    Not AvailableBackground: Phyllanthus amarus (PA) is a well-known herb for its medicinal properties and widely used worldwide. PA has a significant role in Indian Ayurveda system of medicine for treating various ailments such as gonorrhea, menorrhagia, and other genital infections. Objectives: The aim of the study is to investigate antileptospiral activity and isolate the potential antileptospiral constituents of the methanol extract of PA (MPA). Materials and Methods: The primary pharmacological tests for leptospirosis were investigated by test tube dilution technique and microdilution technique. To examine the morphogenesis of experimental leptospirosis by morphologic and histological methods, albino mice were inoculated intraperitoneally with Leptospira interrogans sero group Icterohaemorrhagiae strains. Results: The activity-guided repeated fractionation for MPA through silica gel column chromatography yielded three compounds that exhibited antioxidant and in vitro, in vivo, and in silico antileptospiral activities. Based on diverse physicochemical and spectroscopic analyses (viz., 13C NMR,1 H NMR, ultraviolet [UV], IR, and mass spectroscopy), the potential constituents were elucidatedas 5-(3-(3,4-dimethoxybenzyl)-4-methoxy-2-(methoxymethyl)butyl)- 4,7-dimethoxybenzo[d][1,3]dioxole(C1),1-(3-(3,4-dimethoxybenzyl)-4- methoxy-2-(methoxymethyl)butyl)-2,3,4,5tetramethoxybenzene(C2), and 4-(3 (3,4dimethoxybenzyl)-4-methoxy-2-(methoxymethyl)butyl)-3,6- dimethoxybenzene-1,2-diol (C3). The histopathological examinations of both kidney and liver showed promising activity with C3 at 75 and 100 µg/mL, respectively. Conclusion: The in vitro, in vivo, and in silico studies revealed that benzo methoxy class of compounds has great potential as antileptospiral agents.Not Availabl

    Not AvailableThe present work describes a facile and convenient procedure for synthesizing zinc oxide nanoparticles using luteolin isolated from Eclipta alba plant (L-ZnONPs) at room temperature. The formation of as-grown L ZnONPs was confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), and selected area electron diffraction (SAED). The Wurtzite structure of ZnO was observed by its hexagonal phases in diffraction patterns. The SEM images revealed the different sizes and morphologies of L-ZnONPs, with diameters between 12 and 25 nm. The HR-TEM result showed that the inter-planar distance between two lattice fringes was 0.262 nm, which coincides with the d-spacing of (002) and (101) lattice planes of the as obtained material. The anticancer activity of L-ZnONPs against the breast cancer cell line MCF-7 was greater as compared to that of luteolin or ZnO alone. The mechanistic evaluation of such an activity carried out using in silico methods suggested that the anti-breast cancer activity of L-ZnONPs was mediated by polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) proteins.Not Availabl

    Not AvailableIntroduction: Nosocomial infections are a notorious subset of infectious diseases, varying between 10% and 20% prevalence worldwide. The infections are concomitant with various treatment complications, multiple-drug resistance, and a high degree of virulence. Klebsiella pneumoniae is a gram-negative bacteria of nosocomial importance. Objectives: Our current study is gauged to reason and understand why, despite treatment with cutting-edge medicines and technology, the K. pneumoniae remains elusive. Methods: Using various in silico tools, the KPHS_00890 hypothetical protein of K. pneumoniae subsp. pneumoniae HS11286 was identified and annotated. Results: A thorough investigation revealed that KPHS_00890 hypothetical protein is a bifunctional 5′-nucleotidase, an enzyme catalyzing the degradation of nucleotides to nucleosides. Conclusions: Scrutiny and review of the 5′-nucleotidase function across various species ascertained its pertinent role in immune evasion, by suppressing inflammatory responses. Thus, having identified the KPHS_00890 hypothetical protein of K. pneumoniae subsp. pneumoniae HS11286 as a 5′-nucleotidase, we propose that it may be involved in an immune evasion strategy during infection pathogenesis.Not Availabl

    Not AvailableThe Indian poultry industry is one of the fast-growing sectors of which duck farming plays an important role. Duck population in India is 33.51 million that is concentrated towards north-east and southern parts of the country who rears mainly for eggs and meat. Duck diseases are of great concern as they badly affect the financial status of the small, landless farmers. Databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, J gate were used to search articles between 2000 and 2019 that showed the prevalence of viral, bacterial, and parasitic duck diseases. R open source software was used to derive forest plots by statistical analysis. Pooled prevalence estimates of duck diseases worldwide was found to be 20% (95%-CI:15–26). Also, continent-wise analysis of all duck diseases has revealed highest prevalence in North America, followed by Asia, Africa, Europe,Oceania and South America.
