Basketball has become especially popular, it is based on new technologies for the development of the science of sport more and more often and the success of athletes and coaches in basketball depends on lots of factors more and more often. One of the main factors is the interaction between the coach and athletes. Thus, coaches and athletes must understand each other in order to seek sport achievements. Taking into account these facts, the attitude of young basketball players and their coaches to the importance of abilities that are necessary for a real and ideal coach is analysed in the article. The questionnaire by T. Moser ,,Real and ideal coach“ that consists of 17 statements reflecting different abilities, which are important for the coach and his/her activity, was used in the research. 171 15–16 basketball players and 41 basketball coaches participated in the research and all the research participants were selected from the list of Lithuanian basketball sport schools randomly. The mean age of the basketball players was 15±1.28 and that of the coaches – 48±11.4. The results revealed the following abilities of coaches: proper communication, keeping friendly contacts with athletes, revelation of advantages and disadvantages of pupils were more important to the young basketball players statistically reliably than to the coaches in their self-assessment. However, the coaches indicate in the self-assessment it is more important to them to prepare a good training and have good knowledge of their sport statistically reliably than to the basketball players assessing their coaches. The basketball players have a slightly different image of their ideal coach: he/she should be an example to the athletes, create a good atmosphere and feeling in the team, discover and train talents and keep friendly contacts with the athletes. Meanwhile, the coaches think an ideal coach should first have a standing and influence in the implementation of ideas, be able to prepare a training well and be psychologically stable and self-confident

The main attention in the publication is paid to the competencies of physical education teachers for sport injuries and their prevention. The scientific newness is characterized by the felt lack of scientific works for the analysis of these issues. The sample of the research consisted of 126 physical education teachers (54 women (43 per cent) and 72 men (57 per cent). The teachers were also divided into groups according to the experience of pedagogical work: 57 teachers (45 per cent) had the pedagogical experience of up to 10 years and the pedagogical experience of 69 teachers (55 per cent) exceeded 10 years. For the revelation of this issue, the Questionnaire of the competencies of physical education teachers for injury prevention was used that had been compiled on the basis of scientific literature (Raižienė, 2014; Vercruysse et al., 2016). The data of the research showed most competencies of physical education teachers for sport injuries of students and their prevention differed statistically significantly depending on the gender among teachers and their pedagogical experience. Teachers with the pedagogical experience of up to 10 years state that students encounter injuries during their lessons more often. The direction of further research should be modelling of programs about the competencies in the field of injury prevention

Abstract Background The aim of our study was to determine how six mood indicators (vigour, fatigue, depression, anger, confusion, tension) depend on moderate to vigorous physical activity, walking time and sedentary time at work, after working hours and during leisure time, in men and women of different age groups. Methods A total of 1,140 individuals aged 18 to 64 years participated in the study. The participants were enrolled in this cross-sectional survey using a snowball sampling method. An online questionnaire was shared through popular social networks and emails within the period October 2019 to June 2020. Mood responses were assessed using The Brunel Mood Scale-LTU. Physical activity was assessed using the long International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Descriptive analysis, a two-way analysis of variance, and linear regression analysis were used to interpret the data. Results The survey results showed that vigour and fatigue correlated significantly only with leisure-time moderate to vigorous physical activity. The present results show a significant positive correlation between women and men moods and leisure-time moderate to vigorous physical activity, the length of time walking to work and back home, and negative correlation between moods and leisure-time sedentary behaviour. However, there was no significant correlation between moods and work-related moderate to vigorous physical activity and household moderate to vigorous physical activity, walking at work, and sitting duration at work. Conclusions This study provides theoretical implications of the physical activity paradox, justifying the benefits of moderate to vigorous physical activity practiced in different circumstances. According to the regression analysis, exercising men in all age groups moved the most (had a higher moderate to vigorous physical activity level) during leisure time, the highest work-related moderate to vigorous physical activity was observed in men and women with lower education, and the highest household moderate to vigorous physical activity was observed in older age men and women living in rural areas. Clinicians and leaders at all levels of health care should consider the greater importance of leisure-time physical activity for mental health when choosing the most targeted physical activity recommendations for mood profile improvement in men and women of different age groups
