Unified modeling of familial mediterranean fever and cryopyrin associated periodic syndromes
Familial mediterranean fever (FMF) and Cryopyrin associated periodic syndromes (CAPS) are two prototypical hereditary autoinflammatory diseases, characterized by recurrent episodes of fever and inflammation as a result of mutations in MEFV and NLRP3 genes encoding Pyrin and Cryopyrin proteins, respectively. Pyrin and Cryopyrin play key roles in the multiprotein inflammasome complex assembly, which regulates activity of an enzyme, Caspase 1, and its target cytokine, IL-1 beta. Overproduction of IL-1 beta by Caspase 1 is the main cause of episodic fever and inflammatory findings in FMF and CAPS. We present a unifying dynamical model for FMF and CAPS in the form of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The model is composed of two subsystems, which capture the interactions and dynamics of the key molecular players and the insults on the immune system. One of the subsystems, which contains a coupled positive-negative feedback motif, captures the dynamics of inflammation formation and regulation. We perform a comprehensive bifurcation analysis of the model and show that it exhibits three modes, capturing the Healthy, FMF, and CAPS cases. The mutations in Pyrin and Cryopyrin are reflected in the values of three parameters in the model. We present extensive simulation results for the model that match clinical observations
Bibliometric Analysis of the Published Studies on the Kindling Model between 1980 and 2023
Objective: Kindling is an animal model of epilepsy induced by electrical stimulation of the brain. The present study aimed to present a different perspective with a bibliometric approach by using the literature data on the “Kindling model” related keywords in the Web of Science (WoS) online database between 1980 and 2023.
Methods: The bibliometric data were obtained from the online database WoS and analyzed and visualized with the VoS Viewer Program. The bibliometric datasets were analyzed and visualized regarding article productivity numbers according to years, article productivity numbers according to countries, the most used keywords according to authors, and cross-country cooperation.
Result: Considering the results of the analysis of the published datasets, 2022 was determined as the year with the highest article productivity, and an acceleration was observed in the publication increase rate on the subject in general. When the order of the countries in the top three in the number of article productivity was examined, the USA, Germany, and Japan are the main countries, respectively. The most used keywords by the authors were determined as “Epilepsy”, “Kindling”, and “Hippocampus”. In the cooperation among countries, it was found that the USA, Germany, and Japan had more cooperation with other countries, respectively.
Conclusıon: This study will contribute to the literature by providing a detailed understanding of the research basis, relevant research results, current research boundaries and main research focus in the Kindling Model
Giant endometrial polyp protruding from the external cervical os in a postmenopausal woman: magnetic resonance imaging and hysteroscopic findings
Endometrial polyps are most commonly seen in the postmenopausal women with uterine bleeding, although the giant polyps which originate from the uterine cavity and protruding from the cervical os are rare. Several cases which have been described in the literature are usually developed secondary to tamoxifen use, and the polyps do not extend or protrude from the external cervical os. Most of the polyps protruded from the cervical os can mimic a cervical neoplasia or endocervical polyp. We report the case of a giant endometrial polyp (8x4x3 cm in size) which was protruding from the external cervical os and that developed spontaneously without tamoxifen use in a multiparous 73 -year-old woman presenting with vaginal bleeding. Hysteroscopic polypectomy was performed and no recurrence was seen at 6 months after surgery. Diagnosis, management and outcome of this rare entity have been discussed according to the literature
Coexistence of postpartum cardiomyopathy and single coronary artery anomaly
Postpartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is dilated cardiomyopathy seen in the postpartum period in women who no prior history of cardiac diseases. In this case study, coronary angiography was used to determine the etiology of the cardiomyopathy after the decompensated heart failure had regressed. A congenital single coronary artery anomaly was detected by coronary angiography. In this case, PPCM can mimic pneumonia, thus making diagnosis difficult. When there is no response to antibiotic therapy, the obstetrician must consider cardiac disease and appropriate consultation should be obtained as soon as possible. To the best of our knowledge, single coronary artery anomalies coexisting with PPCM has only been documented in one other case in the literature. An association of single coronary artery anomalies with PPCM may be random, or, alternative, might contribute to the composition of the PPCM

Baykan Sezer as the possibility of native sociology
Sezer, Kemal Tahir’den etkilenerek sosyoloji biliminin merkezine
tarihselliği koyarak Doğu-Batı ikilemi içerisinde Türk toplumunu anlamaya çalışmış, Türk
sosyolojisinde yerlilik üzerinde durmuştur. Bu çalışmada Türk sosyolojisinin bir imkânı olarak
Sezer’in görüşleri ele alınacaktır.In the 19th century, sociology emerged with the efforts to solve the problems in the West. Sociology
has been used instrumentally for the new social problems that emerged in the West, the search for
order against these problems and the solution of the problems of legitimacy of world sovereignty.
Sociology emerged as a product of the West's own internal dynamics. But in our country, Sociology
presented as a prescription for the problems of Turkish society by taking the recipes developed
against the problems of the West. However, Turkish sociology did not consist entirely of this imitator
and transporter approach. One of the original / local contributions in this direction is Baykan Sezer.
Sezer pointed out the necessity of building a, Turkish Sociology that is appropriate to the conditions
of the Turkish society, by taking and evaluating our problems within the framework of East-West
relations and conflict, explaining our social structure and establishing a relationship with our
tradition of thought and our history. Sezer, influenced by Kemal Tahir, tried to understand the
Turkish society and its problems within the East-West dilemma by putting historicity in the center
of sociology. The study will try to discuss the views of Sezer as an opportunity of Turkish sociology
A rare entity bilateral first rib fractures accompanying bilateral scapular fractures
First rib fractures are scarce due to their well-protected anatomic locations. Bilateral first rib fractures accompanying bilateral scapular fractures are very rare, although they may be together with scapular and clavicular fractures. According to our knowledge, no case of bilateral first rib fractures accompanying bilateral scapular fractures has been reported, so we herein discussed the diagnosis, treatment, and complications of bone fractures due to thoracic trauma in bias of this rare entity
Importance of Grass Carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) for Controlling of Aquatic Vegetation
Aquatic plants are beneficial and a necessary part of lakes and reservoirs. Also, some kind of plants are the main food source for aquatic animals. Plants are able to stabilize sediments, improve water clarity and add diversity to the shallow areas of lakes. On the other hand, overgrown plants can become a nuisance by hindering human uses of water and threaten the structure and function of diverse native aquatic ecosystems. This chapter aims to make analysis of using of grass carp to control aquatic vegetation. In this concept, origin and distribution, biological features, reproduction, feeding behaviour and effects of grass carp on aquatic plants, water body and sediments are also discussed
