    Measurement of the B0-anti-B0-Oscillation Frequency with Inclusive Dilepton Events

    Get PDF
    The B0B^0-Bˉ0\bar B^0 oscillation frequency has been measured with a sample of 23 million \B\bar B pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC. In this sample, we select events in which both B mesons decay semileptonically and use the charge of the leptons to identify the flavor of each B meson. A simultaneous fit to the decay time difference distributions for opposite- and same-sign dilepton events gives Δmd=0.493±0.012(stat)±0.009(syst)\Delta m_d = 0.493 \pm 0.012{(stat)}\pm 0.009{(syst)} ps−1^{-1}.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure, submitted to Physical Review Letter

    Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a capacidade do caulim de afetar a oviposição e a alimentação de Alabama argillacea (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) em algodoeiro. Determinou-se a preferĂȘncia de oviposição, a viabilidade de ovos e o consumo das lagartas de primeiro instar de A. argillacea, em folhas de algodĂŁo tratadas ou nĂŁo com caulim. A preferĂȘncia de oviposição foi determinada por teste de escolha e confinamento, em delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso, em arranjo fatorial 2x7, representado pelos tratamentos com caulim em ĂĄgua destilada (60 g L-1) ou somente ĂĄgua destilada (testemunha), e pela avaliação de sete estruturas vegetais da planta. O consumo pelas lagartas de primeiro instar foi determinado em delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, em arranjo fatorial 2x4, representado pelo tratamento com caulim em ĂĄgua destilada, pela testemunha e pelos quatro perĂodos de observação (6, 12, 24 e 48 horas). A oviposição das mariposas do curuquerĂȘ-do-algodoeiro foi reduzida nas plantas de algodĂŁo tratadas com caulim; no entanto, a viabilidade dos ovos nĂŁo foi afetada. A folha da haste foi a estrutura preferida para oviposição. A sobrevivĂȘncia e o consumo de lagartas de primeiro instar do curuquerĂȘ sĂŁo menores nas plantas de algodĂŁo tratadas com caulim

    Measurement of the CP-Violating Asymmetry Amplitude sin2ÎČ\beta

    We present results on time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in neutral B decays to several CP eigenstates. The measurements use a data sample of about 88 million Y(4S) --> B Bbar decays collected between 1999 and 2002 with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. We study events in which one neutral B meson is fully reconstructed in a final state containing a charmonium meson and the other B meson is determined to be either a B0 or B0bar from its decay products. The amplitude of the CP-violating asymmetry, which in the Standard Model is proportional to sin2beta, is derived from the decay-time distributions in such events. We measure sin2beta = 0.741 +/- 0.067 (stat) +/- 0.033 (syst) and |lambda| = 0.948 +/- 0.051 (stat) +/- 0.017 (syst). The magnitude of lambda is consistent with unity, in agreement with the Standard Model expectation of no direct CP violation in these modes

    A search for the decay B+→K+ΜΜˉB^+ \to K^+ \nu \bar{\nu}

    We search for the rare flavor-changing neutral-current decay B+→K+ΜΜˉB^+ \to K^+ \nu \bar{\nu} in a data sample of 82 fb−1^{-1} collected with the {\sl BABAR} detector at the PEP-II B-factory. Signal events are selected by examining the properties of the system recoiling against either a reconstructed hadronic or semileptonic charged-B decay. Using these two independent samples we obtain a combined limit of B(B+→K+ΜΜˉ)<5.2×10−5{\mathcal B}(B^+ \to K^+ \nu \bar{\nu})<5.2 \times 10^{-5} at the 90% confidence level. In addition, by selecting for pions rather than kaons, we obtain a limit of B(B+→π+ΜΜˉ)<1.0×10−4{\mathcal B}(B^+ \to \pi^+ \nu \bar{\nu})<1.0 \times 10^{-4} using only the hadronic B reconstruction method.Comment: 7 pages, 8 postscript figures, submitted to Phys. High-reflectivity broadband distributed Bragg reflector lattice matched to ZnTe

    Full text link
    We report on the realization of a high quality distributed Bragg reflector with both high and low refractive index layers lattice matched to ZnTe. Our structure is grown by molecular beam epitaxy and is based on binary compounds only. The high refractive index layer is made of ZnTe, while the low index material is made of a short period triple superlattice containing MgSe, MgTe, and ZnTe. The high refractive index step of Delta_n=0.5 in the structure results in a broad stopband and the reflectivity coefficient exceeding 99% for only 15 Bragg pairs.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

    The performance of the jet trigger for the ATLAS detector during 2011 data taking

    Get PDF
    The performance of the jet trigger for the ATLAS detector at the LHC during the 2011 data taking period is described. During 2011 the LHC provided proton–proton collisions with a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV and heavy ion collisions with a 2.76 TeV per nucleon–nucleon collision energy. The ATLAS trigger is a three level system designed to reduce the rate of events from the 40 MHz nominal maximum bunch crossing rate to the approximate 400 Hz which can be written to offline storage. The ATLAS jet trigger is the primary means for the online selection of events containing jets. Events are accepted by the trigger if they contain one or more jets above some transverse energy threshold. During 2011 data taking the jet trigger was fully efficient for jets with transverse energy above 25 GeV for triggers seeded randomly at Level 1. For triggers which require a jet to be identified at each of the three trigger levels, full efficiency is reached for offline jets with transverse energy above 60 GeV. Jets reconstructed in the final trigger level and corresponding to offline jets with transverse energy greater than 60 GeV, are reconstructed with a resolution in transverse energy with respect to offline jets, of better than 4 % in the central region and better than 2.5 % in the forward direction

    EuFe2_2As2_2 under high pressure: an antiferromagnetic bulk superconductor

    We report the ac magnetic susceptibility χac\chi_{ac} and resistivity ρ\rho measurements of EuFe2_2As2_2 under high pressure PP. By observing nearly 100% superconducting shielding and zero resistivity at PP = 28 kbar, we establish that PP-induced superconductivity occurs at Tc∌T_c \sim~30 K in EuFe2_2As2_2. ρ\rho shows an anomalous nearly linear temperature dependence from room temperature down to TcT_c at the same PP. χac\chi_{ac} indicates that an antiferromagnetic order of Eu2+^{2+} moments with TN∌T_N \sim~20 K persists in the superconducting phase. The temperature dependence of the upper critical field is also determined.Comment: To appear in J. Phys. Soc. Jpn., Vol. 78 No.

    Measurement of the View the tt production cross-section using eÎŒ events with b-tagged jets in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    Get PDF
    This paper describes a measurement of the inclusive top quark pair production cross-section (σttÂŻ) with a data sample of 3.2 fb−1 of proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 13 TeV, collected in 2015 by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. This measurement uses events with an opposite-charge electron–muon pair in the final state. Jets containing b-quarks are tagged using an algorithm based on track impact parameters and reconstructed secondary vertices. The numbers of events with exactly one and exactly two b-tagged jets are counted and used to determine simultaneously σttÂŻ and the efficiency to reconstruct and b-tag a jet from a top quark decay, thereby minimising the associated systematic uncertainties. The cross-section is measured to be: σttÂŻ = 818 ± 8 (stat) ± 27 (syst) ± 19 (lumi) ± 12 (beam) pb, where the four uncertainties arise from data statistics, experimental and theoretical systematic effects, the integrated luminosity and the LHC beam energy, giving a total relative uncertainty of 4.4%. The result is consistent with theoretical QCD calculations at next-to-next-to-leading order. A fiducial measurement corresponding to the experimental acceptance of the leptons is also presented
