On the Efficacy of Live DDoS Detection with Hadoop

Distributed Denial of Service flooding attacks are one of the biggest challenges to the availability of online services today. These DDoS attacks overwhelm the victim with huge volume of traffic and render it incapable of performing normal communication or crashes it completely. If there are delays in detecting the flooding attacks, nothing much can be done except to manually disconnect the victim and fix the problem. With the rapid increase of DDoS volume and frequency, the current DDoS detection technologies are challenged to deal with huge attack volume in reasonable and affordable response time. In this paper, we propose HADEC, a Hadoop based Live DDoS Detection framework to tackle efficient analysis of flooding attacks by harnessing MapReduce and HDFS. We implemented a counter-based DDoS detection algorithm for four major flooding attacks (TCP-SYN, HTTP GET, UDP and ICMP) in MapReduce, consisting of map and reduce functions. We deployed a testbed to evaluate the performance of HADEC framework for live DDoS detection. Based on the experiments we showed that HADEC is capable of processing and detecting DDoS attacks in affordable time

High-Level Concepts for Affective Understanding of Images

This paper aims to bridge the affective gap between image content and the emotional response of the viewer it elicits by using High-Level Concepts (HLCs). In contrast to previous work that relied solely on low-level features or used convolutional neural network (CNN) as a black-box, we use HLCs generated by pretrained CNNs in an explicit way to investigate the relations/associations between these HLCs and a (small) set of Ekman's emotional classes. As a proof-of-concept, we first propose a linear admixture model for modeling these relations, and the resulting computational framework allows us to determine the associations between each emotion class and certain HLCs (objects and places). This linear model is further extended to a nonlinear model using support vector regression (SVR) that aims to predict the viewer's emotional response using both low-level image features and HLCs extracted from images. These class-specific regressors are then assembled into a regressor ensemble that provide a flexible and effective predictor for predicting viewer's emotional responses from images. Experimental results have demonstrated that our results are comparable to existing methods, with a clear view of the association between HLCs and emotional classes that is ostensibly missing in most existing work

Purpose: Living  standard  in  low  income  developing  countries  always  remain  crucial  issue to  be addressed.   In many developing countries, like Pakistan, microfinance has been used as a tool to gear up the living standard of poor people. The main aim of this  study  is  to  analyze  the contribution of microfinance  in raising  the  living standard of  low  income people and poverty reduction. This paper is about reducing the poverty level through micro financing. Design/methodology/approach: The researcher developed a questionnaire to examine the impact of microfinance for the development of poor people in Pakistan. In this study Content analysis is used to investigate the impact of micro finance on poverty reduction. Findings: The micro finance has the positive impact on poverty reduction and increase income level, education and develops the living standard of poor. The loan size will have the positive or negative effect on the people. There are many issues which are faces by the people for getting loan from financial institutions. Research limitations/implications: This research focuses upon a relatively small sample of poor people in the Pakistan. Although the results could be relevant to poor people in other developing countries, caution should be exercised when attempting to generalize these finding to other contexts. Originality/value: The analysis shows that the micro finance is important for poverty reduction. In Pakistan being a nation, approximate 70 percent of people live in rural areas and micro finance for rural being a powerful, and the only, tool for rural people in providing a means of livelihood, its importance and potential should be known to each individual. Revitalisasi Gerakan Pembaruan Persatuan Persis (Persis)

This article describes the work of Persatuan Islam (Persis) as an Islamic organization that was born in 1923 in Bandung. Exactly, like Muhammadiyah, is a reformer group in which it has a distinctive religious outlook, founding figures, and strategies to develop organizational symbols. However, unlike Muhammadiyah, including Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), which is growing rapidly, Persis is experiencing delays, running slowly. This can be observed through at least three roles: political movements, cultural da'wah, and educational institutions. In this qualitative research based on library research, it is necessary to revitalize. It is necessary to evaluate and reflect on their work so far, starting with religious doctrine, distribution of cadres in the socio-political field, and the development of educational institutions.  Keyword: Persistence, Renewal, Movement Revitalizatio
