Indo-US FTA: Prospects for the Telecommunication Sector
Since telecommunication is one of the main drivers of economic growth and globalization, WTO (World Trade Organization) negotiations and New Age FTAs (Free Trade Agreements) have focused on liberalizing trade in this sector. The present paper analyses the possibilities of liberalizing trade in telecommunication services if India and its largest trading partner-the US-enter into a bilateral agreement. The study found that India and the US have trade complementarities in telecommunication services and that it should be a priority sector in the FTA negotiations. The study identified certain areas such as R&D related to telecommunication and broadband infrastructure where collaboration between companies of both countries would be mutually beneficial. The study found that telecommunication services have been significantly liberalized in the US FTAs-much beyond the scope of the GATS and the Reference Paper on Basic Telecommunications. While the current policy regime in India is consistent with some of the requests made by the US in its bilateral negotiations, for meeting others, the policy regime needs to be examined and, if required, reformed. The present paper suggests certain reforms which would enhance the productivity, efficiency and global competitiveness of the sector and enable the country to benefit from the bilateral liberalization.Indo-US FTA, GATS, bilateral agreements, telecommunication, services
Indo-U.S. FTA - Prospects for Audiovisual Services
Many WTO (World Trade Organization) member countries, including India, are defensive about opening up of the audiovisual sector in the Doha Round due to reasons of cultural sensitivity. On the other hand, the United States is pushing for liberalizing trade in this sector both in the WTO and in its bilateral FTAs (Free Trade Agreements). With the slow progress of the Doha Round, India and the United States are exploring the possibilities of entering into FTAs with like-minded trading partners. In this context, the present paper discusses the prospects of liberalizing audiovisual services under a possible Indo-U.S. FTA. The study found that India and the United States have significant trade complementarities in this sector which can be further enhanced under an FTA. It identifies areas such as co-production of films, digital content creation and broadband infrastructure in which companies from India and the United States can enter into mutually beneficial collaborations. It argues that India should enter into a media cooperation agreement with the U.S. to facilitate the inflow of technical know, finance and best management practices. A Netnography of the Social Media Presence of Brand Netflix, India
Social media marketing is growing at a rapid pace. Marketers need to keep up with technology-savvy consumers and help the brands in reaching greater heights with the help of social media practices. This manuscript presents how an Over-the-Top platform like Netflix India uses social media as a digital tool for enhancing consumer engagement and building strong consumerbrand relationships using netnography as a tool. This manuscript further attempts to classify the content generated by Netflix India on its social media platforms- Instagram, Facebook, Twitter into diverse content typologies, identify the most significant content typology, and understand how the number of likes, comments, shares, retweets (in case of Twitter) relating to most significant content typology impacts the enhancement of consumer engagement amongst Netflix audience. Thereafter, the research study classifies the content generated by Netflix into three categories, namely- informational content, promotional content, and relational content. The study is further able to empirically illustrate how a greater number of likes, shares, comments, and retweets on relational content has a significant impact on consumer engagement of the brand Netflix

A cross sectional study of knowledge, attitude and practices of medical students regarding COVID-19 in Northern India
Background: Practicing preventive measures essential to control the spread of infection and possessing the required knowledge, attitude and practices (KAP) towards COVID-19 could possibly affect the behavior and perception of medical students towards the disease which must be observed and studied. Studies have been conducted to assess medical students’ willingness to volunteer in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but not many have focused on their level of pandemic preparedness and eligibility to volunteer. Our study explored the knowledge, attitude and practices of medical students, and also helps to develop effective action plans regarding the reopening of medical colleges in India.
Material and methods: This cross-sectional observational study was done in a tertiary care center in North India on Medical and Dental undergraduate students spanning across all professional years after they gave a written informed consent. A self-designed questionnaire was established based on published literature. The study questionnaire consisted of four sections - socio-demographics of students, knowledge, attitudes/beliefs and practice-based statements about COVID-19.
Results: 238 students participated in this study and for majority (79.4%) of students the major source of information for gaining knowledge towards COVID-19 was social media. All students were aware that COVID-19 spreads through droplet infection, 94.1% responded that people with chronic illnesses were at high-risk of infection and 91.2% and 88.2% reported that fever and dry cough were the main symptoms of COVID-19 respectively. The majority of students disagreed that they would avoid isolation (n=147), and the students also disagreed on aspect of keeping the report confidential if a near one is affected (n=140). Though there were no statistically significant differences (p<0.05) in the level of knowledge, attitude and practices found between students studying in different professional years.
Conclusion: To conclude, the results of our study showed that major source of information for gaining knowledge for COVID-19, was through social media. The students demonstrated a satisfactory level of knowledge, attitude and practices for the prevention of COVID-19
Evaluating the Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices of Healthcare Workers Regarding High-Risk Nosocomial Infections: A Global Cross-Sectional Study
BACKGROUND: Healthcare workers (HCWs) play a vital role in delivering care and are frequently exposed to the risk of acquiring infections within the hospital setting. Around 15% of hospitalized patients suffer from these infections globally. However, the role and awareness of HCWs in the transmission of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) or nosocomial infections is still unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the knowledge, attitude, and practices (KAP) toward high-risk microbial infections among HCWs on a global scale to identify measures to address this problem.
METHOD: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted between 2022 and 2023, with HCWs selected as the study population. Data concerning KAP were collected through a self-administered online survey questionnaire, using a nonprobability convenience sampling method. Descriptive statistics and regression analysis were used to analyze the data.
RESULTS: A total of 743 HCWs from various countries participated in the study, with the majority of respondents being doctors (64.9%). Data were mainly obtained from Saudi Arabia (26.78%), Iraq (25.84%), India (15.7%), the United States of America (15.2%), and Africa (Sudan, Nigeria) (13.98%). The frequency of good KAP scores among physicians (KAP: 82.5, 80.66, and 70.5), nurses (KAP: 74.1, 73.07, and 88.7), medical practitioners (KAP: 87.2, 77.58, and 75.1), and technicians (KAP: 76.1, 74.38, and 89.6) were obtained as mentioned. With respect to experience, HCWs showed good KAP scores in 1-5 years (KAP: 82.4, 83.3, and 74.1), 5-10 years (KAP: 80.6, 74.54, 83), 10-20 years (KAP: 74.7, 79.1, and 82.7), and \u3e20 years (KAP: 84.6, 78.8, and 82.8) categories.
CONCLUSION: This study suggests that HCWs have good KAP regarding infection prevention, but there is still room for improvement. Educational seminars and awareness programs can provide better adherence to barrier protection measures such as hand washing, use of gloves, and hand disinfection
