Hamiltonians, groups, graphs and ans\"atze
One promising application of near-term quantum devices is to prepare trial
wavefunctions using short circuits for solving different problems via
variational algorithms. For this purpose, we introduce a new circuit design
that combines graph-based diagonalization circuits with arbitrary single-qubit
rotation gates to get Hamiltonian-based graph states ans\"atze (H-GSA). We test
the accuracy of the proposed ansatz in estimating ground state energies of
various molecules of size up to 12-qubits. Additionally, we compare the gate
count and parameter number complexity of the proposed ansatz against previously
proposed schemes and find an order magnitude reduction in gate count complexity
with slight increase in the number of parameters. Our work represents a
significant step towards constructing compact quantum circuits with good
trainability and convergence properties and applications in solving chemistry
and physics problems
PREDICTION OF ACTIVITY SPECTRA OF SUBSTANCES ASSISTED PREDICTION OF BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY SPECTRA OF POTENTIAL ANTI-ALZHEIMER'S PHYTOCONSTITUENTS
Objective: To predict the biological activity of certain phytoconstituents for their anti-AD effects.Methods: Several phytoconstituents were selected on the basis of reported literature. The anti-AD activities of selected phytoconstituents were predicted by employing canonical simplified molecular-input line-entry system obtained from PubChem using PASS online.Results: Several phytoconstituents were predicted to have effects better than marketed drugs under some or the other out of the chosen six areas of pharmacological intervention. On the other hand, several new avenues were predicted in which the in vitro and in vivo evaluation of the phytoconstituents can be made on the basis of PASS predicted activities.Conclusion: PASS is an important tool for virtually screening the compounds of interest for the biological activities of interest. This helps the researchers to streamline the research. However, PASS has its own share of limitations amidst a multitude of merits
A Feasible Approach for Automatically Differentiable Unitary Coupled-Cluster on Quantum Computers
We develop computationally affordable and encoding independent gradient
evaluation procedures for unitary coupled-cluster type operators, applicable on
quantum computers. We show that, within our framework, the gradient of an
expectation value with respect to a parameterized n-fold fermionic excitation
can be evaluated by four expectation values of similar form and size, whereas
most standard approaches based on the direct application of the
parameter-shift-rule come with an associated cost of O(2^(2n)) expectation
values. For real wavefunctions, this cost can be further reduced to two
expectation values. Our strategies are implemented within the open-source
package tequila and allow blackboard style construction of differentiable
objective functions. We illustrate initial applications for electronic ground
and excited states
Closed atraumatic flexor hallucis longus tendon rupture following hallux valgus correction repaired using a turn down flap
A case report of closed atraumatic rupture of flexor hallucis longus (FHL) tendon few months after hallux valgus correction in a high functioning individual is presented. There have been only two cases of FHL tendon rupture reported following hallux valgus correction in literature till now. Our patient underwent Hallux valgus corrective osteotomy, 4 months after which he presented with rupture of the FHL tendon, he subsequently underwent successful surgical turn down flap repair with good clinical outcome. Closed atraumatic rupture of FHL tendon as an isolated injury is a rare event evidenced by systematic review reporting only 10 cases in literature till now. Low clinical suspicion of FHL rupture in closed foot injuries could be one factor resulting in fewer cases being reported in literature. Acute rupture of FHL tendon following open foot injuries and partial closed rupture due to tendinitis in dancers have been reported frequently in literature. In conclusion, we emphasize careful handling of FHL tendon while performing corrective osteotomy of the hallux in any patient. Although, turn down flap is a well-documented technique to bridge gaps and repair chronic tendo-achilles rupture, we were able to replicate the same technique in our patient and produce good functional result using this effective tendon repair technique to bridge segmental gap as evidence by return of almost normal power of great toe plantar flexion

Streaming Video QoE Modeling and Prediction: A Long Short-Term Memory Approach
HTTP based adaptive video streaming has become a popular choice of streaming
