About the modern "experimental value" of W boson width.

    Get PDF
It is shown that the methods which have been used up to now to determine the WW width from the ppˉp\bar p data confirm the SM predictions for some combinations of various phenomenological parameters, however, they do not give an independent value for the WW width. Moreover, the accuracy that could be achieved in future experimental checks of SM predictions for such quantities is limited by effects which require detailed theoretical study.Comment: Latex, 8 pages

On a Renormalization Group Approach to Dimensional Crossover

A recently proposed renormalization group approach to dimensional crossover in quasi-one-dimensional quantum antiferromagnets is improved and then shown to give identical results, in some cases, to those obtained earlier.Comment: 8 pages, Rev Tex, no figure

Control of quantum fluctuations for a Yukawa interaction in the Kaluza Klein picture

We study a system of fermions interacting with a scalar field, in 4+1 dimensions where the 5th dimension is compactified, using an exact functional method, where quantum fluctuations are controlled by the amplitude of the bare fermion mass. The integration of our equationsleads to the properties of the dressed Yukawa coupling, that we study at one-loop so as to show the consistency of the approach. Beyond one loop, the non-perturbative aspect of the method gives us the possibility to derive the dynamical fermion mass. The result obtained is cut off independent and this derivation proposes an alternative to the Schwinger-Dyson approach.Comment: extended discussion on the scalar effective potentia

General pseudoadditivity of composable entropy prescribed by existence of equilibrium

The concept of composability states that entropy of the total system composed of independent subsystems is a function of entropies of the subsystems. Here, the most general pseudoadditivity rule for composable entropy is derived based only on existence of equilibrium.Comment: 12 page

Correlations and clustering in the trading of members of the London Stock Exchange

This paper analyzes correlations in patterns of trading of different members of the London Stock Exchange. The collection of strategies associated with a member institution is defined by the sequence of signs of net volume traded by that institution in hour intervals. Using several methods we show that there are significant and persistent correlations between institutions. In addition, the correlations are structured into correlated and anti-correlated groups. Clustering techniques using the correlations as a distance metric reveal a meaningful clustering structure with two groups of institutions trading in opposite directions

    Warped Phenomenology

We explore the phenomenology associated with the recently proposed localized gravity model of Randall and Sundrum where gravity propagates in a 5-dimensional non-factorizable geometry and generates the 4-dimensional weak-Planck scale hierarchy by an exponential function of the compactification radius, called a warp factor. The Kaluza-Klein tower of gravitons which emerge in this scenario have strikingly different properties than in the factorizable case with large extra dimensions. We derive the form of the graviton tower interactions with the Standard Model fields and examine their direct production in Drell-Yan and dijet events at the Tevatron and LHC as well as the KK spectrum line-shape at high-energy linear \epem colliders. In the case where the first KK excitation is observed, we outline the procedure to uniquely determine the parameters of this scenario. We also investigate the effect of KK tower exchanges in contact interaction searches. We find that present experiments can place meaningful constraints on the parameters of this model.Comment: 14 pages, LaTex, 3 fig
