Model Analysis of Time Reversal Symmetry Test in the Caltech Fe-57 Gamma-Transition Experiment
The CALTECH gamma-transition experiment testing time reversal symmetry via
the E2/M1 mulipole mixing ratio of the 122 keV gamma-line in Fe-57 has already
been performed in 1977. Extending an earlier analysis in terms of an effective
one-body potential, this experiment is now analyzed in terms of effective one
boson exchange T-odd P-even nucleon nucleon potentials. Within the model space
considered for the Fe-57 nucleus no contribution from isovector rho-type
exchange is possible. The bound on the coupling strength phi_A from effective
short range axial-vector type exchange induced by the experimental bound on
sin(eta) leads to phi_A < 10^{-2}.Comment: 5 pages, RevTex 3.

Not AvailableEnterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP) is an emerging microsporidian pathogen in shrimp aquaculture. In the present study, prevalence rate of EHP in cultured Litopenaeus vennamei from West Bengal, east coast of India, was investigated. Histology of hepatopancreas of the infected animals showed eosinophilic to basophilic inclusions in the epithelial cells with moderate necrotic tubular detachment from the basal membrane. Extracted DNA from the hepatopancreatic tissues were subjected to PCR by using two different sets of primers targeting the ssu rRNA genes. An expected PCR product of 951 and 510 bp were yielded for the EHP-positive shrimp samples. Based on the BLASTP, the sequence of ssu rRNA gene (KU179095) of the collected samples showed 100% homology with EHP ssu rRNA gene sequences submitted in NCBI from different countries viz. Vietnam, Thailand, China and India. Further, all the field samples were found to be EHP+ by using a new second-generation primer targeting the spore wall protein gene (SWP) of EHP. For detection of EHP, 119 samples from East Midnapur district, 50 samples from North 24 Parganas district and 50 Samples from South 24 Parganas district were being screened. Overall prevalence rate of EHP in the cultured L. vennamei farm in West Bengal was estimated to be 84.9%, which was highest in comparison to earlier reports in India. Our finding showed that EHP could be detected from slow growing shrimps as well as in some cases from White Faeces Syndrome-affected animals. Ethical use of new technologies: where do Indian journalists stand?
While the study of the ethical use of new technologies in journalistic work is imperative given the widespread use of such technology, such studies are few and far between, particularly for the developing world. This paper provides results of an exploratory, qualitative study of Indian journalists' views about the ethical use of new computer and Internet-based technologies for news gathering and reporting in India. New digital technology was widely accessible to the respondents, but not all journalists were given the tools by their employers. Opinions about ethical news practices using new technology were mixed and revealed a few grey areas. English language national newspapers tended to indicate that their standards were strict and that ethical violations, exacerbated by new technology, occurred mostly in vernacular newspapers. On the whole, respondents had not heard often of other organizations or individuals committing unethical practices such as plagiarism and lack of attribution using new technology. Still, some beliefs indicated uncertainty about ethical practice or breach of ethical principles. The findings of this study have implications for journalism education and on-the-job training of Indian journalists, as well as for formulating ethical codes of journalism, particularly with regard to new media. Indian codes focus more on the roles journalists should play in society and do not provide very specific tactical guidance for everyday news gathering.