due to the reliable transmission and the flexibility offered to adapt to
varying network conditions. However, due to rate adaptation in adaptive
streaming, the quality of the videos at the client keeps varying with time
depending on the end-to-end network conditions. Further, varying network
conditions can lead to the video client running out of playback content
resulting in rebuffering events. These factors affect the user satisfaction and
cause degradation of the user quality of experience (QoE). It is important to
quantify the perceptual QoE of the streaming video users and monitor the same
in a continuous manner so that the QoE degradation can be minimized. However,
the continuous evaluation of QoE is challenging as it is determined by complex
dynamic interactions among the QoE influencing factors. Towards this end, we
present LSTM-QoE, a recurrent neural network based QoE prediction model using a
Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network. The LSTM-QoE is a network of cascaded
LSTM blocks to capture the nonlinearities and the complex temporal dependencies
involved in the time varying QoE. Based on an evaluation over several publicly
available continuous QoE databases, we demonstrate that the LSTM-QoE has the
capability to model the QoE dynamics effectively. We compare the proposed model
with the state-of-the-art QoE prediction models and show that it provides
superior performance across these databases. Further, we discuss the state
space perspective for the LSTM-QoE and show the efficacy of the state space
modeling approaches for QoE prediction
Impact of transition in socio-economic status on sonographically detected non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: a study based on modified Kuppuswamy classification in an urban population
Background: The transition in the socioeconomic status is associated with physical and mental challenges. The lifestyle modification is one of the key implicatory for this change. Non-alcoholic fatty liver is an ever-growing health concern. This study evaluates the socioeconomic categories based on Kuppuswamy classification and other correlated in sonographically detected Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 300 sonographically detected NAFLD patients in the age group of 18-60 years. Detailed history, including the demographic profile, socio-economic status (Modified Kuppuswamy scale was followed for calculating the Socio-economic status of the family), occupation, dietary habits (vegetarian or non-vegetarian, exposure to junk food), drinking water supply, etc. Detailed assessment of the morphological parameters including the anthropometric measurements, height, BMI was also assessed.Results: The study finds 62 (41%) females and 88 (59%) males with NAFLD and 51-60 age group with maximum prevalence. Diabetes (63%), Soft drink consumption and obesity are important risk factors. New observation of our study is that amongst various Kuppuswami sociodemographic scales, the maximum patients belonging to Upper middle class and upper lower class presented with fatty liver.Conclusions: There is higher prevalence of NAFLD amongst males, diabetics, obese, soft drinks, tea and coffee consumers. Authors also find a unique correlate based on socio-demographic class of Kuppuswami scale. People belonging to upper middle class and upper lower class suffer from NAFLD more commonly than other sociodemographic classes
PREDICTION OF ANTI-PARKINSON POTENTIAL OF PHYTOCONSTITUENTS USING PREDICTION OF ACTIVITY SPECTRA OF SUBSTANCES SOFTWARE
Objective: Neurodegenerative disorders are group of diseased conditions in which there is loss of neuron cells occur. The main objective of this study to find/search out the phytochemical with the help of prediction of activity spectra of substances (PASSs), those show maximum activity over the selected targets of the Parkinson's disease (PD).Methods: PASSs is a valuable software which is used in this study, to predict the anti-Parkinson activity of different compounds. Canonical simplified molecular-input line-entry system is used for the prediction of anti-Parkinson activity which is obtained from PubChem website. The predicted activity also compared with marketed compound like levodopa.Results: From the study, it was found that resveratrol was the only compound which has the activity on all the selected targets. On the other hand, stemazole and celastrol were found to have the least active compounds as both have the activity only on a single target.Conclusion: In this research work, we tried to compile the information regarding the PASS predicted anti-Parkinson activity of some important phytoconstituents. We found that resveratrol can be a target for further investigation in the development of drug therapy for PD
