    Reaction of 2-acetylbenzoimidazole 1 with some arylaldehydes under different conditions gave chalcones, 1,5-pentanediones and pyridines. Treatment of chalcones with various types of reagents gave the corresponding new pyridines, thienopyridines, pyrido[2,3:4\u27,5\u27]thieno[3\u27,2\u27-d]- pyrimidin-8-ones via initial addition of active methylene or amino group to the double bond followed by cyclization.Reakcija 2-acetilbenzoimidazola s nekim arilaldehidima pod razli~itim uvjetima daje halkon, 1,5-pentandione i piridine.     An efficient technique for out-of-band power reduction for the eliminated CP-STC-shaped system for 5G requirements

    The most dominant needs for the recent wireless mobile applications are higher bandwidth (BW) efficiency, higher energy efficiency higher quality of services (QOS). The main technique in 4G systems is OFDM but it suffers from some limitations such as large peak to average power ratio (PAPR), higher Out-of-Band (OOB) power radiation, and wasting bandwidth efficiency due to cyclic prefix (CP) extension. In his paper, these OFDM limitations will be reduced with low computational complexity compared to filter bank multicarriers (FBMC). The proposed scheme is based on symbol time compression (STC) for OFDM system. The proposed STC-Shaped system is achieved via interleaver-spreader and symbol shaper in the transmitter side in addition to equalization and combining processes in the receiver side. Comparative study between the proposed system and the conventional OFDM in case of additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and COST 207 typical multipath fading channel will be presented. The numerical results show that the proposed STC-Shaped scheme reduces OOB significantly. The proposed scheme improves BER in multipath Rayleigh fading although it is without CP. Thus, the proposed system is more robust against inter symbol interference (ISI) compared to conventional OFDM system. Also, the numerical results show that the PAPR of the proposed system is decreased significantly and also, it is derived theoretically. Also, the proposed scheme overcomes CP extension, and hence increases the bandwidth (BW) efficiency. Finally, the computational complexity for the proposed scheme is derived and it has very low complexity compared to FBMC. The system performance measurments has been fulfilled using cumulative distribution function (CDF), power spectral density (PSD) and bit error rate (BER)

    Acute Upper Gastro-Intestinal Bleeding in Morocco: What Have Changed?

    Objective. In the present study, we aimed to investigate epidemiological, clinical, and etiological characteristics of acute upper gastro-intestinal bleeding. Materials and Methods. This retrospective study was conducted between January 2003 and December 2008. It concerned all cases of acute upper gastroduodenal bleeding benefited from an urgent gastro-intestinal endoscopy in our department in Morocco. Characteristics of patients were evaluated in terms of age, gender, medical history, presenting symptoms, results of rectal and clinical examinations, and endoscopy findings. Results. 1389 cases were registered. As 66% of the patients were male, 34% were female. Mean age was 49. 12% of patients had a history of previous hemorrhage, and 26% had a history of NSAID and aspirin use. Endoscopy was performed in 96%. The gastroduodenal ulcer was the main etiology in 38%, followed by gastritis and duodenitis in 32.5%. Conclusion. AUGIB is still a frequent pathology, threatening patients' life. NSAID and aspirin are still the major risk factors. Their impact due to peptic ulcer remains stable in our country

    Utjecaj fluniksina na uklanjanje i dinamiku rezidua oksitetraciklina u mlijeku mliječnih pasmina koza

