FE analysis and experimental determination of a shaft deflection under three-point loading
Increasing industrial demand for new products including advanced production technology leads to substantial natural resources consumption. Furthermore, huge environmental pollution and emerging environmental legislation motivate the machine tools industry as one of the major resource consumers on a global scale to develop methods for more sustainable use of the Earth's resources. Machine tools re-engineering concerning design and failure analysis is an approach by which outdated machines are upgraded and restored to like-new machines. To evaluate the mechanical failure of the used machine components and to ensure their reliable future performance, it is essential to make material, design, and surface investigations. In this paper, an experimental approach based on the principle of a three-point bending test is presented to evaluate the shaft elastic behavior under loading. Moreover, finite element analysis and numerical integration method are used to determine the maximum linear deflection and bending stress of the shaft. Subsequently, a comparison between the results is made. In conclusion, it was found that the measured bending deflection and stress were well close to the admissible design values. Therefore, the shaft can be used again in the second life cycle. However, based on previous surface tests conducted, the shaft surface needs re-carburizing and refining treatments to ensure the reliable performance of the surface
PostIB provides a product that should be able to provide a notification when a letter or package arrives at the recipient's mailbox. These notifications must be presented to the user at home. As products are not available on the Swedish market, the project plan was put together in the project group, where goals and requirements are defined. The work process began with a market analysis and a customer survey, to find out all possible solutions for this product. Through the customer survey, it was possible to find out what potential customers would like for features in products. The final report in the market analysis showed that existing products exist but lacked part of what the project group is looking for. PostIB platform was designed and developed in such a way where there is opportunity for further development. As the product is not like market competitors, this innovation is more adapted to the digitalized market. The project was divided into different phases to achieve a successful result of the product. A planning of how the work would proceed was carried out, where functions and algorithms were set up. The second part of the work was structure and construction. During this part, the project team had to make an evaluation of all sensors and implement the design phase. In the final phase of the project, all parts were joined together, where a final prototype was presented. The end result of the product resulted in a final functional prototype that can send a notification in the form of a signal to a receiver which in turn presents the signal graphically on a user interface. The prototype met the project group's expectations but had wanted to develop even more based on the group's preferences. These wishes were finally assessed as a project for further development
Concept development of a bicycle-pram based on an existing bicycle child seat
The report presents concept development of a bicycle-pram based on an existing bicycle child seat. The concept includes the function of being attached as a bicycle child seat but also the function of being pulled or pushed like a pram. In addition to these basic functions, the concept was given a storage function. In the concept development, consideration has been given to, among other things, material selection and ergonomics. The work has been based on fact-finding, market analysis and research of materials. Through iterative work together with a product development process, different concept ideas have been developed, of which one was chosen. The results are presented using rendered images on the 3D-modeled concept proposal to highlight the new components and functions. Static simulations have also been performed to detect deficiencies in construction and to be able to analyze how the concept can handle different forces

Digital Twins for Storage Systems and RAID Pools: Enhancing Data Management in High Energy Physics
In high-energy physics experiments, the acquisition of vast quantities of data poses formidable challenges in terms of efficient storage and management. We explore the application of the digital twin concept for SSD RAID pools, wherein digital replicas of physical systems are created to augment the efficiency of data storage within HEP experiments. By developing digital twins of storage systems, this research seeks to facilitate the continuous monitoring, comprehensive analysis, and strategic optimization of various workloads within the HEP domain. The key objectives of this study include the development of a digital twin for a data storage system and the formulation of generative models to assess the performance of the data storage system performance under specific configurations and data load parameters
Unveiling the complex structure-property correlation of defects in 2D materials based on high throughput datasets
Abstract Modification of physical properties of materials and design of materials with on-demand characteristics is at the heart of modern technology. Rare application relies on pure materials—most devices and technologies require careful design of materials properties through alloying, creating heterostructures of composites, or controllable introduction of defects. At the same time, such designer materials are notoriously difficult to model. Thus, it is very tempting to apply machine learning methods to such systems. Unfortunately, there is only a handful of machine learning-friendly material databases available these days. We develop a platform for easy implementation of machine learning techniques to materials design and populate it with datasets on pristine and defected materials. Here we introduce the 2D Material Defect (2DMD) datasets that include defect properties of represented 2D materials such as MoS2, WSe2, hBN, GaSe, InSe, and black phosphorous, calculated using DFT. Our study provides a data-driven physical understanding of complex behaviors of defect properties in 2D materials, holding promise for a guide to the development of efficient machine learning models. In addition, with the increasing enrollment of datasets, our database could provide a platform for designing materials with predetermined properties
