Ongoing discussion about hydraulic fracturing has shown multiple views towards the values of hydraulic fracturing in modern society. These views question whether or not the possible future economic benefits and independence of energy outweigh the potential environmental risks. In order to provide insight upon the subject, research was conducted about the overall procedure of hydraulic fracturing, the economic and environmental implications. Furthermore, the laws that regulate hydraulic fracturing were assessed, along with the concerns of the public, and the alternative methods for hydraulic fracturing. With the accumulated research from these topics, it was concluded that with proper regulation, the economic benefits outweigh the environmental risks with regards to hydraulic fracturing