    This research assessed the impact of flunixin meglumine (FM) co-administration on the elimination and milk residual properties of oxytetracycline (OTC) in dairy goats. OTC was administered via single intravenous (i/v) and intramuscular (i/m) injections at a dose of 10 mg/kg body mass (b.m.). Serum, urine, milk and ruminal juice were analysed using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The OTC serum concentrations were higher than the MIC for 12 hours against most susceptible pathogens in both groups. The half-lives of the distribution (T1/2α) and elimination (T1/2β) of OTC were 0.24 and 5.79 hours, respectively. The total body clearance was significantly increased in the FM coadministered groups. Following i/m injection, the absorption half-life (T1/2ab) with the maximum absorption time (Tmax) revealed a rapid absorption rate. Furthermore, the systemic bioavailability (F%) after i/m was 107.2%, indicating complete absorption from the muscular tissues. The bounded fraction of OTC with serum proteins was 18.73%. FM significantly decreases OTC concentration in milk and ruminal juice. OTC is eliminated primarily through the kidneys and to a lesser extent via milk and ruminal juice in dairy goats. Milk obtained from OTC treated goats may not be safe for human consumption two days post administration. Concomitantly, the use of FM with OTC may necessitate the surveillance and optimization of OTC dosage.Istražen je utjecaj fluniksina-meglumina (FM) na uklanjanje i rezidualna svojstva oksitetraciklina (OTC) u mlijeku mliječnih pasmina koza. OTC je dan jednokratno intravenski i intramuskularno u dozi od 10 mg/kg tjelesne mase. Serum, urin, mlijeko i buražni sok analizirani su tekućinskom kromatografijom visoke učinkovitosti (HPLC). Koncentracije OTC u serumu bile su tijekom 12 sati više od najmanje inhibitorne koncentracije za najosjetljivije patogene u objema skupinama. Vrijeme polurazgradnje OTC-a (T1/2α) bilo je 0,24 sata, a vrijeme uklanjanja (T1/2β) 5,79 sati. Vrijeme potpunog uklanjanja OTC-a statistički znakovito je poraslo u skupinama kojima je istodobno dan i fluniksin-meglumin. Nakon intramuskularne injekcije poluvijek apsorpcije (T1/2ab) s maksimalnim vremenom apsorpcije (Tmax) pokazao je veću brzinu apsorpcije. Osim toga sistemska bioraspoloživost (F %) nakon intramuskularne primjene bila je 107,2 % što upućuje na potpunu apsorpciju iz mišićnih tkiva. Dio OTC-a vezan na serumske proteine iznosio je 18,73 %. Fluniksin-meglumin statistički znakovito je smanjio koncentracije OTC-a u mlijeku i buražnom soku. OTC je uklonjen ponajprije putem bubrega i, u manjoj mjeri, mlijekom i buražnim sokom u mliječnih pasmina koza. Mlijeko dobiveno od koza kojima je davan OTC nije prikladno za upotrebu u ljudi do dva dana nakon primjene. Istodobna primjena FM-a s OTC-om može zahtijevati praćenje i optimizaciju OTC doze

    The Qatar Biobank: background and methods

    Background: The Qatar Biobank aims to collect extensive lifestyle, clinical, and biological information from up to 60,000 men and women Qatari nationals and long-term residents (individuals living in the country for ≥15 years) aged ≥18 years (approximately one-fifth of all Qatari citizens), to follow up these same individuals over the long term to record any subsequent disease, and hence to study the causes and progression of disease, and disease burden, in the Qatari population. Methods: Between the 11th-December-2012 and 20th-February-2014, 1209 participants were recruited into the pilot study of the Qatar Biobank. At recruitment, extensive phenotype information was collected from each participant, including information/measurements of socio-demographic factors, prevalent health conditions, diet, lifestyle, anthropometry, body composition, bone health, cognitive function, grip strength, retinal imaging, total body dual energy X-ray absorptiometry, and measurements of cardiovascular and respiratory function. Blood, urine, and saliva were collected and stored for future research use. A panel of 66 clinical biomarkers was routinely measured on fresh blood samples in all participants. Rates of recruitment are to be progressively increased in the coming period and the recruitment base widened to achieve a cohort of consented individuals broadly representative of the eligible Qatari population. In addition, it is planned to add additional measures in sub-samples of the cohort, including Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of the brain, heart and abdomen. Results: The mean time for collection of the extensive phenotypic information and biological samples from each participant at the baseline recruitment visit was 179 min. The 1209 pilot study participants (506 men and 703 women) were aged between 28–80 years (median 39 years); 899 (74.4 %) were Qatari nationals and 310 (25.6 %) were long-term residents. Approximately two-thirds of pilot participants were educated to graduate level or above. Conclusions: The pilot has proven that recruitment of volunteers into the Qatar Biobank project with intensive baseline measurements of behavioural, physical, and clinical characteristics is well accepted and logistically feasible. Qatar Biobank will provide a powerful resource to investigate the major determinants of ill-health and well-being in Qatar, providing valuable insights into the current and future public health burden that faces the country.Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development and the Supreme Council of Healt

