A Privacy Preserving Framework for RFID Based Healthcare Systems

    Get PDF
RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) is anticipated to be a core technology that will be used in many practical applications of our life in near future. It has received considerable attention within the healthcare for almost a decade now. The technology’s promise to efficiently track hospital supplies, medical equipment, medications and patients is an attractive proposition to the healthcare industry. However, the prospect of wide spread use of RFID tags in the healthcare area has also triggered discussions regarding privacy, particularly because RFID data in transit may easily be intercepted and can be send to track its user (owner). In a nutshell, this technology has not really seen its true potential in healthcare industry since privacy concerns raised by the tag bearers are not properly addressed by existing identification techniques. There are two major types of privacy preservation techniques that are required in an RFID based healthcare system—(1) a privacy preserving authentication protocol is required while sensing RFID tags for different identification and monitoring purposes, and (2) a privacy preserving access control mechanism is required to restrict unauthorized access of private information while providing healthcare services using the tag ID. In this paper, we propose a framework (PriSens-HSAC) that makes an effort to address the above mentioned two privacy issues. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first framework to provide increased privacy in RFID based healthcare systems, using RFID authentication along with access control technique

Observation of chaotic beats in a driven memristive Chua's circuit

In this paper, a time varying resistive circuit realising the action of an active three segment piecewise linear flux controlled memristor is proposed. Using this as the nonlinearity, a driven Chua's circuit is implemented. The phenomenon of chaotic beats in this circuit is observed for a suitable choice of parameters. The memristor acts as a chaotically time varying resistor (CTVR), switching between a less conductive OFF state and a more conductive ON state. This chaotic switching is governed by the dynamics of the driven Chua's circuit of which the memristor is an integral part. The occurrence of beats is essentially due to the interaction of the memristor aided self oscillations of the circuit and the external driving sinusoidal forcing. Upon slight tuning/detuning of the frequencies of the memristor switching and that of the external force, constructive and destructive interferences occur leading to revivals and collapses in amplitudes of the circuit variables, which we refer as chaotic beats. Numerical simulations and Multisim modelling as well as statistical analyses have been carried out to observe as well as to understand and verify the mechanism leading to chaotic beats.Comment: 30 pages, 16 figures; Submitted to IJB

The purpose of this research study is to check the overall job satisfaction associate with demographic factors: Gender, Age, Ethnicity, Civil Status, Experience, Educational Qualification and Bank Types in Ampara region government and private bank employees. To collect required data for this research study 180 questionnaires were personally administered among the respondents and received only 105 questionnaires which indicate the 58.33% response of the respondents. Simple random sampling method was used to select the sample. The appropriate statistical tests: Reliability test, Principle Component Analysis, Independent Samples t-test and ANOVA test were used to analyse collected data. The independent sample t-test result reveals that, there is a significant different between gender and type of bank job satisfaction whereas there is no different between civil status job satisfaction. Male employees have more job satisfaction than female employees and also private bank employees have more job satisfaction than government bank employees. Furthermore, ANOVA result concludes that, there is no significant different between age, ethnicity, educational qualification and year of experience and job satisfaction

The factors influence on average weighted prime lending rate (AWPLR) of Commercial Banks an empirical perspective in Sri Lankan context

The purpose of this study is to identify the factors affecting Average Weighted Prime Lending Rate (AWPLR) of Commercial Banks in Sri Lanka. It could also ascertain the factors which have significantly contributed to the high level of lending interest rates currently prevailing in the market. Many factors affect the Average Weighted Prime Lending Rate, of which the researcher identified and tested three variables based on operating commercial banks in Sri Lanka. Inflation, Average Weighted Deposit Rate (AWDR) and Statutory Reserve Ratio (SRR) were tested for the purpose this research

BackgroundCobalt oxide nanoparticles (Co(3)O(4)NPs) are increasingly recognized for their utility in biological applications, magnetic resonance imaging, and drug delivery. However, little is known about the toxicity of Co(3)O(4)NPs in human cells.MethodsWe investigated the possible mechanisms of genotoxicity induced by Co(3)O(4)NPs in human hepatocarcinoma (HepG2) cells. Cell viability, reactive oxygen species (ROS), glutathione, thiobarbituric acid reactive substance, apoptosis, and DNA damage were assessed in HepG2 cells after Co(3)O(4)NPs and Co(2+) exposure.ResultsCo(3)O(4)NPs elicited a significant (P < 0.01) reduction in glutathione with a concomitant increase in lipid hydroperoxide, ROS generation, superoxide dismutase, and catalase activity after 24- and 48-hour exposure. Co(3)O(4)NPs had a mild cytotoxic effect in HepG2 cells; however, it induced ROS and oxidative stress, leading to DNA damage, a probable mechanism of genotoxicity. The comet assay showed a statistically significant (P < 0.01) dose- and time-related increase in DNA damage for Co(3)O(4)NPs, whereas Co(2+) induced less change than Co(3)O(4)NPs but significantly more than control.ConclusionOur results demonstrated that Co(3)O(4)NPs induced cytotoxicity and genotoxicity in HepG2 cells through ROS and oxidative stress

The objective of the proposed work is to investigate the performance of hybrid self tuned fuzzy proportional integral derivative (STFPID) controller for brushless DC (BLDC) motor drive. The proposed hybrid STFPID controller includes a proportional integral derivative (PID) controller at steady state, a PID type self tuned fuzzy logic (FL) controller (STFLC) at transient state thereby combining the merits of both the controllers. The switching function incorporated in the controller ensures desired control response at various operating conditions by appropriately switching between PID and STFPID based on speed error. A detailed simulation study and performance comparison with other control approaches is performed to highlight the merits of the proposed work. The simulation results indicate that the proposed controller is robust with fast tracking capability and less steady state error. The experimental results are provided to validate the simulation study.Cilj ovog rada je istražiti performance hibridnog samopodešavajućeg regulatora za bezkolektorski istosmjerni motor. Predloženi hibridni samopodešavajući fuzzy regulator uključuje PID regulator u stacionarnom stanju i samopodešavajući fuzzy PID regulator (STFLC) za vrijeme trajanja prijelazne pojave kombinirajući prednosti oba regulatora.
