    Fine copy of a work on the birth and death of the Prophet, perhaps compiled by Aḥmad ibn al-Maghribī. Added title on 'title page' would indicate this once accompanied another work.Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 212Origin: As appears at close on p.37, composed and or copied by Aḥmad ibn al-Maghribī. Date of transcription not indicated. Paper suggests 15th or 16th century.Former shelfmark: "238 T...[?]" inscribed in pencil on verso of front flyleaf ; "136" inscribed in pencil on 'title page' (p.9).Binding: Pasteboards covered in textured paper (painted in shades of gold, red, orange, green, etc.) with red leather over spine and edges/turn-ins ; Type III binding (without flap) ; pastedowns and flyleaves (made endpapers) in shell marbled paper (blue and brown) ; upper and lower covers bear gold-painted border ; sewn in red thread, two stations ; worked chevron endbands in light green and yellow, intact ; overall in fair condition with some abrasion, staining, etc.Support: non-European (likely Arab) laid paper with chain lines grouped in threes, 9-11 mm. between the chains and 39-42 mm. between the groups, heavy and thick ; added leaves in European laid paper with 10-11 laid lines per cm., chain lines spaced 27 mm. apart, and watermarks including spread eagle with 'T S C' below, coat of arms with lion rampant guardant and crown above.Decoration: Simple titlepiece on p.9 consisting of rectangular panel ruled in red carrying title, etc. in red and black ; headings and keywords rubricated ; textual dividers in the form of inverted commas (often three) or discs in red ; written area of incipit and facing page, as well as explicit and facing page, surrounded by red-rule border.Script: Naskh ; clear Egyptian or Syrian [?] hand ; virtually serifless, with many open counters, pointing in distinct dots, sweeping descenders, tapered rightward descenders, yāʼ of fī often mardūdah, kāf mashkūlah (mashqūqah) preferred with even final kāf bearing shaqq, alif maqṣūrah pointed as yāʼ, etc. ; fully vocalized.Layout: Written in 17 lines per page (written area occasionally divided to two columns to set off poetry) ; frame-ruled.Collation: i, 2 I(4), V (14), III (20), 2 I(24), i ; several blank added leaves preceding and following text ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (includes added leaves).Colophon: "وهذا ما انتهى الينا من وفات رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وشرف وكرم وزاده شرفا وكرما وتعظيما اللهم اغفر لمالك هذا الكتاب وكاتبه وقارئه وسامعه ومن كتب من اجله ولوالديهم وامواتهم واموات المسلمين اجمعين اللهم صلى على محمد واله وصحبه اجمعين والحمد لله رب العالمين خدمة العبد الفقير الى الله تعالى احمد بن المغربي"Explicit: "وكانت اول من لحق بالنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم من اهل بيته رضي الله عنها"Incipit: "الحمد لله المعروف بالكرم قبل وجود الوجود الموصوف بالكرم والفضل والجود والمنزه في وحدانيته عن الابناء والاباء والجدود ..."Title from titlepiece on p.9.Ms. codex.Fine copy of a work on the birth and death of the Prophet, perhaps compiled by Aḥmad ibn al-Maghribī.
