    Anaemia among school children aged 6-11 years old in Gaza Strip, Palestine

    The objective of the study was to determine the prevalence of anaemia among children aged 6-11 old years due to causes other than parasitic infections. The present study was a cross-sectional study that included 1446 school children of both sexes, distributed in three localities (Khanyounis, Gaza and Beit-lahia) of Gaza strip. The cut-off point for anaemia was determined according to the mean of haemoglobin for all studied school age children, which was (12 g/dl) in accordance to WHO criteria. The observed mean level of Hb was 12 g/dl; standard deviation was 0.915 while the normal value is ranged between 8.9-15.2. Anaemia was found slightly higher in girls (36.3%) than boys (34%). The results showed that anaemia constitute a health problem in Gaza with a prevalence of 35.3%. No variation in the prevalence of anaemia among the three studies areas. It is concluded that anaemia still constitutes a health problem among schoolchildren with a present prevalence among school–age children of 35.3%. It is expected that the prevalence of anaemia may be higher than that reported by this study due to Israeli siege to Gaza Strip

    The current study problem can be described in the form of the following question and the following sub-questions as follows: What is the effect of continuous training in Mayoklobin muscle and on some of the special fitness elements and basic skills of badminton players? The following questions stem from this question:1. myoglobin level in muscles?2. What is the level of some fitness elements for badminton players?3. What is the basic skills level of badminton players?. The current research aims to prepare continuous training exercises for the research sample, to identify the effect of continuous training method in the level of muscle myoglobin in the development of certain elements of special fitness and basic skills of badminton players. Methodology: The researchers used the experimental approach in designing the one group with the tribal and remote tests. The research sample consisted of badminton players in the youth club of the At huri Club. The team consisted of (12) players, (2) player for the exploratory experiment, Explosive force (two men) Agility, Flexibility Technical tests Massive strike, front impact, rear strike.1. The researcher’s concluded.2. The results showed that the level of myoglobin in the muscles within the normal limits when using the method of continuous training of badminton players.3. Exercise according to the continuous training method has led to the development of some special fitness elements and basic skills of badminton players. The research population :( badminton young players group (Arminian club). For age group (16-18) years the sample is divided in to two experimental groups within each group (6) players, and two for the exploratory experiment which was within the research sample, they were divided in to two groups, the first group take some of the dietary supplements (multivitamin creating) .the set exercises by the researchers in the main part of the training unit and the second group (amino acids, vitamins) and the set exercises by the researcher. The scientific approach :( the experimental approach to design the two groups of the pre and posttests). The measurement instruments: physical tests for the explosive power and the power characteristic by speed for the two arms and the legs, besides, the smash shot), after applying the pre-tests, and applying the muscular ability, then applying the exercises for two months set by the researcher. The statistical processing :( the mean was used and the standard deviation and torsion for the one sample, and (t ) test for two independent samples).The research results: ( using the exercises and some of the dietary supplements have positive effect on improving some of the physical abilities, speed and accuracy of smash shot skill for badminton young players).The researcher recommends: (depending exercises accompanying with the dietary supplements for badminton young players of age group(16-18) years by the trainers and using dietary supplements with training and contests to retain the player's energy

In the crystal, the H3O+ ions and the [P6O18]6− anions are linked by O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, generating infinite layers lying parallel to the ab plane at z = 1/2. These layers are inter­connected by the organic cations, which establish N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds with the [P6O18]6− anions

    Chemical Composition and Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Activities of Wormwood ( Artemisia absinthium

    The aim of this study was to determine the chemical variability of wormwood extracts as affected by the growing region. Antioxidant and antimicrobial activities were also investigated. The essential oil composition variability of A. absinthium L. aerial parts collected from four different Tunisian regions was assessed by gas chromatography (GC/FID) and by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC/MS). In addition, total polyphenols, flavonoids, and condensed tannins as well as antioxidant, antibacterial, and antifungal activities of methanolic extract and essential oils were undertaken. Chromatographic analysis of wormwood essential oils showed the predominance of monoterpene hydrocarbons represented mainly by chamazulene. RP-HPLC analysis of wormwood methanolic extract revealed the predominance of phenolic acids. Antiradical activity was region-dependant and the methanolic extract of Bou Salem region has the strongest activity (CI50=9.38±0.82 µg/mL). Concerning the reducing power, the methanolic extract of Bou Salem, Jérissa, and Boukornine regions was more active than the positive control. Obtained results of antimicrobial activities showed that wormwood essential oil is endowed with important antibacterial activity which was strongly related to the organoleptic quality of oil which appeared strongly region-dependant. A. absinthium L. EOs investigated are quite interesting from a pharmaceutical standpoint because of their biological activities

    Regenerative memory in time-delayed neuromorphic photonic resonators

    We investigate a photonic regenerative memory based upon a neuromorphic oscillator with a delayed self-feedback (autaptic) connection. We disclose the existence of a unique temporal response characteristic of localized structures enabling an ideal support for bits in an optical buffer memory for storage and reshaping of data information. We link our experimental implementation, based upon a nanoscale nonlinear resonant tunneling diode driving a laser, to the paradigm of neuronal activity, the FitzHugh-Nagumo model with delayed feedback. This proof-of-concept photonic regenerative memory might constitute a building block for a new class of neuron-inspired photonic memories that can handle high bit-rate optical signals

    Serum Islet Cell Autoantibodies During Interferon α Treatment in Patients With HCV-Genotype 4 Chronic Hepatitis

    Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a leading cause of end-stage liver disease worldwide and HCV genotype 4 (HCV4) is predominant in African and Middle Eastern countries. It is well established that interferon-α (IFNa) treatment for HCV may trigger serum autoantibodies against pancreatic islet cells (ICA) in a subgroup of patients. Available data on the incidence of ICA during IFNa therapy for chronic HCV4 infection are not conclusive. We investigated the appearance of ICA in 40 naïve Egyptian patients (38 males, 32 ± 6 years) with histologically defined chronic HCV4 infection undergoing IFNa treatment at a dose of 9-million U/week for 24 weeks. Serum samples were collected at baseline and following IFNa therapy and ICA were detected using indirect immunofluorescence. Baseline evaluation indicated that 2/40 (5%) patients had detectable serum ICA. After the completion of the treatment scheme, 12/38 (32%) previously ICA negative patients became ICA positive; however, no patient developed impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) or diabetes during follow-up. In conclusion, we submit that IFNa treatment for chronic hepatitis C (CHC) may induce serum ICA in one-third of Egyptian patients with HCV4. These autoantibodies, however, do not lead to alterations in glucose metabolism
