Determination of the QCD color factor ratio CA/CF from the scale dependence of multiplicity in three jet events
I examine the determination of the QCD color factor ratio CA/CF from the
scale evolution of particle multiplicity in e+e- three jet events. I fit an
analytic expression for the multiplicity in three jet events to event samples
generated with QCD multihadronic event generators. I demonstrate that a one
parameter fit of CA/CF yields the expected result CA/CF=2.25 in the limit of
asymptotically large energies if energy conservation is included in the
calculation. In contrast, a two parameter fit of CA/CF and a constant offset to
the gluon jet multiplicity, proposed in a recent study, does not yield
CA/CF=2.25 in this limit. I apply the one parameter fit method to recently
published data of the DELPHI experiment at LEP and determine the effective
value of CA/CF from this technique, at the finite energy of the Z0 boson, to be
1.74+-0.03+-0.10, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is
systematic.Comment: 20 pages including 6 figures Version 2 corrects typographical error

Comparison of the Geometrical Characters Inside Quark- and Gluon-jet Produced by Different Flavor Quarks
The characters of the angular distributions of quark jets and gluon jets with
different flavors are carefully studied after introducing the cone angle of
jets. The quark jets and gluon jets are identified from the 3-jet events which
are produced by Monte Carlo simulation Jetset7.4 in e+e- collisions at =91.2GeV. It turns out that the ranges of angular distributions of gluon jets
are obviously wider than that of quark jets at the same energies. The average
cone angles of gluon jets are much larger than that of quark jets. As the
multiplicity or the transverse momentum increases, the cone-angle distribution
without momentum weight of both the quark jet and gluon jet all increases, i.e
the positive linear correlation are present, but the cone-angle distribution
with momentum weight decreases at first, then increases when n > 4 or p_t > 2
GeV. The characters of cone angular distributions of gluon jets produced by
quarks with different flavors are the same, while there are obvious differences
for that of the quark jets with different flavors.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures, to be published on the International Journal of

Clan structure analysis and new physics signals in pp collisions at LHC
The study of possible new physics signals in global event properties in pp
collisions in full phase space and in rapidity intervals accessible at LHC is
presented. The main characteristic is the presence of an elbow structure in
final charged particle MD's in addition to the shoulder observed at lower c.m.

Single-photon signals at LEP in supersymmetric models with a light gravitino
We study the single-photon signals expected at LEP in models with a very
light gravitino. The dominant process is neutralino-gravitino production (e+e-
-> chi+ G) with subsequent neutralino decay via chi->gamma+G, giving a
gamma+E_miss signal. We first calculate the cross section at arbitrary
center-of-mass energies and provide new analytic expressions for the
differential cross section valid for general neutralino compositions. We then
consider the constraints on the gravitino mass from LEP 1 and LEP161
single-photon searches, and possible such searches at the Tevatron. We show
that it is possible to evade the stringent LEP 1 limits and still obtain an
observable rate at LEP 2, in particular in the region of parameter space that
may explain the CDF e+e+gamma+gamma+E_T,miss event. As diphoton events from
neutralino pair-production would not be kinematically accessible in this
scenario, the observation of whichever photonic signal will discriminate among
the various light-gravitino scenarios in the literature. We also perform a
Monte Carlo simulation of the expected energy and angular distributions of the
emitted photon, and of the missing invariant mass expected in the events.
Finally we specialize the results to the case of a recently proposed
one-parameter no-scale supergravity model.Comment: 31 pages, LaTeX, 14 figures (included
Forward-Backward Asymmetries in Hadronically Produced Lepton Pairs
It has now become possible to observe appreciable numbers of hadronically
produced lepton pairs in mass ranges where the contributions of the photon and
are comparable. Consequently, in the reaction , substantial forward-backward asymmetries can be seen. These
asymmetries provide a test of the electroweak theory in a new regime of
energies, and can serve as diagnostics for any new neutral vector bosons
coupling both to quarks and to charged lepton pairs.Comment: 11 pages, latex, 4 uuencoded figures sent separately, Fig. 2 revise
Questions and Remarks About Clans in Multiparticle Dynamics
The fact that several important effects in multiparticle dynamics, on which
QCD has not yet satisfactory predictions, have been interpreted in terms of the
validity of negative binomial (Pascal) regularity and related clan properties
at the level of simpler substructures, raises intriguing questions on clan
properties in all classes of collisions, the main one being whether clans are
observable objects or merely a mathematical concept. We approach this problem
by studying clan masses and rapidity distributions in each substructure for
e+e- annihilation and hh collisions, and find that such properties can indeed
characterise the different components. These results support the idea that
clans could be observable, a challenging problem for future experiments.Comment: 11 pages; 3 figures; latex 2e and amsmat
