Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Project Management: a Stakeholders Perspective

Get PDF
Construction projects are becoming much more complex and difficult to manage. As a response Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has been developing at a very fast pace. The major shift in ICT for the Architecture Engineering and Construction (AEC) sector is the spreading of Building Information Modeling (BIM) (Bryde, Broquetas, & Volm, 2013). BIM is a system and its main objective is the managing of the information and because of that it is also a project management matter. Our research work is originated from the understanding of the managerial relationship gap between the two realities of BIM and project management. In particular this paper aims at addressing this gap from a specific perspective: stakeholders. Stakeholder management is one of the most important project critical success factors, as project success highly depends on stakeholders\u27 satisfaction. The goal is relevant for both practitioners and educators. The exploration is done mainly through the literature review, but it is also strongly supported by the collection of primary data. The second source regards direct interviews to a portfolio of stakeholders of the AEC industry, e.g. project managers, architects, BIM experts, software resellers, building developer owners, innovation managers. The findings regard the classification of the key stakeholders in BIM adoption and the contextual situation in the different European countries, with particular focus on the role of the Governments

IntroductionAdolescents and young adults represent a vulnerable population in the context of the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The present retrospective study aims to investigate the pandemic's psychological impact on adolescents and young adults by analyzing data from an outpatient mental health service dedicated to youths in Umbria, central Italy. Materials and MethodsThe clinical charts of subjects aged 14-24 who first accessed the service in the timeframe between March 1st, 2019, and February 28th, 2021, were reviewed. Subjects were divided into two subgroups according to the period of time when they accessed the service (pre-COVID-19 vs. during- COVID-19 outbreak). Bivariate analyses were performed using the Chi-square test and the Welch's t-test. A secondary analysis was performed considering only subjects suffering from psychiatric disorders. Furthermore, data concerning individuals who were already followed by the service before the pandemic were analyzed by the McNemar's test and the t-paired test to assess changes in treatment features. ResultsThe number of new accesses during the pandemic period remained stable. After the emergency onset, youths accessing the service showed a higher prevalence of anxiety disorders (p = 0.022). During the COVID-19 period, services were more frequently delivered by using a digital mental health approach (p = 0.001). Psychopharmacological treatment was more frequently prescribed among subjects that were referred to the service after the pandemic onset (p = 0.033). As for substance use, a highly significant reduction in opioid use was observed (p = 0.003). Family therapy was delivered less frequently in the during-COVID-19 subgroup, especially in the subpopulation of subjects suffering from psychiatric disorders (p = 0.013). When considering subjects referred to the service in the pre-COVID-19 period, the number of interventions provided to this population increased after the pandemic outbreak (p = 0.038). ConclusionIn the context of the COVID-19-related public health crisis, youths represent an at-risk population for which pathways to care should be reinforced, and targeted interventions, including psychosocial treatments, should be implemented

Background: The present study investigates the impact of the Coronavirus diseases 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic on the subjective experience of pregnant women, as well as the impact of the pandemic on this population in terms of psychopathological correlates. Subjects and methods: Pregnant women referring to the Section of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the General Hospital of Perugia, Italy, were recruited from 1st May, 2021 to 15th June, 2021. Socio-demographic and clinical data was collected, as well as information regarding the Covid-19 pandemic impact on the subjective experience of pregnancy. Psychopathology was evaluated by means of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory Form Y (STAI-Y), the Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90) and the Prenatal Distress Measure (Pre-DM). Descriptive analyses were performed. Significant associations between distress symptoms and the collected sociodemographic and clinical variables were assessed by using the Pearson correlation (p<0.05). Results: 25 women were included in the study. Among these, 18 (72%) reported that the Covid-19 pandemic negatively impacted their experience of pregnancy. Were detected an average Pre-DM total score of 7.28±4.33 and an average state anxiety scale value of 35.56+-9.21 and an average trait anxiety scale value of 34.04+-7.44 at the STAI-Y. A global severity index > 1 at SCL-90 was detected in 8.3% of the sample. Conclusions: The identification of antepartum distress and the early treatment of perinatal psychopathology represent a priority during the Covid-19 pandemic era

Stakeholder management (SM) in megaprojects was established as one of four working groups within the Megaproject COST Action. The critical importance of stakeholder management in megaprojects was identified in the first phase of the COST Action‘s research by case studies. It was obvious that stakeholder have huge impact on the performance of megaprojects. Thus, this working group started with the focus on this specific aspect of megaproject management. Thereby, the focus was aligned with the overall aim of the COSTAction: "
to understand how megaprojects can be designed and delivered more effectively to ensure their effective commissioning within Europe. Effective design and delivery means not only insuring that the megaproject is delivered on-time and to budget but that it satisfies the societal and commercial needs that motivated its creation and that it continues to do so throughout its entire life-cycle

Molecular Approach for the Laboratory Diagnosis of Periprosthetic Joint Infections

Get PDF
The incidence of total joint arthroplasty is increasing over time since the last decade and expected to be more than 4 million by 2030. As a consequence, the detection of infections associated with surgical interventions is increasing and prosthetic joint infections are representing both a clinically and economically challenging problem. Many pathogens, from bacteria to fungi, elicit the immune system response and produce a polymeric matrix, the biofilm, that serves as their protection. In the last years, the implementation of diagnostic methodologies reduced the error rate and the turn-around time: polymerase chain reaction, targeted or broad-spectrum, and next-generation sequencing have been introduced and they represent a robust approach nowadays that frees laboratories from the unique approach based on culture-based techniques

Viral Population Heterogeneity and Fluctuating Mutational Pattern during a Persistent SARS‐CoV‐2 Infection in an Immunocompromised Patient

Get PDF
Literature offers plenty of cases of immunocompromised patients, who develop chronic and severe SARS‐CoV‐2 infections. The aim of this study is to provide further insight into SARS-CoV‐2 evolutionary dynamic taking into exam a subject suffering from follicular lymphoma, who developed a persistent infection for over 7 months. Eight nasopharyngeal swabs were obtained, and were analyses by qRT‐PCR for diagnostic purposes. All of them were considered eligible (Ct < 30) for NGS sequencing. Sequence analysis showed that all sequences matched the B.1.617.2 AY.122 lineage, but they differed by few mutations identifying three genetically similar subpopulations, which evolved during the course of infection, demonstrating that prolonged replication is paralleled with intra‐host virus evolution. These evidences support the hypothesis that SARS‐CoV‐2 adaptive capacities are able to shape a heterogeneous viral population in the context of immunocompromised patients. Spill‐over of viral variants with enhanced transmissibility or immune escape capacities from these subjects is plausible

Progressive right ventricular dysfunction and exercise impairment in patients with heart failure and diabetes mellitus: insights from the T.O.S.CA. Registry
