    A STUDY ON LITERACY AND USAGE BEHAVIOUR OF CREDIT CARDS USERS IN INDIA

    Purpose of the study: This study aims to find credit card literacy (henceforward CCL) and credit card usage behavior (henceforward CCUB) in India. Methodology: A survey was conducted on 400 respondents who were using a credit card in India. The questionnaire used for collecting data consisted of three sections; demographic information, CCL, and CCUB. To check the CCL, the customers were asked to rate their awareness of the terms and conditions of the credit card providers, while CCUB was measured using five questions. Main findings: CCL is found to be 34% and the results of logistic regression show that CCL and demographic factors influence the CCUB. Implications of this study: An understanding of the CCUB will be helpful in controlling excessive debt and high-interest payments. Novelty/Originality of this study: This paper gives a unique insight into CCL and CCUB in India

    A Study of the Entrepreneurial Constrains in the Indian Manufacturing Sector

    Promotion of entrepreneurship has been recognized world over as key to accelerate the economic development of a region. India also continues to take steps to directly or indirectly promote entrepreneurship. This paper attempts to find out the constraints being faced by entrepreneurs in the Indian manufacturing sector. For this study the entrepreneurs have been classified as per their gender, region, age and education. This study also highlights the steps that can be taken to overcome the various types of constraints being faced by such entrepreneurs.     Influence of demographic factors on the entrepreneurial intentions of university students in Oman

    This paper aims to examine the relationship of four critical demographic factors, namely, Father’s occupation, Gender, Experience and Level of education on the entrepreneurial intention of Omani university students. The study uses a structured questionnaire to conduct a survey which is administered to the students of Dhofar University. The data collected are analyzed and it is found that there is a high level of intentions among students to start entrepreneurial ventures. Moreover, demographic factors are found to be influencing the entrepreneurial intention. Among the demographic factors experience is found to have the maximum influence on the entrepreneurial interest. The results suggest a need to provide students with on job training for gaining experience along with their educational programs. As an increase in experience will lead to a higher entrepreneurial intention of students and thus the likelyhood of a student becoming an entrepreneur will increase.     Private Equity and its Role in the Development of the Indian Manufacturing Sector

    Manufacturing sector accounts for only 16% of GDP in India, while in China it is around one third of its GDP. Also the share of Indian manufacturing in the worldwide markets is dismal at 1.4%, while China it is now 13% from just 2.9% in 1990s. India also aspires to have such growth in its manufacturing sector. Growth of manufacturing sector is vital due to its multiplier effect on economy and employment. Every job created in the manufacturing sector creates two-three additional jobs in related activities. The aim of the Indian National Manufacturing Policy (2011) is to create to 100 million jobs and increase the share of manufacturing in GDP to 25% by 2022. Private Equity as financial intermediaries improves the allocation of resources from the investors and also provides various types of managerial assistance to industry enabling make them to be more competitive. This paper emphasizes the role that can be played by Private equity in the development of Indian manufacturing sector.
