    Aim of the project was the exploration of fundamentals for an effectively NIR-radiation source for the generation of steady pulses in the range of nanoseconds. Therefore investigations with new laser-crystals and crystal dotations were carried out. Making use of new Q-switches (FTIR), the repetition rate and pulse energy could be increased and the pulse duration was decreased. For the effective NIR-Lasersysteme new medical applications are given in the wave length region of 2-3 #mu#m.     Aesculap Meditec carried out fundamental research in development of laser-sources, fiber coupling and transmission of light-energies with fiber-optics. Special points of sight were the selection of characteristic values, optimization of stability, reproducibility and minimization of losses in light-transmission.     Aim of the project was the development of an operation-environment for minimal-invasive diagnostic and therapy in the human brain. A modular trokar-system with different functions was built-on. Through the trokars deflectable surgery instruments such as micro-shears and micro-tongs can be brought forward. The development of the micro-instruments was part of the project. After that investigations for the manufacturing of micro-lenses with LIGA- and shape-techniques as well as a fluidic concept to steer the endoscope-tip were carried through.     The development of materials for implants, which degrades in the human body after a defined time without any residue, is the object of current research- and development projects. The aim of the project 'Osteosynthese' was the exploration of resorbable materials and the development of optimised manufacturing methods for the production of materials with high mechanical stability and controlled degradation-features for implants. During the project the mechanical- and degradation-features for resorbable materials could be improved essential. The improvements were realised because of combinations of materials and the use of cold-stretching-technique.     A stereoendoscopic system for clinical purpose is described which comprises the components stereoendoscope, ccd camera, head recorder and/or 3D monitor. Prototypes have been constructed and tested. Advantages of the system are an excellent depth effect and a small size of the endoscope.