    The endorsement of cognitive distortions: comparing child pornography offenders and contact sex offenders

    This study examined the endorsement of cognitive distortions in child pornography offenders (CPOs), using an established assessment tool, the Abel and Becker Cognition Scale. The scale was expanded to include cognitions specific to child pornography offending, extracted from Howitt and Sheldon’s Children and Sexual Activities Inventory (C&SA). Three samples of CPOs, child sex offenders and offenders with both offence types responded to the cognition items. An exploratory Principal Component Analysis suggested six main components of the scale. CPOs were significantly less likely to endorse these statements in general, and this was more pronounced on items that project blame onto the child or other people, describe a need for power and consider children as sexually active. The statements extracted from C&SA did not differentiate between the groups. These findings are discussed under consideration of the relationship between cognitive distortions and contact sex offending, and in reference to the general criticism concerning the definition and appropriate measurement of cognitive distortion

    LE TRAITEMENT CHIRURGICAL DE L’ ANGIODYSPLASIE DUODENALE SURGICAL TREATEMENT OF DUODENAL ANGIODYSPLASIA

    Management of angiodysplasia is usually based on endoscopic therapies. Surgical treatement is required in massive bleeding and when the others procedures failed. However the duodenal seat and diffuse lesions remains a challenging problem. We present two patients with duodenal angiodysplasia who underwent cephalic duodenopancreatectomy. Both patients had good follow-up. We justify our choice which is unusual by the duodenal seat, diffuse and symptomatic lesions and recurrent hemorrhage.Le traitement de l’angiodysplasie fait   habituellement appel aux méthodes endoscopiques. Le recours à la chirurgie s’impose devant une hémorragie massive ou en cas d’échec des autres thérapeutiques .Toutefois le siège duodénal et le caractère diffus des lésions angiodysplasiques rendent difficile la décision thérapeutique. Nous présentons deux cas d’angiodysplasie duodénale traités chirurgicalement. Le geste a consisté en une duodénopancréatectomie céphalique .Les suites immédiates et à distance étaient simples. Nous justifions notre choix thérapeutique qui reste exceptionnel par le siège duodénal des lésions, leur caractère symptomatique et durable ainsi que leur nombre élevé

    Chemical Profile of Cyperus laevigatus and Its Protective Effects against Thioacetamide-Induced Hepatorenal Toxicity in Rats

    Cyperus species represent a group of cosmopolitan plants used in folk medicine to treat several diseases. In the current study, the phytochemical profile of Cyperus laevigatus ethanolic extract (CLEE) was assessed using UPLC-QTOF–MS/MS. The protective effect of CLEE at 50 and 100 mg /kg body weight (b.w.) was evaluated on hepatorenal injuries induced by thioacetamide (100 mg/kg) via investigation of the extract’s effects on oxidative stress, inflammatory markers and histopathological changes in the liver and kidney. UPLC-QTOF–MS/MS analysis of CLEE resulted in the identification of 94 compounds, including organic and phenolic acids, flavones, aurones, and fatty acids. CLEE improved the antioxidant status in the liver and kidney, as manifested by enhancement of reduced glutathione (GSH) and coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), in addition to the reduction in malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO), and 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine (8OHdG). Moreover, CLEE positively affected oxidative stress parameters in plasma and thwarted the depletion of hepatorenal ATP content by thioacetamide (TAA). Furthermore, treatment of rats with CLEE alleviated the significant increase in plasma liver enzymes, kidney function parameters, and inflammatory markers. The protective effect of CLEE was confirmed by a histopathological study of the liver and kidney. Our results proposed that CLEE may reduce TAA-hepatorenal toxicity via its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties suppressing oxidative stress
