The Addiction of Sultan Qaboos University Students to Social Networking Sites (SNS)

The present study aimed at identifying the prevalence of addiction of SNS among the students of Sultan Qaboos University, analyzing the most common symptoms of SNS addiction among them, and determining the categories which are most vulnerable to addiction to SNS. The study sample consisted of 237= 67% females and 33% males. The Alpha Cronbach coefficient for the SNS scale was 0.92, while for its three dimensions: emergence and relapse 0.85, endurance and conflict 0.81, mood adjustment and withdrawal 0.81. The results showed that the prevalence of SNS addiction among university students reached 21.1%. Endurance and conflict were the most common symptoms of SNS addiction among students. The multiple variance tests revealed that there were no significant differences among university students in terms of SNS addiction related to gender, while there were significant differences among them related to number of usage hours, GPA, and household income level

Factors Affecting the Reluctance to Pursue Teaching as a Career from the Perspective of Students in the Sultanate of Oman: A mixed-approach Investigation

هدفت الدراسة الحالية إلى الكشف عن العوامل المؤثرة في عزوف الطلبة عن مهنة التدريس بسلطنة عمان. استخدمت الدراسة المنهج المختلط، حيث تم جمع البيانات الكمية من خلال مقياس العوامل المؤثرة على اختيار مهنة التدريس بعد تعريبه وتكييفه لمجتمع الدراسة المكون من طلبة الصفوف 10-12 (ن= 3455)، أما البيانات النوعية فقد تم جمعها من خلال مجموعات النقاش البؤرية مع طلبة هذه الصفوف (ن= 253). أشارت النتائج إلى أن العوامل المؤثرة في عزوف الطلبة عن مهنة التدريس تمحورت حول: صعوبة المهنة، وقلة حوافزها المادية، وتدني المكانة الاجتماعية لها مقارنة بالمهن الأخرى، بينما بينت نتائج مجموعات النقاش البؤرية وجود آراء إيجابية وسلبية للمهنة، ووجود تحديات أبرزها: صعوبة التعامل مع عدد كبير من الطلبة، وتوقف ترقيات المعلمين، وتعيين المعلمين بعيدا عن أماكن إقامتهم. كما بين أغلبية طلبة المدارس من الجنسين بأنه ليس لديهم الرغبة والاتجاه الإيجابي لاختيار التدريس كمهنة المستقبل. كما أشارت نتائج الدراسة المتعلقة بالفروق بين الجنسين إلى وجود فروق دالة إحصائيا لصالح الذكور في العزوف عن مهنة التدريس

The Effect of Using Instructional Games in Teaching Career Culture to Tenth Grade Students at South Batina Governorate in Oman

This study aimed to test the effect of using instructional games in teaching career culture to tenth grade students. The sample of this study consisted of 66 female students enrolled in Asia bint Mozahem Basic School, South Batina Governorate. This sample was devided into two groups: the experimental group (N=33), and the control group (N=33). The first group learned through normal instruction styles, while the other group learned through instructional games.The results revealed that there were statistically significant differences in the career culture achievement between the two groups in favor of the experimental group
