutionality of Consolidated Planning Boards: Interlocal Planning Under New York Law
This Article will examine the nature and constitutionality of consolidated planning boards in light of the broad powers actually granted them. The issues surrounding the constitutionality of consolidated planning boards begs, yet again, Chief Justice Marshall\u27s question respecting the extent of the power granted to the state governments. The question is whether a municipality may abdicate its power to regulate land within its own boundaries by delegating it to a separate planning entity
