This is the 13th annual report of the Australian and New Zealand Neonatal Network and presents information on the network's 2007 annual audit of high risk neonates. All level III NICUs in Australia and New Zealand participate in the network's quality assurance measure. Of the babies admitted to an NICU in Australia and New Zealand in 2007, 8,002 fulfilled the registrationcriteria for inclusion in the ANZNN audit. The population represents 2.4% of the 356,071 live births in the two countries in 2007 illustrating a slight increase of 406 registrants (2.2% of all live births) from 2006

This is the 12th annual report of the Australian and New Zealand Neonatal Network and presents information on the network’s 2006 annual audit of high risk neonates. All level III NICUs in Australia and New Zealand participate in the networks quality assurance measure. This audit includes information on all babies born at less than 32 weeks gestation or with a birth weight of less than 1500 grams and babies who received assisted ventilation or major surgery. In 2006 there were 6,494 mothers in Australia and New Zealand who gave birth to babies who were admitted to a level III or level II nursery. Among babies born in 2006, 7,592 were admitted to a level III NICU in Australia or New Zealand and 441 were admitted to one of the fifteen participating level II nurseries in Tasmania and New Zealand. These babies made up 2.2% of the 339,271 live births in the two countries in 2006

This is the 8th annual report of the Australian and New Zealand Neonatal Network and presents information on the network's 2002 annual audit of high risk neonates. All level III NICUs in Australia and New Zealand participate in the network's quality assurance measure. In 2002, there were 7045 babies born who met the criteria for the Australian and New Zealand Neonatal Networks (ANZNN) high-risk audit and were admitted to one of the 28 level III neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) throughout Australia and New Zealand. Of these babies, 3281 were born at less than 32 completed weeks gestation (and 2803 were born weighing less than 1500 grams. Intermittent positive pressure ventilation (IPPV) and / or continuous positive airways pressure (CPAP) was given to 6309 babies and 863 had major surgery. The ANZNN level III cohort now represents 2.30% of the 305009 live births in the two countries (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2003; Statistics New Zealand, 2003)

This is the 11th annual report of the Australian and New Zealand Neonatal Network and presents information on the network's 2005 annual audit of high risk neonates. All level III NICUs in Australia and New Zealand participate in the network's quality assurance.Of the babies admitted to all NICUs in Australia and New Zealand, 7629 fulfilled registration criteria for ANZNN and represent 2.44% of the 312,545 total live births in the two countries in 2005

This is the 7th annual report of the Australian and New Zealand Neonatal Network and presents information on the network's 2001 annual audit of high risk neonates. All level III NICUs in Australia and New Zealand participate in the network's quality assurance measure. In 2001, 6805 babies were born who met the criteria for the Australian and New Zealand Neonatal Network’s (ANZNN) high-risk audit and were admitted to one of the 28 level III neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) throughout Australia and New Zealand. Of these, 3250 babies were born at less than 32 completed weeks gestation and 2791 were born weighing less than 1500 grams. Assisted ventilation (intermittent positive pressure ventilation (IPPV) and/or continuous positive airways pressure (CPAP) was given to a total of 5877 babies. There were 858 babies who received major surgery.Live births for both countries totalled 302193 in 2001 (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2002; Statistics New Zealand, 2003). This is a decrease from the 313981 babies born in 1995. The ANZNN level III cohort now represents 2.25% of all live births in the two countries

All level III NICUs in Australia and New Zealand participate in the network's quality assurance measure.Of the babies admitted to all NICUs in Australia and New Zealand, 7399 fulfilled registration criteria for ANZNN and represent 2.37% of the 312,273 total live births in the two countries in 2004

This is the first report of the Australian and New Zealand Neonatal Network and presents information on the network's 1994 audit of high risk neonates. In 1994, the cohort for data collection was all liveborn infants who were admitted to a hospital with a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and who were also born at less than or equal to 1500 grams. Twenty-two of the 29 NICUs in Australia and New Zealand contributed data in the first year, and not all units collected all variables. These data should be regarded as a pilot year, and the findings interpreted with caution. All NICUs have agreed to contribute data from 1995. Continued data collection will ensure accurate and detailed information is available for the parents and clinicians of these infants, for other health professionals and for the general community. There were 2,723 infants who met the ANZNN criteria admitted to the contributing NICUs in 1994. Of these infants, 2,447 were less than 32 weeks' gestation and 2,165 were less than or equal to 1500 grams

This is the 2nd annual report of the Australian and New Zealand Neonatal Network and presents information on the network's 1995 audit of high risk neonates. In 1995, all 29 level III Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) in Australia and New Zealand participated in and contributed data to the Australian and New Zealand Neonatal Network (ANZNN). One part of the network's function is an audit of infants admitted to NICUs who are thought to be most at risk of poor outcome. These infants include those born at less than 32 weeks' gestation, those born weighing less than 1500 grams, those who received assisted ventilation or those who have major surgery.A total of 5,771 infants who met the ANZNN criteria were born in 1995. Of these infants, 2,863 were born at less than 32 weeks' gestation and 2,543 were born weighing less than 1500 grams. A total of 4,856 infants received assisted ventilation and 775 had major surgery

This is the 3rd annual report of the Australian and New Zealand Neonatal Network and presents information on the network's 1996-1997 audit of high risk neonates. All 29 level III Neonatal Intensive Care Units in Australia and New Zealand collaborate voluntarily to form the Australian and New Zealand Neonatal Network. Their aim is to improve the care of high-risk newborn infants and their families in the region through colalborative audit and research. The network's audit of high-risk infants has involved all units since 1995.During the period 1995 to 1997, there has been little change in the rate of survival or in the length or stay in hospital for survivors. The audit's registration criteria include all liveborn babies who were admitted to a level III NICU who were born at less than 32 completed weeks' gestation; or born weighing less than 1500 grams; or received assisted ventilation for four or more consecutive hours, or received major surgery.During 1996 and 1997 12,287 infants met at least one of these criteria. In 1996 5,943 babies were born at less than 32 weeks' gestation and 5,181 were born weighing less than 1500 grams; 10,471 infants had assisted ventilation and 1,556 received major surgery
