Effect of Dietary Linseed on Egg Quality of Laying Quail

Abstract: This experiment was performed to investigate the effect of dietary supplementation with linseed on egg quality of laying quail. A total of 320 Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) 9-wk old were allocated to 4 treatment groups with 4 replicates containing 20 quail each. Birds were fed commercial diet containing 0% (C), 2% (T1), 4% (T2) or 6% (T3) linseed. Birds received water and diet ad libitum during the total period of experiment. Egg quality characteristics were monitored over 3 consecutive 21-d periods. Egg quality criteria involved in this experiment were egg weight, yolk diameter, yolk height, yolk weight, albumen height, albumen weight, shell weight, shell thickness, Haugh unit, albumen percentage, yolk percentage and shell percentage. Results revealed that supplementing diet of laying quail with linseed resulted in significant increase in total means of egg weight, yolk diameter, albumen height, shell thickness, Haugh unit, albumen percentage and albumen weight. Total means of shell weight and yolk percentage were not significantly (p>0.05) different from quails consuming 0, 2, 4 or 6% linseed; However, total mean of shell percentage was reduced (p<0.05) in laying quails fed linseed when compared to control group. In conclusion, Feeding laying quails with different levels of linseed (2%, 4%, or 6%) caused significant improvement as regards most of egg quality parameters included in this experiment. Therefore, adding linseed to the ration could be used as a good tool for improving productive performance of Japanese quail

Hypercholesterolemia as a risk factor for coronary heart disease

Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a genetic disorder, an expression of a defect in the gene that is responsible for the production of LDL-C receptor. The current study was designed to determine the FH patients in the city of Sulaymaniyah for both sexes. The study included 213 samples, the number of males was 99 and the number of females was 114, both sexes ranged from (30-79) years.The results of cholesterol, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein (HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C) in patients with hypercholesterolemia showed highly significant (P ˂ 0.01) for cholesterol and the concentration level in patients with hypercholesterolemia compared to the level of concentration of healthy.As concerns the effect of hypercholesterolemia on coronary heart disease, the results showed a significant increase (P ˂ 0.01) in cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL-C with a significant decrease in HDL-C concentration in people with heart disease compared with healthy people. triglyceride in patients with compared healthy people. In this study, we report the synthesis of some new Schiff base compounds (1-5) from the reaction of amoxicillin with some aromatic aldehydes in classical Schiff base method. These derivatives were characterized by melting point, elemental analysis, FT-IR and 1H NMR data. All the synthesized compounds were evaluated in vitro for their antibacterial activities against two Gram positive (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus faecalis) and two Gram negative (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa) microorganisms in different concentrations (10-1, 10-3, 10-5 and 10-7 M) by agar diffusion disk method. Downregulation of NFAT2 promotes melanogenesis in B16 melanoma cells

Nuclear factor of activated T-cells (NFAT) proteins are, calcium-regulated transcription factors, key regulator of stimulation-dependent gene activation. In our microarray analysis for the genes expressed in human black and white hairs, NFAT2 was significantly upregulated in the white hair, compared to the black hair. The aim of this study was to investigate functional role of NFAT2 in melanogenesis. Western blot analysis was performed to investigate the expression of NFAT2 protein in B16 melanoma cells. Our data showed that NFAT2 expression was increased in the hypopigmented B16 cells, while tyrosinase and MITF expression was decreased. To investigate the potential role of NFAT2, the recombinant adenovirus expressing microRNA specific for NFAT2 was transduced into the cultured B16 melanoma cells. Consistently, inhibition of NFAT2 enhanced tyrosinase activity and melanin content. Moreover, cyclosporine A, which is known as a calcineurin inhibitor blocking NFAT activation, enhanced tyrosinase activity and melanin content. These data suggest that NFAT2 may play an important role in regulation of melanogenesis in melanocyte
