Passengerā€™s Satisfaction on Long Distance Terminals: Case Study City of Zagreb

    Get PDF
Every city has one or more long distance terminals for domestic or international transport. Usually, long distance terminal are connected to the city transport network (metro, tramway, buses, car or bike sharing, and private car) and can be unimodal or multimodal terminals. From the passengersā€™ perspective multimodal terminals are much more convenient and preferred. In the last decade terminals across Europe have developed not only in transport function, but also in hospitality management (bars, restaurants, accommodationā€¦). Today, terminals have also developed into shopping areas, so they are attracting more and more people. Nevertheless, we must not neglect the primary function of a terminal: transport start/stop point for passengers. The focus group of a terminal is passengers. For day-to-day operation, but also for the development of terminal itā€™s crucial to make regularly surveys about passenger satisfaction. This paper will present the results of passenger satisfaction survey in the long distance terminal in the City of Zagreb. The City of Zagreb is the capital of the Republic of Croatia, one of the 28 member states of the European Union. It is interesting that Zagreb has two unimodal long distance terminals, one for railways and the second one for buses. Therefore, the transfer passengers have practical problems when they change modes of transport for long distance travel. Passengers in both terminals have been interviewed. The survey for both terminals has the same question, so a comparative analysis could be done

    Get PDF
The planning and organisation of public passenger transport in rural areas is a complex process. The transport demand in rural areas is often low, which makes it hard to establish and run a financially sustainable public transport system. A solution is integrated passenger transport that eliminates deficiencies and provides benefits for all participants in the public passenger transport process. This paper describes the impact of integrated passenger transport on mobility in rural areas and critically evaluates different literature sources. Integration of passenger transport in urban areas has been described in the context of rural areas, and the challenges of integration of public passenger transport specific to rural areas have been analysed. Through the application in urban and rural areas, the planning of integrated and non-integrated passenger transport has been functionally analysed. The analysis found an increase in the degree of mobility in the areas that use integrated passenger transport compared to the non-integrated one. This research of the literature review has identified the rural areas of mobility as under-researched. The mobility research can set up a more efficient passenger transport planning system in rural areas

From the regional development point of view new investments are always of great importance as they are mainly expected to boost the regional economy and thus improve the living standard of inhabitants. Also for the literature purposes a new case study on the impact of investments on regional development can be perceived as an added value to the state of the art and thus worthy to be explored. In this research the impact is measured in the following aspects: social, economic, innovation, and environmental, which stand also for the main assessment criteria. Just recently, an opportunity has appeared to explore this subject on the Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway (PMR), which started its operations on 1st September 2015, after five years of construction works and more than a 100-year long history. Thus, the paper presents the impact results of PMR on the development of the Pomeranian region, in the form of qualitative as well as quantitative assessments in the four aspects and on different levels of detail. The final conclusion states that the impact of PMR on the regional development has appeared to be negative in 33% and positive in 67%.</p

    Get PDF
A variety of methodologies are being used across Europe for the estimation of railway infrastructure capacity. This paper introduces the basic principles of the methodologies used ā€“ analytical methodology (e.g. Slovak railways), UIC methodology, and the graphically developed methodology of the Department of Railway Transport, University of Žilina (KŽD). On the basis of these new approaches, the occupation time estimation is researched. This new method is based on a graphic approach that uses operational time intervals as part of occupation time in accordance with the Slovak methodology. The new methodology concerns graphic capacity estimation and is a conceptual framework developed by the authors for easier evaluation of occupation time in train traffic diagrams

Transport policy guidelines for the entire transport sector, as well as the part of transport policy which serves for the adoption of legal regulations for the railway transport sector, represent a desire for sustainable and environmentally-conscious transport system on the one hand, and a direct influence on the organization of the railway system in the area of the European Union on the other hand. Railway freight is completely liberalized in the area of the member countries of the European Union. Maritime transport is transporting passengers en masse, and the second mode of transport, which can be its competition, is railway transport. The stock company Kutinska Petrokemija d.d. uses both modes of transport for the transport of its goods. At Å ibenik port terminals, exchange of goods between these two modes of transport is carried out. The paper will show port terminals and points of loading and unloading in Petrokemija. Rail transport service is carried out by HŽ Cargo d.o.o., a leading transport company in the Republic of Croatia. Specific calculations and amounts of carriage charges for railway services can be found in the paper for the train operating on the Å ibenik Luka ā€“ Kutina route and back
