Energy-aware routing protocols in wireless sensor networks

    Get PDF
Saving energy and increasing network lifetime are significant challenges in the field of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). Energy-aware routing protocols have been introduced for WSNs to overcome limitations of WSN including limited power resources and difficulties renewing or recharging sensor nodes batteries. Furthermore, the potentially inhospitable environments of sensor locations, in some applications, such as the bottom of the ocean, or inside tornados also have to be considered. ZigBee is one of the latest communication standards designed for WSNs based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. The ZigBee standard supports two routing protocols, the Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV), and the cluster-tree routing protocols. These protocols are implemented to establish the network, form clusters, and transfer data between the nodes. The AODV and the cluster-tree routing protocols are two of the most efficient routing protocols in terms of reducing the control message overhead, reducing the bandwidth usage in the network, and reducing the power consumption of wireless sensor nodes compared to other routing protocols. However, neither of these protocols considers the energy level or the energy consumption rate of the wireless sensor nodes during the establishment or routing processes. (Continues...)

This study explores the effect of self-healing concrete in existing buildings and its crucial impact in terms of sustainability, permanence, and access to the internal strength of concrete in order to contribute to the process of protecting the internal parts of the building from the reinforcing steel structure as well as prevent the internal corrosion of iron reinforcement. This study also highlights the market growth side of the cement sector for self-healing products and access to growth in markets from (24 to 26%). Self-healing concrete technology is an advanced technology with self-healing compound. It allows for the repair of small cracks that affect the structure, which contributes to the support of the building to repair and rehabilitate the building. It also helps in repairing internal cracks without any financial costs. Compound prepares to spread when cracks occur and when reaching an appropriate environment in order to work to rehabilitate cracks. In the coming years, as growth thrives in order to reach the purchasing power in a prosperity in the cement sector, which improves internal and external investment and increases in attracting investors in the cement sector. The study aims to reach scientific research of high quality and it specializes in studying the United Kingdom market and the prosperity of self-healing concrete in the cement sector. Moreover, it contributes to the prosperity of self-healing products because of their contribution in reducing the financial costs that are under the building maintenance and rehabilitation department. This study also contributes to studies in the United Kingdom, which resulted from the impact of the cement market that will probably flourish and grow in the coming years. The researcher suggests that the development of the self-healing concrete will be reflected in the cement sector, which will be a reason for improving and developing self-healing concrete that will spread in sectors other than the cement industry

Reducing the transmission and reception powers in the AODV

The transmission power and the reception power are the main source of energy consumption in wireless sensor nodes. Therefore, reducing the amount of consumed power through the transmission and reception processes in the routing protocol will lead to an increase in the lifetime of the wireless sensor network and distribute the consumed power among the wireless sensor nodes. This paper proposes a mechanism to reduce the transmission and reception power for the frequently used nodes. This proposed techniques and a hybrid technique with the power consumption distribution technique in have been compared to the original Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol. Simulation results based on NS-2 showed that the hybrid technique and the proposed mechanism have better performance than the original AODV routing protocol. The new mechanism and the hybrid technique have increased the lifetime of the wireless sensor network by around 40%, and 70% respectively

Using cloud computing services to enhance competitive advantage of commercial organizations

Using advanced technology in business has created hyper-competition among organizations to satisfy customers' needs. Using advanced technology aims to provide customers with quality products/services at suitable prices in the right place better than competitors. Therefore, the current study's purpose is to explore the influence of cloud computing services on Jordanian commercial organizations’ competitive advantages, organizations which use cloud computing services. The study uses quantitative, cause-effect, and cross-sectional methods and uses a convenience sampling approach to collect the data by questionnaire from 111 managers and/or owners of commercial organizations. The collected questionnaires are examined and inserted into SPSS. The instrument validity, normal distribution, and reliability are verified, then descriptive analysis is performed, the relationship between independent and dependent variables is tested, and finally multiple regressions are used to test the hypotheses. The findings indicate that commercial organizations are concerned about cloud computing services as well as competitive advantage sub-variables. The results also show that there was a significantly strong correlation between cloud computing services and competitive advantage. Moreover, cloud computing services influence the dimensions of competitive advantages (quality, cost, reliability, innovation, and responsiveness) of commercial organizations, where cloud computing services have the most significant influence on quality followed by cost and responsiveness, respectively. However, cloud computing services do not significantly influence innovation and reliability. Finally, the study recommends doing comparable research on other sectors, and industries as well as in other countries to test the results' generalizability
