The influence of cross-generation attitude on halal food products

    Get PDF
The term ‘halal’ has been used as a tool by most food industries to attain competitive advantage. Nevertheless, the increase in demand for halal food products may be stunted due to the lack of awareness from the consumers, especially the younger generation. Young consumers may take halal issues lightly. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify the influence of cross-generation (namely Generation X, Y and Z) attitude on halal food products. Data were collected from 410 respondents in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia through an online survey. The data were analysed using SPSS for descriptive statistics and one-way ANOVA. The results indicated variances in cross-generation attitude towards halal food products. The study outcomes are beneficial for manufacturers in producing halal food products based on their intended group of consumers. Further study should look into determining the factors that may influence cross-generation attitudes on halal food products

It becomes a norm for many organizations to use social network as a platform for internal and external communication means. Due to its extensive usage, most large organizations recognize the importance of capturing disseminated information across the social networks for the benefit of their internal perusal. However, managing and keeping track of all the information which are hidden in the piles of comments are hard to deal with. This paper presents a system that can extract, analyze and visualize information from the comments. As for the case study, Facebook is chosen due to its ability to allow people to comment freely and repetitively. The comments were extracted from selected post in Facebook using its API. The relationship between the words inside the comments will then be determined by using relationship table. Then, a visualization technique, word-forest, is used to visualize the relation between the prepared table. The prototype is tested by using selected posts in specific Facebook accounts. The result shows that users can quickly get overviews on the topics that have been discussed without having to go through all the comments on the Facebook. The system has great potential to be further explored as one of the means to get internal and external workers or public perception unobtrusively at real-time and real-life setting

Variable speed compressor offers a wider range of cooling capacity control according to the cooling load of the system. The on/off controller consumes larger energy as the compressor is always working at maximum speed despites the cooling load and continuously on and off to prevent from over cool the room. This study focused on the implementation of variable speed compressor to increase energy efficiency with better temperature control inside the room for split unit air conditioning system. The experiments are done at room temperature of 23 and 24°C with internal heat load of 500 and 1000 W. Monitoring system is applied to monitor the room temperature, energy consumption, energy saving and coefficient of performance. The proposed system indicates as much 37% of energy saving as compared to on/off controller

Gratitude, gratitude intervention and well-being in Malaysia

    Get PDF
Gratitude has generally been neglected by psychologists due to the emphasis on the medical model. A dearth of research on gratitude in Malaysia was the main impetus for these studies. Study 1 compared the gratitude scores Malaysian Malays against the US, UK, China and Japan, along an individualist-collective continuum, and results showed Malays had lower gratitude scores than the others, except for the Japanese. To increase their gratitude scores, Study 2 carried out an intervention using ‘the three good things’ exercise on 59 students over a period of 14 days. The intervention increased gratitude and life satisfaction as well as reduced distress. Furthermore, a hierarchical regression examining the effect of gratitude on well-being controlling for measures of affect and religiosity at Time 1, showed that Time-2 gratitude was only predictive of Time-2 distress. The results are discussed with respect to the collectivist culture of the Malays where negative aspects of the self are valued as a form of self-criticism to help one to constantly improve oneself. Two main implications are noted: that there are cross-cultural differences in the way gratitude is understood and expressed in the Malay culture, and that engaging in positive activity may sometimes be counterproductive to well-being

    Get PDF
This study aims to investigate the memory performances of graphene as a charge storage layer in the floating gate with difference doping concentration of n-channel and p-channel substrates using Silvaco ATLAS TCAD Tools. The simulation work has been done to determine the performance of flash memory in terms of memory window, P/E characteristics and data retention and have been validated with the experimental work done by other researchers. From the simulation data, the trend of memory window at low P/E voltage is nearly overlapped between simulation and experimental data. The memory window at ±20V P/E voltage for n-channel and p-channel flash memory cell are 15.4V and 15.6V respectively. The data retention for the n-channel flash memory cell is retained by 75% (from 15.4V to 11.6V) whereas for the p-channel flash memory cell is retained by 80% (from 15.6V to 12.5V) after 10 years of extrapolation with -1/1V gate stress which shows that p-channel flash memory cell demonstrates better data retention compared to n-channel flash memory cell

A study of computational fluid dynamics has been conducted to study the characteristics of the heat transfer and friction factor of Al2O3/Ethylene glycol-water nanofluid flowing inside flat tube. The three dimensional realizable k?e turbulent model with an enhanced wall treatment was utilized. The evaluation of the overall performance of the tested tube was predicated on the thermo-hydrodynamic performance index. The obtained results showed that the difference in behaviour depending on the parameter that has been selected to compare the nanofluid with the base fluid. In addition, the friction factor and the heat transfer coefficient increases with an increase of the nanoparticles volume concentration at the same Reynolds number. The penalty of pressure drop is negligible with an increase of the volume concentration of nanoparticles. Conventional correlations that have been used in turbulent flow regime to predict average heat transfer and friction factor are Dittus-Boelter and Blasius correlations, for tubes are also valid for the tested nanofluids which consider that the nanofluids have a homogeneous fluid behaviour

Effect of laser surface modification on SS316L surface roughness and laser heating temperature

Nowadays, stainless steel is widely used in laser processing applications, including laser heating, laser brazing, and laser welding. However, it has poor optical properties due to low laser energy absorption. However, this could be improved with the aid of laser surface modification (LSM). The significance of this work is to examine the influence of LSM laser power on the surface roughness of 316L stainless steel samples. First, the LSM laser power was varied from 15 to 27 W. Then, the surface topography and variation of the surface roughness values were examined by using a 3D optical microscope. Furthermore, the modified surface by LSM will be heated using laser radiation in order to analyze the effect of surface roughness towards laser heating temperature. The result revealed that as the LSM power increased, thereby resulting in an increase of surface roughness. The highest LSM laser power (27 W) produced the highest surface roughness with 28.98 μm. Experimental results illustrate that the heating temperature were increased 36%, corresponding to a polished flat reference surface, which indicates the increment in energy absorptivity

Temperature Variation Operation of Mixed-VT 3T GC-eDRAM for Low Power Applications in 2Kbit Memory Array

Embedded memories were once utilized to transfer information between the CPU and the main memory. The cache storage in most traditional computers was static-random-access-memory (SRAM). Other memory technologies, such as embedded dynamic random-access memory (eDRAM) and spin-transfer-torque random-access memory (STT-RAM), have also been used to store cache data. The SRAM, on the other hand, has a low density and severe leakage issues, and the STT-RAM has high latency and energy consumption when writing. The gain-cell eDRAM (GC-eDRAM), which has a higher density, lower leakage, logic compatibility, and is appropriate for two-port operations, is an attractive option. To speed up data retrieval from the main memory, future processors will require larger and faster-embedded memories. Area overhead, power overhead, and speed performance are all issues with the existing architecture. A unique mixed-V_T 3T GC-eDRAM architecture is suggested in this paper to improve data retention times (DRT) and performance for better energy efficiency in embedded memories. The GC-eDRAM is simulated using a standard complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) with a 130nm technology node transistor. The performance of a 2kbit mixed-V_T 3T GC-eDRAM array were evaluated through corner process simulations. Each memory block is designed and simulated using Mentor Graphics Software. The array, which is based on the suggested bit-cell, has been successfully operated at 400Mhz under a 1V supply and takes up almost 60-75% less space than 6T SRAM using the same technology. When compared to the existing 6T and 4T ULP SRAMs (others' work), the retention power of the proposed GC-eDRAM is around 80-90% lower
